P astoral Reflections Fourth Sunday of Easter

Although today many RCIA coordinators may be using the Gospel of the blind man who recovers his sight from Year A, the Gospel for Year C— the parable of the prodigal son— is one of the most beautiful readings for Lent. All the readings proclaim the theme of reconciliation in Jesus. For our communities, this is a very important theme; it makes us reflect on the efforts we make to welcome those who come to us and also the many we must seek out and bring closer to the Lord. Article copied with permission from Liturgia y Cancion Volume 27 published by OCP

From the Faith Formation Office... We are beginning our Faith Formation Raffle. We are asking each family to sell one book of raffle tickets. Each book has twenty tickets with a donation of $5 for each ticket. Winners will be able to choose their prize from a book with up to 40 prize choices. There will be 43 prizes worth from $30. to $500.With everyone working together this should be the only fundraiser our program will need. As a parishioner and now the Faith formation Director I recognize our need for a Youth Ministry here at St. Joseph. We cannot continue allow them to leave after Confirmation and hope they will continue to grow their faith all on their own. We need a group of leaders who will help our teen-agers and young adults feel a part of the community that Jesus Christ continues to build today. We will soon be form-ing a group to begin planning our new youth group. We need to help our young people to become the church of today. Please think about it, pray about it and be the voice of the Holy Spirit to encourage those with the talent and desire to come forward for this ministry. You can now follow us on Twitter @StJosephAddison Pro-gram reminders and inspirational messages will be commu-nicated on a regular basis. HUNGERING TO LEARN We journey with CRS Rice Bowl to the Central American country of Honduras, where we meet students who are learning that it’s better to help your neighbor learn and grow than to leave him or her behind. To whom are we called to extend a hand this week? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

P arish Council put out purple Ser-vice flyers two weeks ago and we have already received re-sponses. Last week we put them

into the bulletins and received questions. This is what you recognize as “Time & Talent”, we are trying a new way for

sharing ministry information with each other. Please put your prayerfully considered response in the collection bas-ket at your mass and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. If you have any questions please speak to the Parish Council member that you know or call the Parish of-fice to leave your name and number and someone will be in touch with you. You also have the option of attending the next Parish Council meeting the first Tuesday of most months. May God’s peace be with you and all you love. St. Joseph’s Parish Council.

invites you to attend an Immigration Advocacy Forum

Saturday, April 9, 2016 9:00 am – 12 noon Immaculate Conception Parish 134 Arthur Street ● Elmhurst The purpose of the forum is to educate ourselves on the very real issues that our undocumented brothers and sisters in Christ face every single day as they step out to go to work or spend time with their fami-lies. In addition, we will learn what resources are availa-ble to help us serve our fellow parishioners and neighbors who are confronted with immigration is-sues. Deacon Lupe Villarreal from the Diocese of Joliet has put together a panel composed of speakers that are well educated on this issue, as well as a witness who will relate her story. Please join us as we explore this issue which affects our parishes and commu-nities.

Jubilee Year of Mercy Holy Hour 3rd Tuesday of Every Month – 7 PM

March 15, 2016

As we celebrate this Jubilee Year of Mercy, come experience the mercy of God during an hour of prayer at Immaculate Conception Church,

Pilgrimage Church of Eastern DuPage County, held on the third Tuesday of every month of our jubilee year.

In the month of March, we will be praying particularly for the Forgiveness of Sins

Obtaining a Plenary Indulgence during the Year of Mercy A plenary indulgence frees a person from all of the temporal punishment due to sins and may be gained only once on any one day. Indulgences are only applicable to oneself and to the dead.

How can one obtain a plenary indulgence during the Year of Mercy? One obtains this indulgence by:

having the intention of acquiring the indulgence, going to confession (before or after the visit), receiving Holy Communion, making a profession of faith, praying for the Holy Father and for the intentions that he bears in his heart for the good of the Church and of the entire world, while doing any of the following:

The faithful by visiting one of the Diocesan Pilgrimage churches The sick and people who are elderly and alone by receiving Holy Communion or attending Holy

Mass and community prayer (even through the various means of communication) The faithful by personally performing one or more of the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mer-

cy The faithful by remembering the deceased at Holy Mass and praying that they be freed from

every remnant of fault and thus be embraced by God in the blessedness of life eternal.
