From the School Nurse
Flu season is upon us! Influenza causes more hospitalizations among young children than any
other vaccine-preventable disease. The single best way to protect against seasonal flu and its
potential severe complications is for children to get a seasonal influenza vaccine each
year. Flu vaccination is recommended for all children aged 6 months and older. You may also
contact your physician or local health department for additional information on the flu and
upcoming flu clinics. Making healthy choices at school and at home can help prevent the flu and
spreading it to others.
Visit www.flu.gov for more information.
**ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS**
It is time to start preparing for next school year! All students entering 12th grade in the fall of
2020 will be required to have at least one dose of the meningococcal vaccine (two if your first
dose was given before your 16th birthday).
Avoid any last-minute rush trips to see the doctor; get vaccinated now. Don’t forget to submit
proof of your vaccination to the school nurse as soon as you get it, too!
Go Indians!

Career/College Fair: The annual Career/College Fair took place on Friday, Feb. 14. Students
participated in a broad array of activities related to future opportunities. The junior class toured
Waubonsee Community College and learned important information about their community
college options. The sophomore class visited local businesses, including Henderson Engineering,
Meadowvale, MTH Pumps and Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital, to learn about
career possibilities. Freshmen engaged in a career activity called Claim Your Future, where they
learned how to work within a monthly budget and about how income and debt function together.
Seniors served as leaders and had the chance to work on scholarships and learn about
employment options. All grade levels attended the fair in the gym, where they interacted with
college, business and military reps. Kudos to Ms. Vida Martin for planning and executing an
outstanding event!

2020 U.S. Census Information The U.S. Census event will take place this spring. The census is a count of all people living in
the United States and takes place every 10 years. For the first time, one can respond online and
will receive a unique identifying number in the mail. The online feature begin this month. The census is important because it helps decide how much federal money our schools will
receive over the next 10 years, and how much money our state will receive for parks,
neighborhood improvements, public health, transportation and many other programs and
services. Counting For Dollars 2020: Illinois Fact Sheet https://www.isbe.net/Documents/Census-Dollar-Allocations.pdf ISBE’s Census Info https://www.isbe.net/Pages/census.aspx Illinois 2020 Census Info https://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=117935
Health Requirements
Attention All Juniors: Immunization Requirements: All 12th-graders are required to show
proof of having received two (2) doses of the meningococcal vaccine unless the first dose was
given on or after the student’s 16th birthday.
All health requirements are required to be completed and on file with the school nurse by
the first day of school in the fall. No student will be allowed to attend school until this
requirement is met.
It is not too early to begin preparing for the next school year. It is recommended that you get

healthcare providers, health departments and many pharmacies offer this vaccine.
Please contact Mrs. Gonzalez, the school nurse, if you have questions.

Re: 2020-2021 Registration Season
It is that time of the school year again to begin the online registration where you have the
ability to update your family information all online. This system can be accessed through
your current Tyler Parent Portal link where you are checking grades, lunch account balances
and any other fees that have been or need to be paid.
Once you have signed into your Parent Portal, you will see a link for Online Registration as
shown in the example below.
Once you have accessed the area, you will see a list of the forms to be completed. Once you
begin the process, the system will continue to the various forms after each completion. Please
remember to put a ‘check’ in the box at the bottom of each form indicate that you have
‘completed’ that form. Once ALL of the forms have been completed, you will then be able to
electronically ‘submit’ your family’s school registration.
There are ‘electronic’ signature boxes where you & your child will be asked to ‘check’ a box
or select ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. This signature is the same as if you were completing the form
manually & signed the form with a pen.
As was last year’s registration season, the default method of registration will be electronic or
online. If you are not able or do not have the ability to use this method, you will need to
contact your attendance center for a printed form to fill out or you can print the forms from
If you do not have a Parental Portal account setup, please contact your child’s
attendance center and they will be happy to assist you. You will need to provide them
with a valid email address.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at 815-786-

Dear Parents & Friends of Sandwich Schools:
In 1994, the Sandwich C.U.S.D. #430 Foundation for Educational Excellence was formed.
The purpose of the Foundation has been to support, promote, supplement, and enrich the
educational programs and activities of students; and to develop links with businesses and civic
organizations. Since 1994, the Foundation has carried out its mission extremely well. Due to the
efforts of the Foundation and its many benefactors, programs have continued to be enhanced
throughout the district. Teaching and learning opportunities have been strengthened while
community support for our schools continues to be generated.
Although the Sandwich CUSD #430 Foundation for Excellence works in close communication
with the Board of Education, it is completely independent of the Board of Education. Foundation
funds are obtained from individual and corporate tax deductible contributions, as well as through
other planned fundraising activities. Due to your continued generosity over the years, well over
$375,000 has been raised to help supplement positive programs and services for our students.
Spending decisions will be made by the Foundation leadership which is a Board of Trustees
made up of local parents and citizens. Your involvement as a Board of Trustees member is
welcomed and encouraged. As a matter of fact, the Foundation is very much in need of new
members, so please consider serving. With your busy schedules, please know serving is not very
time consuming.
Presently, the Board of Trustees has been making plans for their annual fund raiser. The
Foundation will be holding its annual fundraiser on April 18, 2020 at the Fox Valley Community
Services Center in Sandwich with doors opening at 6:00 pm. This year’s event will again be a
Casino Night and Silent Auction. Since the event is a fundraiser, guests won’t be winning real
money at the tables. Instead, they will earn prize tickets which will give them a chance to win a
variety of prizes.
The silent auction will run from 6-9 pm where guests will be able to bid on a wide variety of
prizes donated by the schools, local businesses, and the community; and the casino will run
from 7-10 pm.
Appetizers and a light dinner will also be available during the event. Tickets for the event are
$25. Tickets may be purchased online at: https://squareup.com/store/sandwich-education-
foundation
Please feel free to contact the SEF for more information, to purchase tickets, or to make a
donation. Should you have questions, the Board of Trustees can be reached at:

Rick Schmitt

Senior Parents: It is time to remember those graduates with a
personalized ad in their 2020 yearbook!
Traditionally, senior parents have placed words
of congratulations, encouragement, or
remembrances in the yearbook for their senior.
These ads are in all color and allow you to include some of your favorite pictures of your
senior (a baby picture, an embarrassing middle school photo, and/or a graduation picture).
Ads are due by Friday, April 17th so get your pictures together and write your words of love
to your graduate. For ideas, you may want to look at a previous yearbook or see samples
below.
Actual photos stay in building and will be scanned and immediately returned to you. If you
have jpeg images, they can be mailed to [email protected] along with
instructions.
Prices and the order form are attached. Address questions to shsyearbook430.gmail.com.
