Stephen Ministry Sunday
Service for the Lord’s Day 3rd Sunday after Pentecost
A.D. June 10, 2018 – 8:30 a.m. We’re here today because God has searched for and found us, as he did Adam and Eve, hiding in the Garden of Eden. Our Maker loves us and offers us lavish forgiveness. Welcome, friends.
GATHERING TO WORSHIP GOD
PRELUDE “God Is Calling Through the Whisper” Lee WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS (Please sign and pass the Fellowship Pad.)
MINUTE FOR MISSION Stephen Ministry Sue Sedam *CONGREGATIONAL INTROIT (Hymn No. 1 vs. 1) “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!” Rev. 4:8-11
*CALL TO WORSHIP
Care Receiver: I feel so overwhelmed that I don’t even know what to say or how to pray.
Stephen Minister: God knows your needs, even when you don’t know how to express them.
Congregation: The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to
pray as we ought. (Romans 8:26)
Care Receiver: I don’t want to bother you with my problems.
Stephen Minister: You have a very heavy burden and I’m here to help you.
Congregation: Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the
law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
All: O God, you lift heavy burdens from us. As your community of
faith, we come before you in the hope of the Resurrection of
Jesus Christ. We worship and praise your name, knowing that
your yoke is easy and your burden is light.
*HYMN No. 720 “Jesus Calls Us” Galilee
REMEMBERING OUR BAPTISM
CALL TO CONFESSION
God calls the church to follow him, and be a caring presence; standing by those who suffer and whose burdens are heavy, so that they may find healing in their brokenness. Let us confess the ways in which we do not follow God’s call.
CONGREGATIONAL CONFESSION
One: O God, you bring healing to the hurting.
All: Forgive us when we turn a blind eye to those in need.
One: You walk alongside us, regardless of our sin.
All: Forgive us when we stand in judgment of others.
One: You support the downtrodden and protect the stranger.
All: Forgive us when we shut out those who are not like us.
One: You listen to our prayers and attend to our deepest needs.
All: Forgive us for speaking, when we need to listen.
One: You call us to be in community with one another.
All: Forgive us when we do only that which satisfies our selfish desires.
One: You show us your love through Christ, your son.
All: Forgive us when we fail to love others as you love us. God, forgive us when
we do not follow the example that you gave us in Christ. . Grant us your
grace, and transform us, so that we may be one in Christ and in communion
with each other.
SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
ASSURANCE OF PARDON Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
*THE PASSING OF PEACE
Leader: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. To this peace we are called as members of a single body. The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.
(The congregation is invited to greet one another with words and signs of peace.)
*GLORIA PATRI (Hymn No. 581)

Stewardship is a part of what we do about what we believe.
OFFERTORY
* DOXOLOGY (Hymn No. 37) Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving
To God our Creator triumphantly raise;
Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
By guiding us on to the end of our days.
We, too, should be voicing our love and rejoicing
With glad adoration, a song let us raise;
Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving,
To God in the highest, hosanna and praise.
CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION
This is an opportunity for all of us to seek the Lord. Communion is an occasion for all baptized Christians to meet with their Savior by faith, to be strengthened and renewed by him, and to celebrate him. All who trust alone in Christ as Savior and Lord, are at peace with their neighbor, and seek strength to live more faithfully, are welcome to come forward. If you are not a Christian, or if you choose not to share in this meal, we invite you to spend this time in prayer.

STEPHEN MINISTRY / WHEN MY MOM DIED . . .
“I needed someone to listen to me as I told her history and nurtured my memory of her. I needed someone to listen to all that we were to each other. I needed someone to let me be angry, to let me be sad, to let me cry. Now I know where I could have found someone who would have been there just for me. Stephen Ministry.”
Contact one of our Pastors or Stephen Ministry referral coordinator to see whether Stephen Ministry can help you.
