From the Principal…
Dear Parents. School Hall update Last week we received a formal letter from Arch Bishop Dennis Hart notifying the school that we can now proceed with the actual construction of our new hall. In the next few weeks we should be advised by our architects of the successful building contractor that will be chosen to construct our new facility. Full details of how our Canteen and our Out of School Hours program will operate during the construction period will be communicated to all following conversations with our architects and the future chosen construction company. With Parent Association support we are planning to hold a working bee on the morning of Saturday 22nd April. At this working bee we will be carrying out general maintenance and also preparing and planning to move resources and equipment that ‘needs to happen’ before the actual demolition of the hall and portables occurs. Details of this working bee will be communicated through a flyer in the next few days. So if you are available to assist on this day please keep the morning free. Any assistance you can offer will be greatly appreciated! Staffing news Good luck to Penny Crombie who leaves our staff at the end of this week. Penny joined our staff this year and she has been working as a teacher aide in our prep classes. We thank her for all of her work in assisting to settle our preps and wish her every success as she commences her final teaching round in second term.
Confirmation
On Friday evening our year six children will be Confirmed by Bishop Terry Curtin. Please keep the children in your thoughts and prayers as they move through
their last week of preparations for their celebration this Friday evening.
Regards, Alan Sweeney Principal
WELLBEING
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence What a fantastic way to spend our day, making stars to show our support against bullying and violence last Friday. All children were enthusiastic about the process and we even have children continuing to make stars. The One Million Stars to End Violence project needs individuals, groups and communities to join in the conversation of ending violence across the world and to weave one million stars by July 2017, which will then be featured in an installation at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
Each star woven will represent our school's commitment towards a bullying and violence free environment.
The stars made will also contribute to a striking public art installation as part of Festival 2018.
2018 Secondary School Enrolment Please be aware that all students enrolling in state, catholic and independent secondary schools for year 7 2018 need to contact the secondary schools directly. We have been advised by Catholic Education Melbourne that the primary schools will no longer be making the applications. Enrolment forms for 2018 prep students wanting to attend St Oliver’s are now available from the office. Feel free to collect one for friends and family members. PLEASE BE AWARE! Four batches of life-saving anti-allergy EpiPens have been recalled because they may fail to activate or require increased force — with potentially deadly consequences. Please google link below for further information. I will let individual families know if any student epipens (kept here on site) have been affected.

LEARNING AND TEACHING
Everybody Belongs On Wednesday the entire school will take part in Harmony Day. We welcome and affirm the many nationalities and cultures that contribute to our diverse society and wonderful school community at St Oliver Plunkett. Our Harmony day activities will begin with a whole school assembly at 11:30 led by Senior G. Following the assembly the students will return to class to take part in a variety of activities. The senior students have been responsible for planning and preparing the Harmony Day activities as part of their action to their Inquiry unit “How Are We Connected to Others?’ They are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to work with the entire school and we wish them luck.
Year 5 and 6 students working in teams to investigate, plan and prepare for Harmony Day
Basketball Clinic Last week some of the Junior classes were lucky enough to participate in a basketball clinic in PE class with Mike from HOOPSMART. The children had a great time and learnt lots of skills for basketball. If you would like any further information there will be flyers in the office that you can collect. Mrs Mazzarella

LEUKAEMIA FUNDRAISER (XAVIER’S BIG HAIR CUT) Thank you to the whole school community who supported our fundraiser for term one. It was a wonderful response with the children wearing many different coloured wigs, hair styles and ribbons. Your generous support meant we raised the wonderful amount of $780.
