PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN: IN HONOR OF PARSHAT BEREISHIT

When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon as the first man to do so, much of the Charedi community was dis-

tressed. How could it be, they asked, when we just recited last week for 8 days in succession, Psalms (116:16)

“The Heavens are Hashem’s and the earth He has given to mankind.” How could man trespass on His do-

main? The Rav zt”l answered with the understanding of the Ramban on the opening verse of Bereishit. The

term, “Heavens and the earth” refer to two domains, Heavens – literally a world of spirituality where He and the

angels dwell, and earth – everything else that affects man, including the sun, moon, galaxies and stars. Man’s

quest for space exploration is included in the Divine charge of (1:28), “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth, and

so do it.” When man flies in a plane up in the clouds, we might call it sky but he is still in the realm of earth.

The Early Learners are learning about light and dark and the Infant/toddler class is getting a head start on Parshat Noach, with a unit on their favorite ani-mals. The Young Explorers are focusing on opposites, including light and dark and day and night. They learned that Hashem created the world in 7 days and had fun counting to 7 with some cool black and white discs. Welcome Back and Shabbat Shalom!
