Dear Friends,

As we gather to worship at the table of the Word and the table of the Eucharist this weekend, we as a nation take this week-end to give honor to the women of the world who gave us the gift of life our mothers!

In the “infancy narrative” of Luke’s Gospel, the angel Gabriel came to a young woman to bring her surprising and joyful good news. She was pregnant but she wondered. Realizing the complexities of her pregnancy in a judgmental society, she raised her concerns to the angel and found reassurance. Of all the reflective quotes about mothers, her response is the re-sponse all mothers are invited to voice and live. The young woman said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel de-parted from her.

Like many, I know my mother had a connect with that young woman. With the unique gifts and challenges of her life, she said yes to the gift of life for five children. Throughout her life, whether it was a gentle but firm correction, a wonderfully endless hug, encouragement amidst despair, she was a hand-maid of the Lord. I was and am blessed to have been given the gift of life through my mother. May she celebrate eternal life.

May your Mother’s Day be joyful. If you are celebrating with your mother, or your children relish the moments that be-come memories. If you are saddened by the loss of your mother or child, be blessed with happy memories. If you are pained by hurtful memories, be kind to yourself. Take time this weekend to celebrate the gift of motherhood.

That young woman who said yes to the angel Gabriel is Mary, our mother, our greatest model of motherhood. Blessed mother, blessed are you among woman, pray for us always. Happy Mother’s Day!

INVITATION TO PASTORAL PLAN BRIEFING

The Parish Pastoral Council invites our parish-

ioners to an information session to dialogue about the Parish Pastoral Plan released in March 2018. This session will be on Sunday May 20 after the 10:30 AM Mass in the church hall.

The Pastoral Plan provides a comprehensive vision for the rebuilding of our Saint Bridget Univer-sity Parish into a dynamic and vibrant community of discipleship. It encompasses 7 facets of a vibrant parish with 17 longterm goals, 37 shortterm objec-tives detailing those goals, and 195 strategies for executing the objectives.

At this session Pastoral Council will provide an overview, then answer your questions as best we can. So please join Pastoral Council on May 20 at 11:30 AM for a discussion about our parish future presented in the Pastoral Plan.
