1. DescriptionTheSKFTKTI20isadigitalcamerawithadvancedthermalimagingcapabilities.ItisidealforuseasaPredictiveMaintenance(PdM)tool.Thermographyisanon-invasivetechniqueandiswellsuitedformechanicalandelectricalinspections,energyconservationandplantsafetyactivities.TheTKTI20hasalargebacklit31/2”colorscreen,whichgivesaclear,sharpimageusinganyoftheeightcolorpalettes.Designedforeasyoperation,multipletemperaturescanbemeasuredandthedifferencesbetweenthemdisplayed.Otheradvancedmeasurementoptionsarealsoavailable.ImagescanbestoredasradiometricdataanddigitalimagesonthemicroSDcard(supplied).PowerfulPCsoftwaresuppliedwiththeTKTI20,allowstheimagestobefurtheranalyzedandtobeoptimizedforeaseofinterpretation.

2.2 Charging internal battery
• TheTKTI20’sbatterycanbechargedinthecamerabyconnectingthesupplied4-6VpowersupplyunitintotheMiniUSBportinthehatchofthethermalcamera(seefigure2).
• Thebatteryconditionindicatorappearsonthescreenwhentheimagerisswitchedon(seefigure3).
• AgreenLEDwillappearwhilechargingandturnredoncethechargeiscomplete(seefigure2).Afullychargedbatterywillapproximatelylast5hours.

3. Basic features of the SKF Thermal Camera TKTI 20
3.1 Hardware
TheTKTI20isdesignedforuseasahandheldthermalcamera.ThermalimagesarestoredonamicroSDmemorycard(suppliedsizeis2GB).TheseimagescanbetransferredtoaPCusingtheUSBcableprovidedorviaamicroSDcardreaderconnectedtothePC.PCsoftwareSKFTKTI20ThermalCameraSuiteisincludedforviewingandanalysisofsavedthermalanddigitalimages.

Rotatingthefocusringinaclockwisedirection(fromuserpointofview)focusestheimagesatshorterdistancesdowntoaminimumof30cm.Rotatingthelensintheoppositedirectionfocusestheimageratlongerdistancesuptoinfinity.

TheTKTI20canoperatefrom-10°Cto+250°C;thisistherangeofthecamera.Thespanisdefinedbytheminimumandmaximumtemperaturesonthescaleontherightsideofthescreen.Awiderspanwillgiveyoulessthermaldetails,whereasanarrowerspanwillgiveyougoodthermaldetailsbutalsoincreasesthenoiseintheimage.Youcanadjustitspositionwithintherange,thisisthelevelsetting.

WithDirectaccessbutton1youcanaccess:
a. Alignment (ifvisibleon :seeDirectaccessbutton2).
Asthevisibleandthermalcameraarenotco-axialthevisibleandthermalimageoftenneedtobealigned.Thisisusuallyrequiredwheninspectingobjectsatdifferentdistances.Itispossibletoalignthethermalandvisible(digital)imagesonlyon“Live”mode.Furtheradjustmentscanbedoneonthesavedimageswiththesoftware.

How to set Blending:
1. PressDirectaccessbutton2tolocatethecameraon/offoption andtogglethecentrebuttontoturnthecameraoptionon.
2. Blendingbetweenthedigitalandthermalimagebypressingthe up/downbuttons
3. Thiswillblendthetwoimagesonapercentagescale0%,25%,50%75%,100%andPictureandPicture(PiP).
4. BlendingisalsopossibleinPiPmode. Youcanadjustthepercentagebypressingtheleft/rightbutton.

Auto
Automaticallyadjuststheimagetoallowforthehighestandlowest temperatureinthescene.Usefulwhenstartinganimagerandswitchingtodifferentpartsofascene.
Manual
Theuserdefinestherangeoftemperaturestobedisplayed.Manualsettingisusefulwhentheuserwantstoexaminevariouspiecesofsimilarequipment.Inafixedtemperaturerange,anomaliesordiscrepanciescanbepreciselyhighlighted.
Setthespanusingtherightandleftnavigationbuttonandthelevel usingtheupanddownnavigationbutton.
Persistant Manual
Thespanandlevelsettingsareeitherselectedautomaticallybythecameraormanuallybytheuser.Ifthismodeisselected,thecamerastoresthelevelandspansettings.OnpoweringupthedefaultmodeisalwaysAuto,howeverselectingthepersistentmanualmodesetsthelevelandspantothelaststoredvalues.
Setthespanusingtherightandleftnavigationbuttonandthelevel usingtheupanddownnavigationbutton.

4.4.1 Menu Infrared Settings
Emissivity
Differentsurfacescanradiatedifferentamountsofinfraredenergyatthesametemperature.Thisdifferenceintemperaturemeasurementcanbecorrectedbysettingtheemissivityvalue.Theamountofinfraredradiationemittedbyasurfacedependsonbothitstemperatureanditsemissivity.Surfacesthataregoodreflectors(e.g.polishedmetal)arepooremitters,andsurfacesthataregoodemitters(e.g.humanskin)arepoorreflectors.Ablackbodyisdefinedasanobjectthatabsorbsallradiationfallingonitanditisaperfectemitterofradiation.
Theemissivityofasurface(usuallywrittenε)istheratiooftheenergyradiatedbythatsurfacetotheenergyradiatedbyablackbodyatthesametemperature.Foraccuratetemperaturemeasurements,theemissivityofthesurfacebeingmeasuredmustbeenteredintothecamera.Thisisdonebyenteringanumberintherange0.10(forpolishedchromium)to1.00(forablackbody).Anemissivitylookuptableisprovided,whichliststheemissivitiesofarangeofcommonmaterials.

Itisnotrecommendedthattemperaturemeasurementsbeattemptedwhenemissivityvalueslowerthan0.70arerequired,becauselargeerrorsarelikelyduetoreflectedradiationfromsurroundingobjects.
Setemissivityvaluebetween0.10and1.00formeasuringtemperature.Werecommendausualvalueof0.95.Emissivitycanbechangedafterwardinthesavedpicture.
PressingDirectaccessbutton3(εTable)givesatableofemissivityvaluesofcommonmaterialsfromwhichaselectioncanbemade.Ifmorethanonecursorisselected,itispossibletosetadifferentemissivityforeachcursorbypressingDirectaccessbutton3(Cursorε),pressingthesamebuttonagainwillgiveaccesstotheemissivitytable.
Palette (8 options)
Differentcolourpalettesareusefulinviewingobjectsandscenesfordifferentrequirements.Asasimpleruleofthumb,paletteswithalotofdifferentcoloursaremorehelpfulwhenlookingforhotspotsorcoldspots,whereaspaletteswithfewerandgraduallychangingcoloursaremoreusefulinviewingchangesoftemperaturesinasceneorobject.Werecommendthatyoufindthepalettewhichsuitsyoubest.ItispossibletochangethepaletteonthePCsoftware.

Reflected TemperatureThis is only applicable if an emissivity of less than 1 is selected.
Someoftheinfraredenergyseenbythecamerafromasurfacewithanemissivityoflessthan1.00isenergyreflectedbythebackground.Ifthereisahotobjectinthebackground,thiscanhaveasignificanteffectonthetemperaturemeasured.Byenteringareflectedtemperaturevalue,thecameracancorrectfortheeffectofthisreflectedbackgroundenergy.Usuallysettotheambienttemperature.

Integration. (1 low to 4 high.)Thecameranormallyoperatesataframerateof8Hz(i.e.theimageisupdated8timespersecond).Forviewingscenesinwhichthereisverylittletemperaturevariation,theimagemaybeimprovedbyintegratingoverseveralframestoreducethenoise.
Chooseanintegrationperiodfrom1(fast)to9(slow).Howeveritisrecommendedtokeepthevalueat1fornormaluse,highervaluescanbeusedwhenthecameraisheldsteadilyorfixedonatripod.
Interpolation. (On/Off.)Interpolationisonbydefaultasitsmoothestheimagetoprovideabettervisualimage.Turningitoffgivesamorepixelatedimage.Someusersmaywishtoobservethescenewiththeactualresolutionofthedetector.Theprocessorcalculatesthetemperatureofsub-pixelsandthereforedisplaysmorepixelsonthescreen.Thissettingdoesn’tchangeanythingtothetemperaturemeasurement.Actualresolutionis160x120.Byturninginterpolationontheresolutionisinterpolatedto320x240.

4.4.2 Menu Measurement Options
Thismenuenablestheselectionofoptionsfortemperaturemeasurements.ThesymbolsshownbelowindicatetheiconsshownforDirectaccessbutton1whenthevariousoptionsareselected.
Cursors
Uptofourmeasurementcursorscanbeselected.Whentwocursorsarechosen,thetemperaturesofbothcursorsandthetemperaturedifferencebetweenthemwillbedisplayed.WhenoneofthecursorsisselectedbyDirectaccessbutton1,itcanbemovedaroundonthedisplaybythenavigationbuttons.Iftwoormorecursorsareselectedthenindividualemissivityvaluescanbeassignedtoeachcursor.Whenanemissivitylessthan1.00isselectedforacursor,thenthatcursorflashesonthescreen.Theemissivityofcursor1isalwaysdisplayed.

Sequence recordThisoptionallowstheusertosaveimagestothemicroSDcard.Whensequencerecordingisselected,itispossibletosaveimagesevery05seconds,10seconds,20seconds,30seconds,1minute,2minutes,5minutes,10minutes,20minutes,30minutesand1hour.Thealarmsettingworksinconjunctionwiththetemperaturealarmfunction.Whenthetemperatureinthesceneexceedstheuserdefinedhighalarmthresholdtemperatureanimageissaved.Equallywhenthetemperatureinthescenegoesbelowtheuserdefinedlowalarmthresholdtemperatureanimageissaved.
