Nursery Project The project is located within the provincial government. Ten hectares were considered for rice production for 2 cropping season this year. The project was able to produce 40 MT of palay ready for milling. Average of 6.64 MT per hectare. Production in all five treatments in 2008 was observed to have decreased as compared to the last two years. Frequent rain occurred this year and durian fruit rot was noted a month before harvesting season. This usually happened in humid condition where brown spots are visible on fruits. Fungicides were applied; however, production was still adversely affected. Pagkain ng Bayan is an agri-economic enterprise of the province of Agusan del Sur located in Mabuhay, Bayugan City with a total land area of 42.9 hectares. Aside from the maintenance of the existing projects, the four hectares unutilized area was now planted with rubber intercropped with banana, calamansi and rambutan. Production of rubber seedlings was given priority due to its demand. Livestock such as carabaos and goats were raised to augment production. For the year, Pagkain ng Bayan posted a gross income of P1, 313,934 from sales of various commodities and services. Assorted variety of vegetables was planted to an area of 0.50 hectares and had a production of 23291 kilograms. Care and maintenance of three hectares fruits trees such as mango, Lanzones, Durian, Rambutan, Santol, Mangosteen, and Coconut was regularly conducted. The total production was only 2097kgs. Trichoderma Laboratory Soils and Soil Laboratory

The Trichoderma Laboratory has finallyoperated to produce the composting micro-organismthat will be used to decompose rice straws.An activatorknown as the compost fungus activator (TrichodermaHarzianum) which shorten the decomposition period offarm residues from 3 to 5 months to 3 to 5 weeks. Thegeneral compost could be used as fertilizer to differentcrops. This project was established to support theRapid Composting programs of the Department ofAgriculture and the Sangguniang PanlalawiganOrdinance prohibiting the burning of rice straws.

The facility was able to produce 7,250 packs oftrichoderma. The 7,250 was distributed to 112 farmersserving 368 has of rice field. The 6,500 packs was usedin the 152 hectares RMC demo farm at Kapatungan,Trento while the 750 was sold at P10.00 per pack.

The Provincial Soil Laboratory was able toserve 496 farmers with 517 soil samples submitted forlaboratory analysis covering a total land farm area of813 has all this samples were completely analyzed onthe available primary macro nutrient (N, P, K), soil pHand texture. For soil samples from rice farm area, therapid soil test for available zinc, magnesium, calciumand sulfur was also conducted. Analysis results andfertilizer recommendations were distributed to farmersfor their guide in proper application, time and exactamount of fertilizer to be applied.

Agro-meteorological Services

Agricultural Communication

Daily reading of Agro-meteorological Stationwas regularly conducted. For the year, average rainfalldata of 324 mm. Heavy rainfall was recorded inJanuary while minimal rainfall in July.

Information dissemination has gone throughmiles in reaching out farmers and fisherfolks of theprovince. Advocacy on the use of appropriatetechnology and new advancements in farming, andefforts on forging participation and support amongstakeholders have meddled in various media.

In print, the section was able to distribute 2,040copies of reading materials in leaflets and brochures onRice, Corn, Vegetables and other High Value

Commercial Crops Production Guide and FisheryTechnologies. Posters and tarpaulins were alsoproduced and posted in strategic places throughout theprovince for public awareness. Likewise, highlightsand accomplishments of agricultural-related activitiesand farmers' success stories were documented andpublished in the Bahandi and Agri-Min magazines ofthe Department of Agriculture 13 circulated in theregion and Mindanao-wide, and in the Capitol News ofthe provincial government.

Crossing over broadcast media, the section stillgained financial support from DA-RFU 13 for the Office'regular radio program dubbed as GinintuangMasaganang Ani which is continuously hosted atDXDA Radyo Agusan every Friday at 5:00-5:45AM.With the program, technology on fishery particularly onfresh water fish culture (tilapia and gurami) and itsvalue adding were given focus for the year. Also, radioplugs on major programs produced and currentactivities were aired during this time slot.

Moreover, its audio-visual consisted video showing onappropriate technologies and best farm practices, andphoto coverage on various program implementation,operation, monitoring and evaluation activities. Forthese a compilation of all documentation is maintainedon file for easy access and utilization by all concerned.

To continuously serve the public-researchers, the Mini-Library and Information Charts are also ablymaintained. In addition, the initiative of establishingFarmer's Information and Technology Services (FITS)is still on progress as it is working on fundingrequirements.

In the continued delivery of its mandate and inwelcoming challenges ahead, the Section proposedadditional facilities and resources to augment itsservices. Despite limitations, it will relentlessly workfor more good things to happen in 2009.

Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority

The Provincial Agriculture Office has affordedto continuously oversee fertilizer and pesticidesdealers' activities in the province. Hence, responsibledealership was kept uphold.

For the year in review, 38 agro-dealers provincewide were constantly monitored. Six of which wereassisted to renew their licenses while 3 were registeredas new dealers. However, there were also 6 dealerswho made to close their stores. Likewise, 38 wereregistered as Accredited Safety Dispenser or ASDholder, of which 6 were able to renew their accreditationand 3 came as new ones. Two were as well maintainedas repackers.

From here, the office will once more keep theFertilizers and Pesticides' mandate undertaken inorder to give guidance to our agro-dealers andsafeguard our farmers and environment.

The Provincial Agriculture Office gives highpremium in organizing, maintaining and strengtheningthe rural based organization so that they will serve aschannel of agricultural endeavors and also a partner inagricultural development. Thus, several activities wereconducted this year to response the needs bothtechnical and organizational aspects.

In Trento, 2 sets of skills training on theutilization of Corn Husk were conducted with 40participants while 55 participants attended the seminaron fossilized/skeletonized of leaves and dyeing atProvincial Training Center, Prosperidad and at theMunicipality of San Francisco.

1. Rural Based Organization (RBO)

On the other hand, the province facilitated theconduct of 1st Provincial Agriculturist Congress held atProvincial Training Center, Prosperidad with 150participants attended.

Further, participated in the Regional FarmFamily Forum at Luciana Convention Center andgarnered the over-all champion. Eleven participantscoming from different municipalities also attended theASEAN Farmers Week Celebration at Cagayan de OroCity.

Moreover, RBO Staff was tapped as one of themembers of Provincial Evaluators Team in the conductof Search for Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran andNutrition Evaluation.

Agribusiness & Marketing Unit

For CY 2008 the Agribusiness and MarketingSection has conducted a 2nd Batch Study Visit of 11Municipal Agribusiness Coordinator to different Palayand Corn Traders/Millers outside and inside CaragaRegion. The purpose of this activity is to facilitate easymarketing assistance by MACs during harvest.

Eight Hundred Sixty Participants attended RCCOrientation in the Municipalities of Prosperidad, Sta.Josefa and Veruela as prerequisite for the operation ofRCC Consolidation Center.

There were already 8 municipalities enrolled inRCC. In 2006, La Paz and Esperanza while in thesucceeding year CY 2007, Bayugan, San Franciscoand Trento.

For cropping period March May 2008 RCCdelivered 2,221.5 sacks with Gross Sales ofP1,836,383.81 benefiting 22 farmers from themunicipalities of Sta. Josefa, La Paz, Trento and SanFrancisco. Farmers have gained as much as P0.20 toP.050 per kilo of their palay sold with total gainedamounting to P49,077.72.

For cropping period August November 2008RCC deliveries 2,678 sacks with Gross Sales ofP2,507,749.60 with 57 farmers directly benefitingcoming from the municipalities of Sta. Josefa,Prosperidad, San Francisco and Trento and gained ashigh as P0.50 to P3.71 per kilo of palay seed with astotal gained of P272,224.60. Considerable gained perkilo ranging from P2.00 3.71 if palay is sold to NationalFoodAuthority (NFA).

The PAFC conducted four quarterly meetingsand was able to formulate 10 Resolutions in which 8were acted. The AFC was able to reorganized throughand election. Hosted the 6th Mindanao PAFC Summitparticipated by the AFC Mindanao wide discussing the“FIELDS” programs of the Department of Agriculturefor the betterment ofAgricultural Sector in Mindanao.

Two project proposals the Hog Raising andVegetable Production were approved and fundedunder the roll-over fund of the DA RFU XIII amountingto P25, 000.00 each with RIC of Sibagat as therecipient.

2. Prov’l. Agricultural & Fishery Council (PAFC)In summation for CY 2008, RCC has delivered

5,449.50 sacks of palay with Gross Sales of P4,344,133.41 or roughly 4.4 Million benefiting 79farmers and have gained a total of P321, 301 or anaverage gained per farmer of P 4,206.36

To facilitate the delivery of Agri-Financingprogram an Agri-Credit Orientation for Farmers andFisherfolks were being conducted to municipalities ofProsperidad, Sta. Josefa, Esperanza and Bunawanwith 480 participants. Banking Institutions usuallypresent during the orientation are the Rural Bank ofMontevista (RBM), PBC, QUEDANCOR, One NetworkBank, COBAS, LBP, Green Bank and SAFRAGEMC.
