Date: April 27, 2015 CONTACT: Jill Harrison (405) 6012757 [email protected] Students Take Winning Art Designs to State Capitol to Tout Importance of Well Site Safety Students selected out of more than 3,000 applicants participate in Well Site Safety Day OKLAHOMA CITY, April 27, 2015 – As part of the annual “Well Site Safety Day,” the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB) has selected 21 students in grades K6 from across the state to showcase their original artwork illustrating the dangers of playing around well sites at the Capitol on April 28. The students were chosen from a total of 3,104 applicants in the OERB’s Well Site Safety Coloring Contest (K2 nd grade) and Well Site Safety Poster Contest (3 rd –6 th grade). The coloring and poster contests highlight the messages of the OERB’s “Well Sites are DuhDuh Dangerous” campaign, which educates young students about the dangers of playing on or around well sites. There were 1,937 coloring contest entries and 1,167 poster entries. “An important part of our student education program is teaching kids about well site safety,” said Mindy Stitt, executive director of the OERB. “Well Site Safety Day and the art contest are a fun way to spread awareness about the dangers associated with well sites in an effort to keep youth, from Kindergarten to high school, safe.” Well Site Safety Day will be held at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Tuesday, April 28, beginning with a meet and greet with State Legislators at 10 a.m. An awards ceremony will take place in the Blue Room at 11 a.m. OERB Executive Director Mindy Stitt will give opening remarks. At the ceremony, winners will show their winning work and receive an award. Following the ceremony, all attendees are invited to Legacy Hall in the OERB Building at 500 NE 4 th St., Suite 300, for lunch and games. Media are invited and encouraged to attend the events.
