"Love your enemies."

REFLECTIONS ON STEWARDSHIP: “But I say to

you, love your enemies and pray for those who

persecute you…” Matthew 5:44 "Love your enemies

is easier said than done, no doubt, but remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away from “me” and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”. When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it softens their hearts as well.

INTENTION FOR FEBRUARY

Universal: Comfort for the Afflicted - That

are afflicted, especially the poor, refugees, and marginalized, may find welcome and comfort in our communities.

A STORY TO SHARE

A new patient walked into the office of the famous psychiatrist Dr. Smiley Blanton. The patient noticed a copy of the Bible on Dr. Blanton's desk. "Don't tell me that the great Dr. Blanton reads the Bible," said the patient. "I not only read the Bible," said Dr. Blanton. "I meditate on it. It isthe greatest text book on human behavior ever written. If people followed its teaching, a lot of psychiatrists could close their offices and go fishing".

WORDS OF WISDOM

“As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery… we have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.” — Dalai Lama

COUNTDOWN FOR LENT: Lent begins on March 1the Ash Wednesday Celebration - two Masses, and the distribution of the Ashes during the Masses. The first Mass will be at 9 am in the Christ King Chapel, and the second Mass will be at 7 pm in the main church.

<> Ash Wednesday is a universal day of fasting and abstinence from meat. <> The main Lenten works are prayer, penance, fasting, and almsgiving. <> The individual Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated:

• every Wednesday during Lent from 7:30-8:30 pm, • 30 minutes prior to the weekday Masses, • every Saturday from 11 am to noon.

REJOICE IN GOD'S MERCY Catholics celebrate the

Sacrament of Reconciliation because we recognise that sometimes we fail to do as we oughtbecause we believe in God's mercy and forgiveness. The priest can help you and you can trust the Holy Spirit to guide you. Even if you don't know how you

can change your life, showing up makes you open to the grace that the sacrament brings. The Diocese of Calgary invites you to re-discover the meaning of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in your life. Action: Speak about the Sacrament of Reconciliation with someone this week. Share a positive experience or discuss your reservations with a priest or someone you know who participates in the sacrament.
