As you know, the Vatican has granted the gift of a Plenary Indulgence during the coronavirus pandemic. An indulgence, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is “a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven.” Indulgences are either partial or plenary depending on if they remove part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin (Paragraph 1471, CCC ) I. To whom does this current gift of the Plenary Indulgence apply? Basically this gift is extended to all of us, the baptized faithful. The faithful are discussed under four categories: (1) those sick from the coronavirus, (2) caregivers of those sick, (3) all the faithful, and (4) the faithful at the point of death. II. Under what conditions can we receive the indulgence? There are five conditions that must always be fulfilled in order to receive a Plenary Indulgence: (1) pray for the pope and his intentions; (2) receive sacramental confession, (3) receive the Eucharist, (4) the thing done, and (5) freedom from attachment to any sin. Given our limited access to the sacraments, the decree tells us that we must have the willingness to fulfill these first three conditions—pray, confess, and receive communion—which would be most clearly manifested by fulfilling them as soon as a person is able. The fourth condition—the thing to be done—is what we’ll discuss below. III. The Thing to be done by category 1. Those sick from the coronavirus If those suffering in hospital or at home from the coronavirus unite spiritually through the media to the celebration of Holy Mass, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, to the pious practice of the Way of the Cross or other forms of devotion, or if at least they will recite the Creed, the Lord's Prayer and a pious invocation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, offering this trial in a spirit of faith in God and charity towards their brothers and sisters will obtain the gift of the Plenary Indulgence. 2. Caregivers of those suffering from the coronavirus Health care workers, family members and all those who, exposing themselves to the risk of contagion, care for those sick from Coronavirus will obtain the gift of the Plenary Indulgence . 3. The baptized faithful All the faithful who offer a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, or Eucharistic adoration, or read the
Holy Scriptures for at least half an hour, or the recitation of the Holy Rosary, or the pious exercise of the Way of the Cross, or the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, for the following intentions: to implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called to Himself will obtain the same gift of the Plenary Indulgence under the same conditions. 4. The faithful at the point of death, Those faithful who find themselves unable to receive last rites or Eucharist before death, provided that they are duly disposed and have recited a few prayers during their lifetime will obtain the gift of the Plenary Indulgence. In this case the Church makes up for the first three conditions required (prayers, confess, receive). For the attainment of this indulgence the use of the crucifix or the cross is recommended.

To the members of St. Monica and St. Lucy Parishes and community who support the mission of this local conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul: We are closely watching new
developments regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19). The safety and health of our team members, clients, volunteers and customers is our priority. Our Emergency Services are crucial and we will continue to provide assistance and support clients, staff and volunteers, to the best of our ability while balancing health and safety. Please let us or the parish know if you, a family member, or neighbor need help. We provide help for people's physical, mental, and spiritual needs. By doing this with care and respect, we show our brothers and sisters that they matter and that they are children of God. If you are able, your contributions of food, money and prayers are necessary to ensure widespread and safe access to services when this community needs them most. We ask all of you to embrace the works of mercy with zeal and to practice a spirit of gratitude and generosity to others, whether it be using your time to pray, giving to our parish, or donating directly to this Conference, please know that we are committed to continuing the good work that reflects our mission and the Holy Church at this time. Thank you and May God bless you. www.facebook.com/svdpmethuen/ (978) 686-9573

Behind everything a Knight does is the vision of our founder, Venerable Fr. Michael J. McGivney, and the mission he left us as Catholic men: to live out in our own lives the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
Charity: Love for God as reflected in the care and concern for others.
Unity: People of diverse backgrounds/talents coming together as one group for a common good. Fraternity: Acting in a “caring way” providing guidance/assistance for family members and/or neighbors in
need. Patriotism: A proud devotion to God and country and a belief in standing up for both.
As a young Catholic in today's world, there are many challenges young people face. Choose any two (2) of the above
Knights of Columbus principles and fully explain their value and how they are lived out in your daily life activities.
It is important to reflect in your essay's format a clear idea, organization, word choice and mechanics. Each essay must
be a minimum of 500 words, #12 Font, 1” margins and must include an introduction, 3 paragraphs and a closing.
Please do not put your name on the actual essay. Names should only be on the Application and then the Application and the Essay should be attached.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
A fantastic way to unite ourselves to the Holy Mass during this time where we cannot receive
the Eucharist is to offer a Spiritual Communion at the usual moment of Holy Communion. Here
is a beautiful version of this prayer:
O Lord Jesus, since I am unable at this time to receive you in the
Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, I beg you to come spiritually into my heart in the spirit of your holiness, in the truth of your
goodness, in the fullness of your power, in the communion of your mysteries and in the perfection of your ways. O Lord, I
believe, I trust, I glorify you. I am sorry for all my sins. O
Sacrament most Holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
