    $155, so cheaper than the

some of the other kits. Im

    getting one...but who

    wouldnt?

    Other news is that

    BattleStation Ipswich is

    moving. For those of you

    familiar with the streets of

    Ipswich the new location

will be at the Old Flour Mill,

on the same street and just

down the road. Nate is ex-

    panding, opening a new

    store at Highfields near

    Toowoomba. The Ipswich

    store will be managed by

    two competent persons,

    Nate tells me.

    The GGG Mordheim cam-

paign starts in late April so

    for those who are interest-

    ed, start putting your

    warbands together. Let me

    know if you need any

    sheets or have any rule

    queries.

    As usual, send your sub-

    missions in to:

    Garagegamersgroup

    @gmail.com and put Editor

    in the subject line.

    SEE YOU THERE

On the 17th of February we

    lost a good friend and

    founding GGG member,

Zach Seib. With news thatshocked us all, his father

let me know that he had

    passed away from a heart

    attack. He was 34 years

old. Zach played in all of

    our groups games, never

    missing a session of War-

    hammer Fantasy Roleplay,

    a game of Apocolypse, or

    his 40k roleplaying that he

    was Games Master for. He

had a great attitude, thatshowed when he was gam-

    ing and would talk for

    hours about what he want-

ed to do with the games he

    was involved in. He be-

came a great friend to all

of us, and we will miss him.

    Autumn is my favourite

    season. Perfect weather

    for painting and gaming..

    Dont forget to start getting

    those items together that

you want to sell or trade in

    the Swap Meet this month.

Once again the date is Sat-

    urday, 22nd of this month

    at BattleStation Ipswich.

    See Nate at BattleStation

to book a table half or

whole with $10 per table or

    $6 per table half.

    Vendors need to be there

    by 1030hrs for 1100hrs

    start. The swap meet will

    run until 1500hrs.

    Oldhammer is drawing

    more and more attention

    as it promotes third edition

    Warhammer Fantasy pri-

    marily, but pretty much any

    OOP miniature has ap-

    peared on the page. The

    site is overseen by James

Taylor in the U.K. Lots of

great stuff and I urge you

to check it out. Search for

    Oldhammer Group on Fa-

    cebook, and hop on and

    join and upload pictures of

    your old miniatures.

    Ive had to make ongoing

    adjustments to the calen-

dar over the next few is-

    sues so please make note

    of the changes. This was

due to a change in my ros-

ter at work and should only

have a minor impact on the

    dates for WFRP. Apologies

    for this.

    Games Workshop sees the

    release of their Titan

    Knight ranges tomorrow,

    designed to combat the

    Ork Stompa, the Imperial

    Guard Baneblade, the

    Necron Tesseract Vault,

    and the Chaos Lord of

Skulls. This will add to theEscalation expansion of

    the 40k rules. Rumors are

that they will be priced at

    Mordheim Box Set

Mordheim is a skirmish game; set

500 years before the current time in

    the Warhammer world, where op-

posing factions fight in the ruins of a

    once-great city. Mordheim, once a

great city capital of the Empire's

    most northern realm, was slowly

    enveloped by corruption. The only

beacon of hope and sanity in Mord-

heim was the Convent of the Sister-

hood of Sigmar. Weeks before the

end of the year 1999, the symbol of

    Sigmar himself -the twin-tailed

comet -had appeared in the sky. As

midnight of the final day of the year

    approached, Daemons crept from

the shadows and mingled with the

    throng, crying joyously and cavorting

with man and woman alike. As thefestival reached its zenith, the comet

impacted upon the city. Only the

Temple of Sigmar's Rock, home to

    the Sisterhood of Sigmar, remained

    unblemished. The city burned for

weeks, the comet leaving the ruins

of Mordheim covered in shards of

    solidified Chaos, soon to become

    known as wyrdstone. When Mord-

    heim finally stopped burning, merce-

nary warbands from all over the

Empire and beyond came in search

of it, for it was said that wyrdstone

can do anything; change your luck

and fortune and turn lead into gold.

Of course, Man was not the only

    race interested in wyrdstone, and

many other creatures prowl the City

    of the Damned.

    The Wargaming Compendium

tag as the book appeared quite

large, but I did ask myself the

    queson, What does this Henry

Hyde know about gaming that I

dont already know? So I sent

o my order and not more than

a week later the book arrived at

my door. On opening the book I

found the answer to my queson

    above was immediately an-

    swered. Everything...this book

is packed to the seams with eve-rything you would ever need to

know about any sort of wargam-

ing. Its print is set at a

    style that will take me

weeks to read which to me

    is value for money right

there, and if I had any neg-

    aves to say about the

    Wargaming Compendium

is that its too heavy to

    read in bed, especially if

    youre prone to dozing in

the middle of a read. This

book will knock you out.Anyway I fully recommend

    this book to all gamers.

    shed. Now gaming figures dont

    become any more valuable unless

they are at least ten years out of

    production, or were a rare

    release (like Necromunda Spyrer

    Matriarch & Patriarch) to begin

with. This is only important if you

are going to sell them in that con-dition. My StarWars friend chose

to rip his figures out of the boxes

and display them all over his

    house.

I have a friend who collects

    StarWars figures. You know, the

three and a quarter inch ones. If

you keep the figures in their origi-

    nal packaging, theyre supposed to

make a lot more money when the

    figures are in mint condition...that

is, like new. I know of anotherfellow who buys two of every-

thing. One gets opened and played

with, the other joins a stack of

similar boxes and blisters in his

So collectables ARE good, only if

you are going to sell them at

some stage. The things I have still

in boxes are there because I

havent yet found the time to

break them out, build, paint and

    play with them. Collectable OOP

miniatures are only going to at-tract 50% to the maximum of

what you originally paid, so rip

them open and play with them

    now, thats my advice.

market is huge, then you will need

to consider a stripper that is

friendly to both metal and plastic.Other things to remember is that

you have a well ventilated area,

    and somewhere that the excess

can be disposed of in a safe man-

ner. Also note that when cleaning

    the miniatures after stripping the

paint is that your area is either

covered to stop the flecks of old

paint sticking to walls, or in an

area where the odd fleck of old

    paint wont be noticed. Dont

forget to use gloves. My favourite is good old Dettol.

I dont know whether its the

    Chloroxylenol, Pine Oil or Isopro-

panol that takes the paint off, butovernight in Dettol for that minia-

ture and the paint comes off like a

glob of soft soap. You will have to

wash in a detergent mixture after

    but you will smell nice.

    Non Acetone Nail Polish remover

works well on plastics but may re-

quire a soft brush (old toothbrush)

to scrape off in the crevices.

Simply Green is the other product I

    would recommend. Its available as

    a general cleaner. Good luck.

Painting is a necessary chore but

stripping... if you want the cheaper

miniatures off ebay or from yourfriend that lost with his army five

times in a row and has become

very dissatisfied with it and is now

willing to sell it really cheaply...well

then sooner or later you will have

to strip a miniature or miniatures.

There are various ways to ap-

proach this task. There are quite a

lot of paint strippers out there

that are great for metal but will

melt your plastic miniature in two

minutes. Given that the range ofplastic miniatures now on the

    There are

    many gaming

    systems out

    have to do is

I buy a lot of books from the

    book depository. Theyre cheap-

er than buying in a local

bookstore and postage is free to

your door. I had heard of Henry

Hyde, as he is the publisher of a

    Wargaming magazine that I regu-

larly read. I have also seen refer-

    ences to the Wargaming Com-

    pendium. Then while trolling

    through the available books at

the book depository, I cameacross the compendium for sale.

I liked the y ve dollar price

had the opportunity to interview Margaret Weis of TSR Dragonlance fame and many other projects, this week. Following some r esearch,

I created a short list of quesons and presented them to her. The e -interview went as follows:

-Wikipedia credits your inial interest in Fantasy was sparked by Tolkien. What did you think of the Peter Jackson movies?

W-I saw the first movie and I really disliked it because Peter Jackson made a significant change in the movie from

book. The change had to do with a scene that had always moved me as a reader and inspired me as a writer. I did

t go to see the rest.

-Tracey Hickman had others involved in the idea of Dragonlance before you were involved. How is it that you and Tracy became the

n authors of this fantasy series?

W-Thats a long and complex story which we will be sharing over the months during this 30th anniversary period

the Dragonlance Legacy Facebook page. Come join us!

-In 1999 Pyramid magazine named Margaret Weis as one of The Millennium's Most Inuenal Persons, at least in the realm of adven-

e gaming." I don't doubt the accolade, but are you comfortable with that tle?

W-Well, it beats Approachable which is what Gen Con once called me.:)

-Dragonships of Vindras was the last trilogy of books listed as having you and Tracy Hickman co -authoring. Do you have any plans to

te again with Tracy in the future?

W-Tracy and I are working on the fourth book in that series, Doom of the Dragon.

-In the original Dragonlance Chronicles, who created the characters portrayed?

W-When I arrived on the scene, all we had for the characters were their stats and some wonderful paintings by the

ists. Tracy and I brought them to life, with the help of our friends (like Michael Williams, Jeff Grubb, Doug Niles).

-What was your favourite series, and who would you say was your favourite character?

W-Star of the Guardians is my favorite series. Raistlin is my favorite character.

-I loved Dragonlance, but was surprised at the future of the main characters. Was this decided inially or during wring the series?

W-We knew the future of some, such as Sturm and Raistlin. The others developed as we went along.

-With 'Firey' RPG, are you planning further modules for this or is it a stand alone book?

W-There will be adventure modules and supplements. I cant wait!

-What's in the pipeline for Margaret Weis Producons in the future?

W -Ah, I really dont want to have to kill you . . . :)

ark Heresy is a role playing game set in the grim darkness of the 41stmillennium , the decaying dark future of Warhammer 40,000. Below is the continuing background story of

Bekki Imam, GGG member Simon Machins character in Dark Heresy, continued from last 2 issues.

    Sister Krankies diaries

    Part 3

My name is Bekki Imam, I am an Acolyte of the Handmaidens of the Emperor, an Adepta Sororitas.

Our scanner let us know that more pirates were inbound. We prepared an ambush. The pirates sent a combat servitor at the

forefront of their force to eradicate us. Grim trauma shot the servitor with a priceless headshot, destroying the servitors brain

and disabling it immediately. Brawn, the Commander and I opened re on the remaining pirates, killing two as the rest fanned

out. I charged the corridor and assaulted them. They broke from my aacks, as Brawn joined me, and we chased the pirates

back to an open bulk head door. The cowards ran through and locked the bulkhead behind them. Brawn was pleased with

himself he tells me that "Sister ghts well. Sky-god has blessed me.

I used my data slate to thank him and ask him to open the door. He plants his feet, grabbed the door in his ham sted hands,

and with an amazing feat of strength, rips the door o the hinges. A pirate stands at the far end of the corridor, the fear visible

in his eyes. I don't hesitate and charge him. I hit him so hard with my ail he literally explodes, painng the walls around us in

gore. Brawn and I then go back to the li and wait. I prayed to the Emperor. I realized that I was enjoying the killing too much. I

pray fervently, and punish myself. I immediately feel a weight li o my soul .

The commander yells that more enemies are coming from the vents. He is in the service command room, trying to get the li

to funcon. The pirates are trying to do the same it seems.

Our scanner indicted they were trying to oulank us at the vents, we posioned ourselves for another ambush. We waited and

as the scum entered the sector through the vents, we opened re. The pirates never had a chance, killed where they entered,

falling back into the venlaon shas or to drape like bloodied rags over the vent entrance. The rest again dispersed like thecowards they are. Our squad reposions and checks the sector. I leave Grim Trauma to his work in disposing of the bodies. He

is a twisted creature, if it wasn't for the Inquisitors direcves in keeping him alive I would have let him die several mes by

now. He has a sickness in him that he wears as a second skin. He posively exudes an aura of wrongness around him. I suspect

that I could never like him no maer what he does. The Emperor must have plans for him. I spend my me praying again,

asking the Emperor for protecon and guidance. I hear no words and yet I become refreshed and invigorated once again. The

    Emperor is with me.

The Commander informs us some me later that the pirates have taken control of the service elevator and we should expect

more enemies soon. We posion ourselves in formaon around the li. The pirates appear once more, and we destroy every

one of them. Brawn, the Commander, myself and Grim Trauma make another heroic stand. I note that Brawn takes up a

defensive stance near me whenever we ght. He is a simple man, a brute. Strong, tough and very resilient.

Aer the bale Brawn and I talk. I ask him of his faith in the Emperor. He replies with a distorted and slightly herecal view of

the Emperor. He refers to him as the Sky-god, and he tells me his tribe gained the knowledge of the Emperor through the

G member Glen Taylor, shows o some Ye Olde Chaos gures from the early edion of Warhammer Fantasy. He has

o posted these on a Facebook page called Oldhammer. Glen has tons of gures so it is good to get to see some of his

tures. Its really worth a look at the Oldhammer group page for an idea of what was around in miniatures back then,

maybe for you it might just be a nostalgic stroll down memory lane. On the pages following are a selecon of minia-es from the Editors cabinet, highlighng Necromunda, WH40k followers of Nurgle, Blood Angels and an old Rogue

Trader survivor. The Necromunda Gangers were painted by

Simon Mayes with Humbrol paints. He charged $2 per gure

and it was worth every cent.

Glen apologised for the blur on the one above, but its good

    enough for me...

LOKA is a fantastically sculpted Chess sets and a brand new takeon playing Chess, brought to you by River Horse.LOKA is played with fantasy-inspired Chess pieces, each evokingthe powerful imagery of one of the four elements. At its heart, LOKA uses the rules of Chess, and Alessio has somesignificant twists in mind in the form of new mechanics:Choose your army - Each player get to choose which pieces theyput onto the board, meaning both players command different ar-mies on the battlefield do you field a small but elite force withthree Queens, or do you go for a mass horde of Pawns?

Fantasy Scenery Change the shape of the battlefield with move-ment blocking terrain that alters the path youll take into combat.Dice Driven Combat a simple and elegant system using eightsided dice adds some unpredictability to combat, placing extraemphasis on strategy and positioning as pieces build in powerwith support from their comrades."

uuro is the core of a new systemabstract war gaming, where youe in command of armies of chesseces. Differently from traditionaless, you are not forced to field a giv-

set of pieces on the board, but canoose which pieces to field, based onur skill and tactical preferences. Thenovative gaming board features ter-n elements that change position eve-time you play, so that each game

roduces a different challenge.uuro is a game for two players, whicherges the precision and rigour ofess with the creativity and variety of

r-gaming.does so by attaching a points value to

ch traditional chess piece and allow-g the players to spend a predeter-ned amount of these points (say, aal of 800 points) to select the chess

my that they think makes the beste of the points. This creates a feelingownership towards the particular

mbination the player thinks is the

ost effective.e battle will then take place on a large chess board of twelve by twelve squares. This board, however, also introduces a new

d unique element to the game. Each of the four six-by-six quadrants of the board contains two plinths that block the move-

ent of the pieces. These plinths are placed randomly at the beginning of every game with the help of a dice, ensuring that

ery game will be different and present unique challenges. The plinths also help in balancing the game, restricting the move-

ent of Queens, Bishops and Rooks, while at the same time allowing Knights to land onto them and using them as defensive

sitions (as only an enemy Knight can take them while theyre there). It is worth noting that game box also includes a normal

essboard and full rules for traditional chess, making it good to learn chess and allowing players to engage in this great classic

    well as the innovative Shuuro.

Last week while some of the fellows were over, we set up a

game of Star Wars X-Wing. The four of us, Simon, Courtney,

Steven and myself rolled a single die each to determine who

would go rst in picking their ships, with a twist. Simon won

the roll. I then picked an Imperial and a Rebel movement coun-

ter and held one in each hand. Simon then picked a hand. He

and Courtney aer him both guessed hands holding the Rebel

Fleet counters, leaving Steven and I with the Imperial ones.

Then we ipped the movement counters over so that we all

had to choose, in the same order of dice rolling, what ships we

    would be controlling.

Most ships in the StarWars X-Wing game come with the opon

of four dierent pilots all with their own skills depending on

    their experience.

on picked an X-Wing with Wedge Anllies as the pilot and a

Wing piloted by Horton Salm. Courtney randomly selected

X-Wing piloted by Luke Skywalker and the Rebel freighter

    ted by Kyle Katarn.

ven picked the Tie Bomber and Slave 1 with pilots Major

mer & Boba Fe and I ipped my random picks to reveal an

anced Tie Fighter piloted by Soonr Fel and the Lambda

s Shule with Captain Kagi as the pilot. We took no extra

ds for these with the excepon of Steven taking bombs for

    bomber to which everyone agreed.

as in a surprisingly quick succession that my Advanced Tie

hter, and Simons two ships were taken out quite early in the

me. The Imperiums uncertainty of how good might Wedge

Anllies be, painted a Kill Now target on Simons ships. I

think it was only the Lambda Class shules high resilience

that allowed it to survive the center of the playing eld, as

it too took a lot of damage aer Soonter Fel Tie Intercep-

tor exploded. Stevens Slave 1 was not slow in taking hits

and dishing out the damage either.

Courtneys Rebel Freighter and Stevens Tie Bomber were

the next two gone, leaving only three ships on the table.

My Lambda Class was too far away and struggled to get

back into the nal ght. That le Slave 1 and Luke Sky-

    walker to ght it out.

Would Steves obsessive love of all things Star Wars, win

out against Courtneys love of Luke Skywalker?

With smoke pouring from its damaged hull and into the

void, it was Slave 1 whos gunre took the last piece of

material that was holding the X-Wing together. Courtneys

ship was destroyed. The Imperium had won the day.

    Zach Seib 30.09.79 -17.02.14

I rst met Zach in April 2013, when my gaming group was recruing players for Fantasy

Roleplay. My son, Darian had said that he had a friend from work who was very keen to

play. When Zach came over that day, for someone both new to the group and to Fanta-

sy roleplay, he just sloed in with the other gamers like he had always been there. He

quickly became a rm friend of the group.

If something funny was to happen in roleplay it usually

happened to Zach. I smile as I remember how in going

through the underground sewers of a parcular town,

that he was the rst to fall into the sewage. Anotherme when ghng a vampire on a riverboat, Zach

jumped into the hold from the deck of the riverboat to

challenge the vampire, only to slip on the face of that

boats captain that the vampire had ripped o, and

begin the ght on his back. He loved playing his charac-

ter in the game, and became a focal point in every ses-

sion that was to follow. Zach also loved the ideal of

fantasy roleplay and never missed a session of gaming

    since that rst day.

We supported his decision to Games master a dierent

type of roleplay on the opposite weekends,

where his games became so popular that ses-sions somemes ran into the early hours of the

    next day.

Zach was loud and he was opinionated, but it

was all about gaming, that Zach was so loud and

opinionated about. He was very passionate

    about gaming.

Zachs character in Warhammer fantasy roleplay

was that of a Noble, and Zach played his charac-

ter enthusiascally and encouraged the others

to do the same. His character was compassion-

ate, empathec, strong, creave, a leader, and

he never backed down when presented with a

    challenge.

It was as I came to know him beer was that

Zach was playing himself. He was the same No-

ble that he played as a character. He was too

young to go away, and he will be missed very

    much by all of us.

    I play Apocolypse, Warhammer Fan-

tasy Roleplay and 40k Roleplay, with

GGG, as well as the occasional

boardgame and Star Wars X-Wing. I

    was also introduced to Necromunda

and am elding an Esher gang.

I have a 3000 point Ogre army for

    Warhammer Fantasy and my sister

is currently painng up a smaller

1500 point Skaven army for me.

Im currently working on an Ork

army for 40k. Future projects have

me looking into building a Chaos

    Space Marine army.

As I am also into the remote control

hobby I will be aempng to createan Imperial Guard Valkyrie that ac-

    tually ies.

    I started gaming in 2008 when I

moved to Australia from New Zea-

land. My rst army were Warham-

mer Fantasy Dark Elves. I won my

    rst bale against Lizardmen.

My brother in law was my inuence

for table top gaming and my intro-

ducon to Fantasy, Mordhiem and a

taste of Warhammer 40k. My sec-

    ond Fantasy army were Beastmen.

I also started playing Mordheim and

    began collecng Mordhiem

    warbands. These were Dark Elves,

    Dwarf Treasure Hunters and Beast-

men. My table top gaming quiet-

ened, unl I found my way into the

    Garage Gamers Group through my

friend, Simon Machin. I then had a

    full intro into Warhammer 40k.
