Low-key lighting in this shot is a common convention of horror and it is used to create suspense and tension. The minimal lighting in this shot causes us to focus on the girl and question why she is in this room which looks to be like a basement. The word “secrets” suggest that this girl is not as we predicted her to be and that she is hiding something which leaves the audience questioning what exactly she is hiding

The hand on the door suggests that someone is struggling to get free. The mist makes the shot unclear which leaves the audience in fear of what is happening. The blue lighting suggests isolation which as a result creates tension. In the shot we can see the someone in a white shirt whom looks to be male, but it is unclear as to what he is doing which as a result creates suspense

This title screen is particularly interesting as the only thing we see is the phrase “It’s in her blood.” This draws in the audience as they would want to know who “she” is and what exactly is in her. Also as we associate blood with danger as well as death, it suggests that something has taken over her if it is “in” her. In addition to this the words are not centred on screen and rather waver and float which could suggests instability

The high angle shot makes the girl look venerable and she is wearing a white dress which emphasises her innocence. In contrast she seems to have what looks to be letters in her hand with others scattered on the floor in disarray which suggests that she what she is seeing she can’t believe. Interestingly she is standing on a spiral staircase which suggests that she is possibly spiralling out of control, but as the audience we are not sure why.

To further contrast what is happening within the scene, the house looks to be a very grand and posh house which is not where we would expect this sort of behaviour.

The low angle shot of the girl and the man makes them look dangerous and the fact that it is the female who is carrying the shovel filling the grave, adds to the fear as it is common for males to be doing the labour, however women are the more submissive characters. Both characters are looking down to the camera and the dirt is coming towards us as the audience which creates terror for the audience as it feels like she’s burying us. Also the use of low key lighting makes it hard to see their faces which as a result creates suspense
