This Month’s Liturgy at a Glance We are in the midst of the Ordinary Time and it seems nothing happens during the summer; however, there are liturgical opportunities. In many cities, small communities of faith take advantage of the good weather to give public testimony of their faith and invite those who are distant by celebrating the Eucharist in the street of their neighborhoods. This evangelizing activity is very much in agreement with the reading for these Sundays, which invite toward a radical commitment and send out to the mission of Jesus in our daily life and in the cities. Again there is a progression in the gospel of these Sundays: the acceptance of the mission and sending forth (14th Sunday) is followed by the call to do good to others, not as an obligation, but out of pure love and conviction (15th); the passage from the gospel about Martha and Mary calls to a true hospitality—one of the most important Christian virtues (16th); and finally, we are told about becoming the person God wants us to be, through the imitation of Jesus and prayer (17th). All this represents a cycle of deepening in our Christian life, which is repeated throughout the year in different liturgical times yet provides an opportunity to apply to daily life during Ordinary Time. Summer is also a time of pilgrimages and processions, patron saint festivals, and outdoor celebrations. The faith is taken to the street. Chile and Colombia celebrate Mary under the devotion of Our Lady of Carmel and of Chiquinquirá, respectively. With Independence Day in the United States, it is a good time to give thanks for our freedom and to commit ourselves to working more for justice for all.

Un Vistazo a la Liturgia de este Mes Estamos en medio del Tiempo Ordinario y parece que nada sucede durante el verano; Sin embargo, hay oportunidades litúrgicas. En muchas ciudades, las pequeñas comunidades de fe aprovechan el buen clima para dar testimonio público de su fe e invitan a los que están lejos celebrando la Eucaristía en las calles de sus vecindarios. Esta actividad evangelizadora está muy de acuerdo con la lectura de estos domingos, que invitan a un compromiso radical y se envían a la misión de Jesús en nuestra vida diaria y en las ciudades. Nuevamente, hay una progresión en el evangelio de estos domingos: a la aceptación de la misión y al envío (domingo 14) le sigue el llamado a hacer el bien a los demás, no como una obligación, sino por puro amor y convicción (15). ; el pasaje del evangelio sobre Marta y María llama a una verdadera hospitalidad, una de las virtudes cristianas más importantes (16ª); y finalmente, se nos dice que nos convertimos en la persona que Dios quiere que seamos, a través de la imitación de Jesús y la oración (17). Todo esto representa un ciclo de profundización en nuestra vida cristiana, que se repite a lo largo del año en diferentes tiempos litúrgicos, pero ofrece una oportunidad para aplicar a la vida diaria durante el Tiempo Ordinario. El verano es también una época de peregrinaciones y procesiones, fiestas patronales y celebraciones al aire libre. La fe es llevada a la calle. Chile y Colombia celebran a María con la devoción de Nuestra Señora del Carmelo y de Chiquinquirá, respectivamente. Con el Día de la Independencia en los Estados Unidos, es un buen momento para dar gracias por nuestra libertad y comprometernos a trabajar más por la justicia para todos.
