FROM THE PASTOR…
Dear Parishioners, In the rear of the church, behind the last pew, is a lectern with a book entitled Lord, Have Mercy. It offers our people an opportunity to put in writing a particular prayer of intercession. The requests range from petitions for the sick, the homebound, the suffering, the local and universal Church, the needs of the world, and all who need prayer. Our people use this resource regularly, both in English and in Spanish, and the filled volume needs to be replaced from time to time. Replacing the volume recently, I scanned the pages of the older book and noticed how heart-felt and blunt many of the petitions were. Respecting the anonymity of the authors of the entries, I thought I would list a sampling of snippets from the English intercessions here for your perusal.
- Father Jerry Jecewiz
Lord, thank you for being there when nobody else was. Please help N. and N. — they are not well. It breaks my heart.
Heavenly Father, please help me with my Spanish so I can go to my country. Holy Father, help me to get a job, with my criminal record. Thank you, Lord, for healing my son after so much pain and so many surgeries. Lord, here I am again asking help of you. Guide and strengthen me as I face financial dif-
ficulties. Lord, thank you for waking me up another week. Jesus, help all of us who suffer the pain of drug and alcohol abuse. Dear Lord, I’m back. Enlighten my mind with regard to my debts. Dear Lord, help me in dealing with emotional stress. Dearest Lord, thank you for the past year, even though it was a tough one , filled with
hardships. Dear Jesus, please help my brother start a family. Grant comfort to the parents and families of those who made the terrible choice of taking
their own lives. Almighty father, I come in humility to pray for all those who hurt me in one form or another.
Protect and guide them and keep them safe. I pray for our country. I pray for all those who do without food, shelter, friends/family. May your love keep their
spirits up. Thank you, God, for 6/15. Please help me find a better dentist.

We offer condo-lences to two parish staff members who recently lost loved ones. Sister Christine Scherer, our Director of Religious Education, just lost her sister, Barbara Dickes, shortly after Bar-bara entered home-
hospice care. Their other sister had died just about three months earlier. Jim Buckley, our weekday sacristan, just lost his sis-ter, Judy Buckley, who lived in Virginia. Jim and his family travelled to Richmond for the funeral last week. Please keep the families of Sister Christine and Jim in your prayers at this time of loss. The Bible says, ―Our hope in Jesus is not limited to this life only.‖
