Growing Agricultural Education for Future Generations
Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County
is proud to dedicate the 2018 Annual Report
to Tito Sasaki, a Sonoma Valley grape grower,
scientist and businessman, past president of
Sonoma County Farm Bureau and the Farm
Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County.
Over the last century, Farm Bureau
has had dozens of strong leaders. However,
few have devoted the time and energy that Tito
Sasaki has given. During his involvement with the
Sonoma County Farm Bureau, Tito represented
members at hundreds of meetings. He traveled
thousands of miles in his olive-green Jeep to
be the voice of common sense on issues like water and land use. He focused on key
points, formulated resolutions and relentlessly fought to implement them. We have all
benefitted from his educated perspective and tireless efforts.
He is a one-of-a-kind leader who is passionate about securing agriculture’s
future in Sonoma County. His keen intelligence, analytical skills and bulls-eye business
acumen have been put to work daily to defend the rights and livelihoods of farmers
and landowners in Sonoma and Marin counties and beyond. His efforts, undoubtedly,
helped to ensure a bright future for the next generation of farmers and ranchers.
Sasaki was born in Tokyo, Japan, the son of a lawyer. Tito’s educational
background is fascinating and explains his passion for the promotion of education in
future generations. Following six years of high school at a seminary run by German
Jesuits, he studied mechanical engineering at a national university in Japan. He then
earned a degree in industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London followed by
an advanced degree in Ekistics from the Athens Technological Institute in Greece. He
did post graduate studies at the Institute of Traffic and Transportation Engineering at
U.C. Berkeley and oceanography at the Scripps Institute at UC San Diego.
Sasaki’s passion for education, support of scholarships and commitment to
the future of agriculture is evident. He helped to increase the value of scholarships
awarded from several thousand dollars a year to now, over $167,000 awarded
annually to Sonoma County students pursuing higher education.
Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County is pleased to honor a man who
has truly made a difference in the lives of Sonoma County youth.

Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County awarded $167,750 in scholarships and another
$37,000 for the Children of Vineyard Workers scholarship fund, which the Foundation is privileged
to administer for Wilson Family of Wineries. All donations made to the Foundation are tax deductible
and are used to preserve Sonoma County’s rich agricultural heritage through education and outreach
in urban and rural communities. In total, contributions to the Foundation totaled $178,350 in 17/18.
Donations ranging from $25 to $15,000 were given when renewing Farm Bureau memberships, in
memorial of past leaders and at Farm Bureau events. More than $87,000 in donations were pledged
at the Great Sonoma Crab and Wine Fest. The largest percentage of donations over the last year
was distributed through agriculture scholarships. The Foundation awarded 41 of Sonoma and Marin
County’s top students majoring in agricultural business, culinary, dairy science, viticulture, veterinary
medicine and plant genetics with scholarships. The Foundation is diligent in keeping overhead
expenses to a minimum, so that maximum resources are used to build agricultural awareness and
foster a positive public perception about agriculture in Sonoma County.
