A SUMMARY OF BISHOP GARCIA’S MEMORANDUM REGARDING FLU AWARENESS AND LITURGICAL CHANGES,

DATED JANUARY 10, 2018:

Last week, we received a letter from Bishop Garcia regarding the flu season, in which he makes the following reminders and recommendations to reduce the likelihood of the flu’s spread:

• The sick or those who are not feeling well are never obliged to attend Sunday Mass. • Those who are at Mass and are not feeling well should avoid shaking hands during greeting and during the sign of peace. • Reception of the consecrated host in the hand is preferred to reception on the tongue. • Those who are at Mass and are not feeling well should avoid receiving the Precious Blood

from the communion cup. Receiving from the cup is always optional.

We have already started to implement these changes. They will be lifted when the flu season ends. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and please keep our sick brothers and sisters in your prayers.

UN RESUMEN DE LA MEMORANDUM DEL OBISPO GARCIA SOBRE LA CONCIENCIA DE LA GRIPE Y LOS CAMBIOS LITÚRGICOS,

CON FECHA DEL 10 DE ENERO DE 2018:

La semana pasada, recibimos una carta del Obispo García con respecto a la temporada de gripe, con los siguientes recordatorios y recomendaciones para reducir la probabilidad de propagación de la gripe:

• Los enfermos o aquellos que se sienten mal nunca están obligados a ir a la misa dominical. • Aquellos que están en Misa y se sienten mal deben evitar tomarse de la mano durante el

saludo inicial, y evitar estrechar la mano durante el Beso de la Paz. • Sugerimos que reciban la Sagrada Hostia por la mano en lugar de la lengua. • Aquellos que están en Misa y se sienten mal deben evitar recibir la copa de la comunión. Recibir de la copa es siempre opcional.

Ya hemos comenzado a implementar estos cambios. Regresaremos a la normalidad cuando termine la temporada de gripe. Gracias por su entendimiento y cooperación, y por favor ruegan por nuestros hermanos enfermos.
