Sister Marie John Jimenez, S.C., who taught Spanish for 28 years at the Col- lege of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx, died Aug. 10 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 86. Sister Marie John taught at the Col- lege of Mount St. Vincent, 1971-1999. She taught at Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1966-1971; St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, Staten Island, 1965-1966; Blessed Sacrament High School, Manhattan, 1963-1965; St. Stephen, Manhattan, 1956-1963; and St. Athanasius, the Bronx, 1954-1956. Following her retirement from teaching, she served as a volun- teer at Mount St. Vincent Convent, the Bronx; St. Joseph Family Health Center, Yonkers; and the College of Mount St. Vincent. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1951 and professed final vows in 1959. She earned three degrees in Span- ish: a bachelor’s from the College of Mount St. Vincent, a master’s from Hunter College, and a doctorate in from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 14 in the Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers. Sister Dorothy Golden, O.P., a mem- ber of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blau- velt for 62 years and a long-time child care worker, died July 24. She was 83. A native of New York City, Sister Dor- othy served in the children’s cottages at St. Dominic’s Home in Blauvelt, 1959- 1972, and taught at Holy Cross School, Manhattan, 1972-1984. She ministered at the Good Counsel Cardinal Cooke Home, Spring Valley, 1988-1989, and served as a supervisor at Assumption Academy Marian Child Care Center in Emerson, N.J., 1989-2007. She also worked in the Christmas gift shop at her order’s motherhouse in Blauvelt from 2008 until her retire- ment in 2012. Sister Dorothy entered the Sisters of Dominic in 1956 and professed final vows in 1964. She held a bachelor’s of science in education from Dominican College in Blauvelt. Ms. Bosco is a math major pursuing education certification at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, and Ms. Sulit is an associate professor of English at the college. St. Dominic founded the Dominican Order, and Mount St. Mary College was founded by the Dominican Sisters. Ms. Bosco and Ms. Sulit visited France with students and staff from other Dominican colleges. They visited Fanjeaux and enjoyed a brief stay in Paris. “The most emotional aspect of our trip was the farewell dinner,” Ms. Bosco said. “I was not ready to part ways with my new friends, but it was clear that the bond we created in the short time together would bring us together some day.” The pilgrimage was sponsored by Mount St. Mary College and the Dominican Sisters of Hope in Ossining.
