Opportunity for a Plenary Indulgence: Stations of the Cross Did you know you can receive a plenary indulgence (full remission from all punishment due to sin) if you pray the Stations of the Cross? Join us at our parish’s Stations of the Cross Fridays of Lent at 7:00 p.m. in St. Benedict Church, or come to the Stations led by SBCS students at 2:45 p.m. in St. Benedict Church (February 28, March 5, 20, and 27, and April 2). If you can’t join us, you can always make the Stations of the Cross privately in church. To receive this indulgence, a movement from one station to the next is required. The common practice consists of fourteen pious readings to which some vocal prayers are added. However,

nothing more is required than a pious meditation on the Passion and Death of the Lord, which need not be a particu-lar consideration of the individual mysteries of the stations. If you can’t make it to church to pray the Stations, the same indulgence may be obtained by spending at least 30 minutes in pious reading and meditation on the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ. The normal requirements of receiving the sacraments of Confession (within 20 days) and Communion, praying for the intentions of the Pope, and being completely detached from sin apply in order to receive the plenary indulgence.

Ash Wednesday Information Masses will be 8:15 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (SBCS attending), and 7:00 p.m. at St. Benedict Church. Masses at St. Benedict’s Abbey will be at 12:10 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is

an obligatory day of fasting and abstinence. Catholics age 14 and older are to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday days and on the Fridays of Lent. On days of fasting (Ash Wednesday and Good Friday), Catholics 18 - 59 years old are to take one meal and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity.

Events, News, and Information Steubenville Mid-America Registration

Steubenville Mid-America registration is now open! The dates this year are July 10-12. Please sign up for your spot as soon as possible, as registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Cost is $240 and a $50 deposit will secure your spot. Please contact Christian Wessel at [email protected] or 913-426-3914 with questions.

Importance of Eucharistic Adoration In a recent survey, sadly just one-third of U.S. Catholics say they believe that ‘during Catholic Mass, the bread and wine actually become the body and blood of Jesus,’ which is exactly what our Lord Himself taught us about the Eucharist. Br. Julian from the Knights of the Holy Eucharist will be encouraging us to consider spending time with the Lord in Eucharistic Adoration at this weekend’s Masses. On Monday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Benedict Church, he will encourage us to come to a deeper belief in Jesus, who is truly present in the Eucharist, and to recognize the beauty and power of adoring Him in Eucharistic Adoration. You are invited to join us in listening to Br. Julian! We thank all those who go to Adoration regularly. Fr. Jeremy’s goal is to have at least two parishioners/parish families or groups signed up for Adoration each hour. Please check out the bulletin board in the St. Benedict Church vestibule. The yellow blocks are the times in which we need someone to sign up; there’s currently over 150 openings. Please consider signing up there or calling the parish office. Still thinking about whether or not to take an adoration hour? Here's a story from one of our parishioners that might help persuade you:

My hour of Adoration is my time with Jesus, just Him and me. Sometimes I am not in the mood to go, but every time this happens, while I am sitting there looking at Him, I think that there is nowhere else I would ra-ther be right now. I have never had wonderful revelations, He has never spoken to me, I have never witnessed a miracle. But I leave with such infinite peace. Peace that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. I read somewhere that Jesus took a follower that was really upset behind a shed so He could listen to him in private. I feel that this is my Adoration hour. It is my time to tell Jesus my concerns, my joys, my fears and to just sit in His presence. Just Him and me. - Teri

Is the world overwhelming? Do you long for peace that truly passes all understanding? Take some one-on-one time in the chapel with Jesus. He's waiting for you. Contact Sherry Lange at 913-367-1858 or call the parish office for available times.

“Value Them Both” Amendment Vote On February 7, the “Value Them Both” Amendment failed to reach the necessary 2/3 majority vote in the House. It received 80 YES votes, but needed 84. Thank you to everyone who prayed, fasted, and contacted their Representative for the support of this Amendment! While we are disappointed that it did not pass, “Value Them Both” will likely come up for another vote this year. We will continue to work to educate key Repre-sentatives on how this amendment will help to save lives and protect women. Kansans deserve better than unlim-ited and unregulated abortion in our great state. Visit archkck.org/prolife to see how your representa-tive voted. Please send a note of thanks or a message of disappointment to your Representative. Please also join in the Kansas Rosary Crusade until we succeed in the passage of the “Value Them Both” Amendment (kansasrosarycrusade.org). Our Lady of Guadalupe, please pray for us!
