SPOTLIGHT

Miss Blackburn Ten Tors Team Manager

Dear Parents and Carers

OPEN EVENING – WEDNESDAY 24th SEPTEMBER

On W ednesday night Poltair School put on a fantastic spectacle as we opened our doors to pupils and their parents from Year 6 in our feeder primary schools. The sun thankfully shone and we were almost overwhelmed by the number of visitors. Indeed for the first time we had to resort to parking cars on the school field. The evening was a fantastic success with many positive comments about the feel and ethos of the school and the range of exciting activities going on all around the site. Every subject area put on an impressive display and visitors were ably shown around the school by our Year 11 prefects.

The Open Evening is a major annual school event as it is part of helping families make a really important decision about secondary school education. It is also important because it is Poltair’s opportunity to show the community ‘what it does best’; and to demonstrate pride in the process. First of all a big ‘thank you’ is due to all the Poltair staff who gave willingly of their time and effort not only on the evening but also in the days running up to the event. Secondly, a thank you is due to the pupils who assisted on the evening, either as guides or helping in subject areas; the pupils really are the best ambassadors for the school and we should be rightly proud of them. Finally we should also offer thanks to those parents who gave permission or made extra journeys so that their sons and daughters could help out at this special event.

THE FIVE Ps

During this week senior staff have been checking to see whether Poltair pupils really are PREPARED (equipment, books, planners, kit). I am happy to report that so far the picture has been very positive and there should be some congratulatory letters (and a few corrective ones) going out to homes in the next few days. I will publish the full results in the next Spotlight. Next week’s focus is being PUNCTUAL.

Carnyorth G & T Art and Science Trip

We have held another very successful overnight residential at Carnyorth. Science staff accompanied us this year and spent time with the pupils looking for ores and using minerals in experiments. Pupils also produced some stunning landscapes of Geevor and Levant Tin Mines. We had a glorious day on Saturday and even suffered some sunburn! A very big ‘thank you’ to Mrs Gaukroger who arrived on Friday night with a box of tricks for chemistry experiments. Thanks also to Mr Martin and Mrs Whitbread-Abrutat for their hard work and time.
