WHAT YOU NEED:• 3 grapefruits• 2 tbls brown sugar (approx)

WHAT TO DO:• Set the oven to grill and

place a rack in the middle shelf.

• Cut grapefruits evenly in half, slice 2-3mm off each base to allow grapefruits to rest flat without rolling.

• If using a grapefruit knife, carefully cut along the rim of the flesh before cutting into 4 or 8 segments.

• Place grapefruits on a baking sheets, flesh side up,and sprinkle each

half with approximately 1 tsp of brown sugar to taste.

• Grill for about 10-15 minutes until flecked and speckled.Serve plain or with yoghurt.

GRILLED GRAPE FRUITSI started serving these zesty and yet slightly warming delicacies on cooler spring retreat mornings. There is something intrinsically cheerful about the smell of grapefruits that make them a welcome addition to a breakfast spread. Select ruby grapefruits for their vibrant colour and richer antioxidant content and use a grapefruit knife to cut into segments before grilling for easier eating. The sprinkle of brown sugar will melt into the grapefruit as it caramelizes, softening the bitterness and giving the surface a perfectly radiant glow. A joyous and juicy way to begin the day.

This little printer lets users choose any color on the web, or in the real world, and using simple already-existing software, print that color into a blush, eye shadow, lip gloss or any other type of makeup.

See, most makeup comes from the same basic substrates, from high-end labels like Chanel all the way down to the cheap stuff available at drug stores. Founder Grace Choi sources the same substrate for the Mink so that users can turn any image into any kind of makeup.

The idea here is that consumers are increasingly focused on instant gratification and DIY solutions. Choi also noticed that makeup consumers aren’t always loyal to certain brands, but rather focused on convenience. With Mink, users can satisfy the desire for instant gratification while still having access to any color in the world at an affordable price.

Simply choose a color on a website, Pinterest board, or snap one with your phone in the real world, and use any color picker to locate the hex code of the color. Once you have the code, you can put it into any other program like Photoshop or Paint and simply press print.

The company is targeting the younger, 13-21 demographic who are less ingrained in their habits with certain brands and retailers.

Currently, the Mink is still a prototype, which is set to retail at $300 (approx. R3000) and although the prices of the ink and raw materials aren’t available yet, we totally think Grace Choi is on to something big. What would you want to print first? Your own eyeshadow? Or what about a blusher? The options are endless.

Sometimes life throws you some old tiles and then you have two options: live with it, or paint and stamp it! Save yourself a heap of cash by opting

for this very clever stamp that can be used in any number of ways.

By: Germarie Bruwer and Margaux Tait from Homeology.co.za

My kitchen had been in desperate need of a tiled splash-back because unlike most old homes, I wasn’t blessed with horrid old kitchen tiles.

1.Cut 16 mm chip board to the size you want your panel to be, minus 2.5 mm on all 4 sides. This will ensure that the tiles hang over the wood a little bit to create a nice shadow line.

2. Fix 2 mirror fixings to the back — it’s easier to do this first otherwise you risk breaking a tile or two.

3. The stamp size is 150 mm x150mm so I used some very inexpensive white tiles to the same size. Fix the tiles to the panel using a tile adhesive, leaving a 2 mm space between them.

4. Use grout to fill in the spaces and let it dry for a couple of hours.

5. Prime the tiles with a standard tile primer — there are many brands on the market — and then let it cure for 24 hours.

6. Then STAMP

7. After the pattern had dried for a couple of hours, you’ll need to seal it with a craft sealer like Harlequin Paint’s Decorator’s Varnish. It’s a clear coat that will ensure that you can wipe down the tiles when they get wet or dirty.

Me.

We are a school that chooses to focus on creating the best opportunities for learnersin academics, sport and culture. We inspireand encourage learners to pursue their dreamsand ambitions, to equip them to ultimately fulfil their roles in society as responsible contributing adults.

Academic Education. Glenwood House School is a private school which offers an excellent education from Gr 000 to Gr 12.

We are proudly associated with the Independent Examination Board which has an exceptional track record in SA. We offer our Gr 12 learners an IEB matric or exit exam—a qualification which is held in high esteem by universities both in South Africa and abroad. The IEB is one of only two accredited examination boards in SA.

The IEB advocates critical and creative thinking: “HOWto THINK and not WHAT to THINK”. It encourages pupils to be analytical, reflective and proactive - how to critically engage; not what to say. Our syllabus has been expanded to lead learners to develop critical thinking. We offer International Benchmarking Tests in Maths and English as part of our continuous evaluation of learners. The IEB forms the foundation on which our learners graduate with a qualification which truly equips them for life and the rigours of tertiary education. We have achieved a 100% pass rate for the past 7 years. Last year we achieved 89 distinctions, an average of 1.89 per matric.

Our Pre-Preparatory school, Little Glens, focuses on school readiness and development of cognitive (particularly reading and mathematics) and non-cognitive skills. Non-cognitive skills, such as attention, effort, initiative and behaviour are a very important part of our programme. At Little Glens we use sport, arts and culture to contribute to the development of learners.

All our classes are limited to 25 learners per

We offer a wide variety of sports activities and this year have added water-polo to the menu.

Arts and Culture. We believe it is important to have balance in your life and we encourage our learners to become involved in arts and culture as receptive and creative participants. It assists in cognitive development, educational attainment and stimulates creativity.

We believe that social responsibility is essential to make our world a better place for everyone.
