A Reflection of the Gospel from Living Liturgy 2018: When we are young we learn a list of “dos” and “don’ts”. Look both ways when crossing the street. Do show respect for your elders. Even the Old Testament had a list, which today we refer to as the Ten Commandments. Do not covet another’s belongings. Here again, learning the list and following it is rather easy and straightforward. It’s literally a checklist as to how to be good and honorable in God’s sight. But Jesus gives us a command in today’s gospel that supersedes all others. It is simply this: “love one another.” How much easier would it be to maintain a checklist, such as, going to church, celebrating the sacraments, fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. But the command Jesus invites us to an adult spirituality, no longer satisfied by keeping a list. We are not children who need to be told to help with cleaning up after dinner. We do this naturally out of love. And we likely do much more. As Jesus says in the gospel, his love for his friends reaches the point of laying down his own life for them. There is no boundary to what love calls us to do. We receive from him a command simple but demanding: “love one another.” Spring Fling Bingo: St. Peter Parish’s Spring Fling Bingo is today, May 6th, from 6-8 pm in the parish hall. See you there! 2018-19 Catholic Service Appeal (CSA): We are currently at 58% toward our goal. $12,303.00 has been pledged so far. The balance owed is $9,041.00 Please prayerfully consider what you are able to contribute. If you are unable to contribute, please return your pledge card marked “zero”. This counts as participating. There are envelopes at the entrances of church. Thank you to everyone who has pledged. St. Cyril’s Parish Picnic: We are planning our Parish Picnic which is Sunday, May 20th, after Mass. We are in need of prizes for bingo and games. There is a basket by the stairs in church for your donations. Please see the enclosed flyer. The Senior Mass is also on May 20th, for all students graduating from high school and college. Parish Hall Usage: Any organization using the parish hall for their event, needs to do their own set up, clean up and put hall back in order as they found it. If they need to hire Jim Porubsky to help them, they are responsible for paying him. Faith Formation takes presidency. Mass and Potluck for Shawna Gruca: Will not be held on May 12th. It will be rescheduled at a later time. However, we are continuing to have a card shower to encourage Shawna in her illness. A box is in the main entrance of the church as well as some envelopes. A picture of Shawna and her family is also there. Your prayers and cards are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
