Wood Art from the Lathe

Indianapolis native Dave Daniel has enjoyedlathe work since the 1980's, and has seen the art movefrom simple shapes to complex pieces using a combination of materials and methods. Using materialsthat are unsuitable for most wood working projects, Dave isrewarded by creating art and sculpture from woods that areotherwise destined for the dumpster.

Dave's work begs to be touched; the tactile feedback of the silkiness of the finished wood is complemented by contrasting textures. The material bringsa lot to the finished product with a wide variety of attributessuch as burl grain patterns, bark inclusions, worm holes, spalting, and natural edges. However, it's the collaborationbetween the material and the artist that yields rewarding, beautiful treasures and these will be in booth 35 at theSpringtime in Indiana...art, craft and gift showcase inNoblesville, Indiana.

On Lindleyhill

Carrie Neidlinger, fromFrankfort, Indiana began workingwith polymer clay as a hobby inearly 2009. Later that year she

began selling my handmadejewelry at a few local festivals. Since then it hasbecome her full time job andin 2011 she attended over 25festivals, craft shows, andart fairs all over Indiana. Themost common technique usedin Carries' designs is knownas "millefiore" meaning "athousand flowers". It is aglass working technique, which has been adapted intopolymer clay. In this technique, logs of several

colors of clay are fit together in acohesive design, such as a flower orbutterfly. The result is called a cane,a log of clay with a consistent

design running throughout theentire length. The cane then issqueezed down to the size desired foruse through aprocess called reducing. Slicesfrom the cane arethen applied tovarious projects. The completeditem is then baked, hand-sandedusing 5-6 grits of sandpaper, andthen finished by either buffing orvarnishing. In addition to jewelryand hair accessories she is expanding her line to include homedecor items such as, picture frames, candleholders, wine bottlestoppers, and much more!
