It has been lovely to see the children looking so smart in their winter uniforms— thank you for remembering! It has been a very busy first week back and this afternoon some of our Y6 children took part in Sutton Roadwatch, an initiative to encourage drivers to drive safely in the roads around our school . Look out for their report in our next Newsletter. At the end of last half term, Y5 were the first Sutton School to take part in Gymrun—the team running the initiative stated: 'We have had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of Gymrun with SG Sports Coaching and Year 5 at St Dunstan’s Primary. All children smartly dressed, very focused and hard working. Fantastic determination shown to achieve their personal best in the five challenges. There was a great sense that the children clearly understood the importance of developing their physical health, and of how to go about doing this through Physical Education. St Dunstan’s looks a happy place to learn!’. Well done to all. As part of our ‘Tomorrow’s World’ topic, Year 6 visited the Science Museum. At the museum, we went to a theatre show called ‘Prime Time’ which was all about prime numbers and semi-prime numbers. These are used to encrypt our bank accounts and keep informaon safe so that hackers find it hard to break into computer systems. The best part of the show was when Mrs Ward was locked to a chair with locks and chains and we needed to solve calculaons in order to unlock her! Following the show, we visited The Wonderlab. We really enjoyed this area as it was full of science experiments. We could wander around trying lots of experiments and watching demonstraons. There were slides with different surfaces to show the effect of fricon. There was something that you had to bite which then made music if you blocked your ears - this was to show sound vibraons. We made paper aeroplanes and watched them fly with a wind machine. There were chairs with ropes and pulleys aached. We pulled the rope with all our strength and the chair went up. It was fun but ring! Downstairs there was a temporary exhibion called ‘Top Secret: from ciphers to cyber- security’ which fied in parcularly well with our topic. It showed us how people all over the world communicated secretly during the first and second world wars. One of the acvies we could try was to open a safe. There were 10,000 different possibilies and sadly we didn’t have enough me to figure it out! There was also an exhibion in the museum called ‘Tomorrow’s World’. This contained a lot of informaon about driverless cars. There was an F1 driverless car as well as a stained-glass driverless car with a bed inside! We thoroughly enjoyed our day at the museum. Members of Year 6 A Royal Visitor…. Year 5 was visited by one of England's most controversial kings of the 14 th century: King Richard II. Before his visit, the children compiled evidence-based quesons, built on their acquired knowledge from last term. We were thoroughly excited to be in the presence of royalty, and also to put a famously disliked king under pressure! The children learnt that history can somemes only give one side of the story. King Richard spoke about his rise to power and his difficult reign in those dark mes. His Majesty, was both gracious and honourable in his responses and the children gained great knowledge and insight into his life. King Richard II, was very pleased with the complex quesons asked of him. Before long, we received a leer, wrien by the King himself, stang how impressed he was and delighted to have been asked to aend. Well done Year 5! Welcome back for our 2nd half of the Autumn Term! I trust that you all enjoyed the half term break

with your children. It has been lovely to see the children looking so smart in their winter uniforms—

thank you for remembering!

It has been a very busy first week back and this afternoon some of our Y6 children took part in Sutton

Roadwatch, an initiative to encourage drivers to drive safely in the roads around our school . Look out

for their report in our next Newsletter.

At the end of last half term, Y5 were the first Sutton School to take part in Gymrun—the team running

the initiative stated: 'We have had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of Gymrun with SG Sports Coaching and

Year 5 at St Dunstan’s Primary. All children smartly dressed, very focused and hard working. Fantastic

determination shown to achieve their personal best in the five challenges. There was a great sense that the

children clearly understood the importance of developing their physical health, and of how to go about doing this through Physical Education. St Dunstan’s looks a

As part of our ‘Tomorrow’s World’ topic, Year 6 visited the Science Museum. At the museum, we went to a theatre show called ‘Prime Time’ which was all about prime numbers and semi-prime numbers. These are used to encrypt our bank accounts and keep information safe so that hackers find it hard to break into computer systems.

A Royal Visitor….

Year 5 was visited by one of England's most controversial kings of the 14th

century: King Richard II.

Before his visit, the children compiled evidence-based questions, built on their acquired knowledge from last term.

We were thoroughly excited to be in the presence of royalty, and also to put a famously disliked king under pressure!

The children learnt that history can sometimes only give one side of the story. King Richard spoke about his rise to power and his difficult reign in those dark times. His Majesty, was both gracious and honourable in his responses and the children gained great knowledge and insight into his life.

King Richard II, was very pleased with the complex questions asked of him. Before long, we received a letter, written by the King himself, stating how impressed he was and delighted to have been asked to attend. Well done Year 5!

Admission Consultation – St Dunstan’s, Cheam, C of E Primary School

In accordance with the School Admission Code, St Dunstan’s, Cheam, C of E Primary School is consulting on the proposed change to admissions arrangements for September 2021 entry. Please see the school’s website for full details.

On Wednesday 16th October, St Dunstan’s took part in the annual Borough Cross Country event 2019. The afternoon was very exciting as we watched our runners cross the line with

determination and securing us points. Overall, St Dunstan’s finished in 2nd

place out of 13 schools. With a total of 24 points, 4 points away from the winners, this was a gallant effort.

A special well done to Year 4 boys, whose combined scores won them the champions award for their race. Also, to Charlotte and Cobi who both finished in 1st place in their respective races. A star award goes out to Sylvie our Year 3 runner, who was running in

the Year 4 girls team, and finished in 9th place, which helped them to secure 2nd place overall. Congratulations to all of our runners.

Mental Health and Well-Being Week 11th- 15th November 2019

A reminder that school will be hosting its first Mental Health and Well-Being Week this year. Details of the workshops can be downloaded here. Children will be learning about mental health and well-being at an age appropriate level. There are workshops organised for parents throughout the week, which need to be booked by sending an email to the school office at [email protected] and will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Thank you to everyone who

supported the NSPCC Dance-a-

thon. Due to your generous donations, we raised over

£2,000. Mrs Phillips from the

NSPCC came in at the end of term and presented

Phoenix and Neptune with certificate for the classes

with the highest number of envelopes returned.

As you will have seen from the recent communication,

we have a NSPCC Parent Workshop on Wednesday 6th

November. Please let the school office know if you

are able to attend. Thank you for your support.

We will be supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Our House Captains will be continue to take

poppies to each class during the school day next week.
