PATPATIKALO
Nag-iisang anak si Patpatlkalo. Hindi
siya nag-aaral na gaya ng ibang bata. Mahillg
siyang manghuli ng ibon at gumagarnit siya ng
pandiklt at bltag.
Isang umaga pumunta siya sa kaingan para
manghuli ng ibon. Tlpaklong ang ginamit
niyang pain. Pagkatapos niyang ikabft ang
bltag, umuwi siya. Nagbayo at nagluto siya ng
blgas para sa tanghalian, pero wala siyang
ulam.
Pagkaalis na pagkaalls niya may
nakapasok na ibon sa bitag. Humunl ang Ibon.
Humuhuni ito habang nakabitin.

tanghaling lyon dahil inuna niyang tingnan
ang kanyang bitag. Malaplt na siya ma kaingan

PATPATIKALO
Patpatikalo is an only chlld. He does
not go to achool like other children. He
always goes to catch birds uking a sticky
substance and a bird trap.
One morning, he went to catch birds in the
kaingan. He used grasshoppers fat bait. After
setting h l s trap he went home. He pounded and
cooked rice for lunch, but he had no viand.
A l i t t l e while after he left his trap, a
bird got caught. The bird w a s chirping. I t
was chirping whlle it w a s hanging.
Patpatikalo had not eaten that noon
because flrst he would go see h f s trap. He
w a s getting close to the kalngan and he heard
the chirping of a bird. Re stopped to listen
closely and said to himself, "Maybe something
Is caught". He hurried and arrlved. He saw a
bird chirping in the trap, and I t was a
manalatal bird.
Patpatikalo quickly untied the bird from
t h e trap. He tied the birds legs and went
home taking the feathers off. It was all
defeathered when he got home. He then roasted
I t . When it w a s cooked, he ate and was full.
Patpatikalo really does know how to find
what is necessary for a living. He knows how
to work, But someday he will really be pitied
because he did not go to school.

BUTALE, THE INDUSTRIOUS
Butale is an only child. He is seven
years old. He loves h i s father and mother and
grandfather Dulnuan. He is obedlent and
helpful.
O n e morning they ate very early. Butale
knew 'that h i s father and mother w e r e going to
the rlcefield of their father Dulnuan to
harvest. The rice in Dulnuan'a field w a s ripe
and i f it was not harvested then I t would
become too ripe.
"I will ga with you to grandfather's
ricef i e l d , " said Butalc. "What wf 11 you do
there? You will only get too hot." answered
h i s father. "I will he lp , I will do what 1
can to help you, father," sald Butale. They
agreed so he went along.
Butale did not help in harvesting but he
did many things to help his father and mother
and grandfather, Pulnuan. He got water,
cooked, and carried bundles of rice. Hie
grandfather w a s very happy becaumc he saw
that h i s grandeon Is industrious. Butale was
a l so happy. Because of those good things

BUGAN'S GIFT
Bugan was a very good child. She loved
animals. One day, Bugan and her mother went
to v i s i t her Aunt Magappld. Magappfd lived
across the valley from their village. It was
the first time Bugan went to v l s i t her A u n t
Magappid. She was very excited to go.
Bugan and her mother walked through the
rlce fields. They walked slowly because Bugan
was cautious walking an the slippery dikes.
From t i m e to time, Bugan would s t o p and look
at the fish that came to the surface af the
water. She was amused to see t h e dragonflies
that w e r e flylng around. Soon they arrived at
Aunt Magappid's house. Magappid was happy at
their arrival.
"It I s goad you came. Who I s this?"
Magappid s a i d pointing t o Bugan.
"Do you remember the baby when you
visited us?" asked Bugan's mother.
"Is t h i s Bugan? You are b i g now. "
They sat down on the mortar and chewed
bettlenut. Bugan looked around and saw some
fat ducks."Mother, the ducks are beautiful."
She went over and glcked one'up. She smoothed
its feathera and t h e duck also liked it.
"Aunt Magappid, how about I f 1 get one?"
Bugan s a i d . "Do you really like it? Do you
know how to t a k e care uf it?" Aunt Magappid
said. " Y e s , I'll get this o n e , " answered
Bugan.
Aunt Magappid agreed and gave It to
Bugan as a present . Bugan w a s very happy. She
played wlth the duck until Aunt Magappid had
cooked their food. When they finished eatlng
they returned to their house. Bugan was very
happy. "It is good that Aunt Magappid 1s very kind and generous," she said to herself. They
brought many presents with them but t h e best
gift to Bugan w a s the duck.

THE MOTHER AND HER THREE CHILDREN

They took turns in carrying It home. They asked their mother what she brought
to give them. Their mother said, "Open the
basket and see what you like." The three

clothes and toys which their mother had
brought home.

CHARLES1 VACATION .
Charles was sulking as he went out of
the house. He had told his father that he
wanted t o go t o his grandparents again for a
vacation. But h l s father said that he could
not because there would be no one t o help and
be a companion to hls mother.
L a s t year the vacation at his
grandparents had been very nice because they
were always at the river. His grandfather had
taught h l m how to swim and how to catch fish
and shrlmp. A t night, he went with his
grandfather to catch frogs and crabs with a
light.
Suddenly someone tapped his shoulder. He
turned around and i t w a s Oggy. "Do you want to come with us to Bagabag? We are going to
viait and pick coffee," said Oggy. Charles
asked h i s mother and she agreed because
Bagabag was close and they could return home
at noon.
The first thing Charles saw when they
arrived at Bagabag was the river whlch was

Mal-ay w a s six years old. "Mother", said

we wlll go tomorrow, We wlll first prepare
what we will take along.'' Mal-ay said, "What
are we taking along?" Grandmother said,
"There is a hen, your present, which you will
be feeding at your house."
When they arrived home, Mal-ay w a s very
happy to show her hen. She would not let
others hold I t . She was the only one to f e e d
her hen.
One day her mother fed the hen. For that
Mal-ay cried and cried. "Why, Mal-ay?" said
her mother.
Mal-ay sald, "Why did you feed m y hen?
Grandma said I alone wlll be the one to feed

THOSE WHO WERE VERY KIND
Bangadon and Ha-hiw were very kind to
their grandchild. They carried Bugan around
on their backs every day. Every morning, when

Bugan was a pretty chlld and she was
