restroom break. Serve the snacks. Pray, thanking

God for the snack and for each child in attendance.

Remind the children to throw away their trash.

MOVE TO GROUP TIMEMOVE TO GROUP TIMEChallenge the preschoolers to pretend to walk along

a road to get to the group-time area.

TALK ABOUT THE BIBLE STORYTALK ABOUT THE BIBLE STORYOpen your Bible to Genesis 37; tell the Bible story.

• Joseph lived in a family with ten older brothers

and one younger brother. Jacob, Joseph’s father,

loved Joseph very much. Joseph’s brothers were

angry with him because he told his father about

something they did wrong.

• Joseph’s father gave him a special coat made of

many colors. When his brothers saw the coat,

they became even angrier. They were jealous of

Joseph’s coat.

• Once, Joseph dreamed dreams that showed he

was more powerful than his older brothers. He

told his brothers about the dreams. The brothers

thought that Joseph believed he could rule over

them.

• One day Joseph’s father sent him to check on his

brothers who were minding the sheep. When

the brothers saw Joseph coming, they decided

to harm Joseph. They took his coat and put

him in a well. When some traders came by, the

brothers sold Joseph to them as a servant.

• The traders took Joseph to Egypt and sold him

to a man named Potiphar.

SING TOGETHERSING TOGETHERTo the tune “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” sing:

Oh, what do you do,

When you are so scared?

Oh, what do you do,

When you are so scared?

When you are so scared,

You can talk to God.

When you are so scared,

You can talk to God.

SAY THE LIFE VERSESAY THE LIFE VERSEOpen your Bible to the Life Verse and read: “God

will never leave you. Hebrews 13:5.” Say one or two

words at a time and lead the children to repeat after

you. Recite the verse two more times. Tell them to

give a high five when saying God.

PRAYPRAYPray, thanking God for keeping us safe.

BIBLE-LEARNING ACTIVITIESBIBLE-LEARNING ACTIVITIESAs the children work at each activity, emphasize

that God is always with us.

A. Make a paper plate mask. Review the Bible

story, emphasizing that Joseph was happy

when he received a special coat from his

father. Note that his brothers were jealous.

Give each child a paper plate, markers, and

a clothespin. On one side of the plate, the

children will draw a happy face. On the other

side, ask them to draw an angry face. Attach

a clothespin to the bottom center of the

mask to use as a handle to flip the mask from

one side to the other. Tell the Bible story as

the children flip their masks to match the

emotions in the story.

B. Set the scene. Mention that God was with

Joseph even during hard times. Invite the

kids to help set the scene for the story. Set

up a path using sticky notes leading from

one part of the room to another. Make Bible

times figures by wrapping and taping tissue

pieces around clothespins. Place one figure

(Joseph) at one end of the road and 11 figures,

along with cotton balls, at the other end to

represent Joseph’s brothers and the sheep.

After setting the scene, tell the story.

C. Work family puzzles. As the children

complete the puzzles, tell the Bible story.

Talk about Joseph’s family. Mention that God

wants us to know that He will never leave us.

State that God was with Joseph even when his

brothers were cruel.

line at the other end. Each child will pretend to be

a sheep by crawling from one line to the other with

a few cotton balls (wool) on his back. The goal is to

get to the other side without losing any wool. When

each child gets to the finish line, ask him to tell

something from the Bible story.

to Genesis 39 and tell the Bible story.

• Joseph had been taken to Potiphar’s house in

Egypt to work as a servant. Potiphar was an

important officer in Pharaoh’s army.

• God took care of Joseph. God helped Joseph

become successful. Potiphar liked Joseph, and

soon he became Potiphar’s helper. Potiphar put

Joseph in charge of his whole house and all his

business. Potiphar trusted Joseph. Potiphar did

not have to worry about anything. God blessed

Potiphar’s house because of Joseph.

• Potiphar’s wife liked Joseph, too. She wanted

Joseph to make a wrong choice. But Joseph said

no. So Potiphar’s wife told a lie about Joseph to

Potiphar. Even though Potiphar trusted Joseph,

he believed his wife. He sent Joseph to Pharaoh’s

prison.

• Joseph was in prison with Pharaoh’s prisoners.

God cared for Joseph, even in prison. The head

of the prison liked Joseph and put him in charge

of the other prisoners.

• Two of the prisoners were Pharaoh’s cupbearer

(brought drinks to Pharaoh) and baker (baked

Pharaoh’s bread). Each of them had a dream and

wanted to know what the dreams meant. Joseph

said, “God will help me know what they mean.”

• The cupbearer dreamed that he took grapes

from a vine and squeezed them into Pharaoh’s

cup. Joseph told him his dream meant he would

get his job back. The cupbearer was happy.

Joseph asked the cupbearer to remember him

when he returned to his job. Then the baker told

his dream. He dreamed he was carrying three

baskets of bread on his head and birds were

eating the bread. Joseph said his dream meant

he would not continue to work for Pharaoh.

• In three days Pharaoh gave a party for all his

servants. The cupbearer got his job back, but

the baker did not. Everything happened just as

God had told Joseph. But the cupbearer did not

and paper. Ask the children to name people in

their families. They can draw pictures of family

members. Talk about Joseph’s family and

ways that Joseph was kind to his family. Note:

At this point in the year, 3s may draw straight

lines to represent their family members. Older

4s may draw circles with two lines under

the circle for the body. Accept each child’s

drawing, no matter what stage of drawing she

demonstrates.

B. Play family situations. As the preschoolers

play out family situations with play dishes and

dolls, talk about ways that family members

show love to one another. Talk about the Bible

story and say the Life Point: “Show kindness.”

C. Work puzzles about people. As the children

work the puzzles, say the Life Verse. Comment

that Joseph did good things for his family.

He forgave his brothers; he took care of his

family; he helped his family. Comment that

preschoolers can do good things for their

families, too. Talk together about ways they

can show kindness.

D. Play follow-the-leader. Guide the children

to line up behind you. Instruct them to do

what you do as you lead them around the

room. Lead with motions such as patting your

head, clapping your hands, marching, taking

tiptoe steps, walking very slowly, and so forth.

After you have traveled around the room a

time or two, lead the children to sit with you

as you review the Bible story.

CLEAN UPCLEAN UPWalk around the room and assign a cleanup task to

each child. Play music, if available, as the children

clean. Thank them for their help.

NAME A FRIENDNAME A FRIENDSay: “I see a friend at church. My friend is wearing

blue pants and a red shirt.” Children can guess

whom you are describing. After they name the

friend, describe someone else. Continue playing

until each child has been described.

DISMISSDISMISSMake sure the children have gathered all of

their personal belongings. Greet each parent.

Distribute the Kids Activity Page. Point out the One

Conversation™ and explain its use for family Bible

study this week.
