Dear Friends in Christ,
It’s that time of year when the “kookery” comes out in a bold way. A Montgomery County school
in Maryland has removed all references to all religious holidays from their calendar to answer
complaints about Muslim holidays not being on the calendar. This includes Christmas and Yom Kippur for example.
The children will still be on holiday during those days, but the religious holidays cannot be referenced. Why do I
have a hunch that the stores will still use the words “Christmas Sale?” The School Board actually voted for this
change. If that weren’t enough, a called the South Arbor Charter Academy has replaced the murals in its Heroes Hall.
The Space Shuttle astronauts, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Betsy Ross and Albert Einstein used to adorn the
walls; they were replaced with President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, Maya Angelou, Walt Disney and the
authoress of the Harry Potter novels, J.K. Rowling! As one parent said, “This is no longer a hall of heroes. Now we
have a hall of celebrities.” I am not saying that all of those figures are bad. But interestingly, the board stated that the
new murals represented figures who exemplify “wisdom, respect, gratitude, self-control, perseverance, courage, en-
couragement, compassion and integrity.” Well, let me say that if that is the case, then the embodiment of those vir-
tues was born in Bethlehem, healed the sick, expelled demons, died for our sins and rose from the dead! Where is His
mural? Saint Paul said in his letter to the Romans: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in
your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Get those paint brushes out and paint an icon of the
Alpha and the Omega, Jesus Christ! From our Savior’s own lips we hear “Everyone who acknowledges me before
others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my
heavenly Father.” (Matthew 10:33-34).
God bless you and praised be Jesus Christ!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

line to preserve freedom around the world. We thank God
for our good fortune to be citizens of the USA. We contin-
ue to pray for our men and women overseas especially,
Justin Gousha, Shawn Jarrell, Becky & Nick Johnson,
Martin Renzi, Brian Simmons, Rob Solome, Sarah Turse,
Chris Fusco, Charity Winkler, Brian Schwartz, and Josh
Little. If someone has returned home, we ask that you let
us know. Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their
families for the selfless acts they perform in our time of
need. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
Family Prayer Crucifix for Vocations
Every Sunday at 10 AM Mass, we will see a
family receive a Crucifix to take home for the week to
pray for vocations to the Holy Priesthood and Religious
Life. It is contained in a beautiful handcrafted box which
also serves as a stand for the Crucifix. Prayers to be used
by the host family are on a laminated program in the box.
Every weekend the host family will return the Crucifix in
procession. A new host family will receive it at the end
of Mass. Sister Vilma is the Crucifix for Vocations coor-
dinator. Let us pray for holy vocations to religious life
from our parish. If you are praying over a possible call-
ing, please speak to Father Szolack.
