Srinagar, July 14: At least 17 per-sons, including four policemen, were injured in clashes between youth and the government forces personnel in Narbal, Anantnag and Pulwama on Friday, even as forces arrested 19 youth in south Kashmir, reports and witnesses said.

A witness said that clashes between the forces and youth erupted in Narbal chowk after Friday prayers. “At least ten youth and four policemen sus-tained injuries in the clashes,” the witness said. “The clashes were going on at Narbal ghat till late evening.”

In Downtown Srinagar, govern-ment had imposed strict curbs in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of six police stations, including Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal, Khanyar, Nowhatta and Rainawari. Maisuma area of civil lines also witnessed similar curbs.

At the historic Jamia Masjid, the government didn’t allow the Friday prayers for the fourth consecutive week. All gates of Jamia Masjid were locked by government forces while

roads leading to the historic Masjid were blocked with concertina wires.

In a tweet, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while react-ing to curfew, wrote: “Strict curfew imposed. Friday prayers again dis-allowed for the fourth consecutive week at #JamaMasjid. PDP has com-pletely brazened it out. As part of anti-Muslim, anti Kar nexus, it is beyond redemption....”

Meanwhile, reports of protests after Friday prayers also came in from Soura and Hydepora area of Srinagar.

3 youth injured, 14 arrested in Anantnag Three youth were injured while 14 others were detained on Friday during clashes in old town area of Anantnag district. As soon as the congregational prayers concluded, youth clashed with police and para-military forces at Reshi Bazar local-ity. “The youth pelted stones while the forces responded by lobbing tear gas shells,” a witness said. “Soon the clashes spilled over to Sherbagh, Cheeni Chowk, Janglat Mandi and

Lal chowk. Three youth sustained injuries and were treated at district hospital Anantnag.”

People alleged that the government forces personnel detained 14 youth from Jamia Masjid Anantnag.

A 10 year old- minor- Riyan Mukhtar son of Peoples League (PL) chairman and Hurriyat (M) executive member- Mukhtar Ahmad Waza was among those detained by police, locals said.

They alleged that a youth was pushed down the roof of a structure (Hamam) outside Jamia Masjid during the clashes. As soon as this news spread, the shopkeepers downed their shutters in the entire old town.

However, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anantnag, Altaf Khan, dispelled the reports that any youth was pushed from the roof top.

“These are only rumors. No one was pushed from the roof top and neither any one has sustained injury during clashes” Khan told Greater Kashmir.

for shutdown in Anantnag on Saturday against the ransacking of Jamia Masjid and arrest of dozens of youth.
