Exoskeleton

As of 2009, there were 42,000 Veterans receiving medical

care for spinal cord injuries (SCI) from the VA in this

country. These men and women volunteered to serve their

country and were severely wounded in combat. Now, we

have the opportunity to do something to give back. Something that will

allow them to stand up and walk. Something that will allow them to stand

up and give their loved ones a proper hug and kiss. Something that will

extend their lives and reduce their medical problems and expenses for

the rest of their lives.

Benefits of Using the Exoskeleton

Better bowel and bladder function. This will help reduce urinary tract

infections, a common problem for people in wheelchairs.

Physiological and psychological gains.

The ability to find their personal height again and being able to stand

and hug their loved ones gives a great emotional lift.

The increased movement of muscles.

Prevents joints from locking and growing together

Pressure sores are relieved and avoid becoming infected

Skin Breakdowns are reduced.

Digestive system shows improvements.

Please schedule a Spinal Cord Injury benefit at your Aerie and make it

a point to invite and include your local Veterans groups. Then invite

them to become members. When your event is complete, please send

the funds raised to the Grand Aerie and earmark them for “Spinal Cord

Exoskeleton Fund”. Each time enough funds are raised, we will

purchase another unit for a rehab facility where a veteran will receive

use of it. We plan to determine where the biggest needs are and equip

that area first. All units we purchase will include the FOE emblem .

Back 2 the Basics with Hondo

Brothers! Another year has come to pass and again we starting the new

adventure with a new year. I would like to congratulate Hoyt on a suc-

cessful Presidency along with the awareness he and the State Aerie

raised for Brest Cancer.

This year, our motto is Back 2 the Basics. After many discussions, we feel that we have

strayed a bit from our primary goals and our organization is founded on. We are here to raise

money for our charities. This is truly what the Fraternal Order of Eagles was created for. Not

saying that we can’t have a good time along the way but we are not just a bar or private social

club. Try to keep in mind that we are something more than that, you’re membership makes

you a part of something bigger too. Something bigger than the four walls that you call your

local club. You are a part of an International Brotherhood that gives thousands of dollars to

our charities a year. It is truly amazing.

Everyone seems to get caught up in their own little circle of friend, the rumors of the Aerie,

infighting and back biting. We all need to pull together to make our Aerie successful. Next

time a potential member or new member comes, in introduce yourself to them. That just might

make a difference in them coming back or not.

Lets see how far we can go with returning to our original concepts. Sometimes we need to

reflect on our past to make a clear path to our future. Again getting” Back 2 the Basics”.

This year’s State Aerie and Auxiliary has a combined Charity, it is the Ekso Skeleton. Our

goal is to raise $150,000.00 to help buy 2 Ekso Skeleton’s for rehabilitation of our veterans

and others that may be bound to a wheel chair in some form or another. These veterans and

others need the type of therapy this Ekso Skeleton gives. Please go to FOE.Com and see

what it is all about. If you can’t find it there, “Google” Ekso Skeleton or go look on You Tube

for the videos. We really need your help this year! We cannot do any of this without your help.

We have a challenge coins, pins, calendars and auxiliary T-shirts to sell to go towards the

charity. We also will be doing another gun raffle this year of 50 guns in one night. We will have

posters and tickets to send out to your Aerie and Auxiliary soon. So watch for them to come

out. (Cont. on page 3)

Also a shout out to Nadean for what she and the State Auxiliary did for Autism. I would like to

congratulate all of you within the jurisdiction for all the hard work and the amount of monies

raised for the 2 charities. Great job!

I would like to thank everyone for coming out to the convention to participate in the day.

It was great to see all the friends and family out in the audience which even made the day

more special.

The installation team was awesome! I would like to thank you for making the installation a

great, it will be a fond memory of mine. Yes, it is most likely one of the few times that you

find me with few words to say. It was a day of realization

It finally hit me that I finally made it, and my friends and family were there to share it with me. I

would like to thank everyone for their encouragement over the last couple of years which kept

me going forward in the process.

A couple of side notes, I ran over to the Iowa State Convention to spend some quality time

with the brothers and sisters over there. Thank you for the hospitality and the friend ship and I

wish my good friend Steve Zimmerman the best this year. You will do a great job I am sure.

And the Iowa State Past Presidents provided a wonderful lunch. Thank you gentleman.

Thank to Scott, Zack and GMS Racing for assisting us in attend the races.

This one seems a little out of left field but I need to give a couple more shout outs.

I attended the American Legion Convention June 22- 24, the outgoing Detachment of

Nebraska, Sons of the American Legion Commander, a South Omaha Aerie 154 member Karl

Frederickson gave me the opportunity to speak to the delegation about the Fraternal Order of

Eagles and the State of Nebraska Aerie and Auxiliary Charity. I was pleasant surprised at

all the interest there was in a possibility being able assist us in reaching out goals for this

charity. There was talk of poker runs (ALR’S), the possibility of assistance through Post and

Squadrons too. These members are members of other organizations which wanted to take

information back to their other organizations too. It was great to see different organization

which wanted to pull together for a great cause.

A Final congratulation to Robert “Bud” Neal, a Trustee from Wayne Aerie #3757, Bud is the

2018 -2019 Detachment of Nebraska, Sons of the American Legion Commander. Bud I am

sure you will be a great Detachment Commander this year.

Now, I was wondering how many people read this to the end.

Send me an email to let me know you did.

Fraternally Yours
