GOD’S GIFT FOR GIVING
2nd Sunday Ordinary Time $ 6, 126. 68 Last Year $ 8, 255. 00
When we begin a new challenge, we oftenhave a great deal of energy andenthusiasm. As time goes on and thechallenge becomes tedious and ordinary or,worse yet, when difficulties show up, our
energy drops and enthusiasm is gone. When this happensto us – and it does, often! - what do we do? We becomeannoyed, get angry, certainly ask ourselves, “Is it worthit?” And sometimes we just quit. How true this is of ourresponse to the call to be disciples of Jesus! When we aretempted to quit following Him because of frustrations, thisis the time we need to fall back on our relationship withChrist who alone can sustain us. Without a firmrelationship with Him, we cannot remain faithful. Wedeepen our relationship with Christ in many ways:participation in Sunday Mass, daily prayer, interaction withother followers of Christ and works of charity. Our energyfor discipleship is sustained by encounters with Christ inthese practical ways.

LITURGY CORNERThe color of green in the Church tells usthat we are back in Ordinary Time. Theother day someone asked, “Does OrdinaryTime mean something special? Actually, theword “ordinary” does not mean routine, but
“counted” time. We enter into these 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Sundays...all counted one after another. This year ourWinter Ordinary Time will be for 5 weeks until we enterinto the season of Lent. Summer and Fall Ordinary Timecomprises the longest portion of the Liturgical Year, covering almost six months of the Calendar. OrdinaryTime challenges us with the demands of building theKingdom. We listen to the Word of God which keepsreminding us of our call as Christians to internalize theteachings of the Lord and to live out what we proclaim. Have a blessed week! Lisa
FAITH AT HOMESometimes it’s hard to find different ways ofhelping our children “Live Their Faith”in ourdaily lives. Here are some parents’ suggestions
from “At Home With Our Faith”: 1. “Do your best and letGod do the rest”. Sharon says this with her children everyday before school. She says the first part, and the childrenrespond with the second part. “If I don’t do it, the girlswill loudly exclaim, ‘Say it, Mama!’ as if they can’t leavethe car and go into school without it,” Sharon says. 2.“What’s one way you helped someone today?” Nancyand Scott ask this question almost every evening atdinner in order to emphasize to their children that serviceto others is an important part of life. 3. “Let the HolySpirit nudge you today”. Maria says this before droppingoff her children at school to remind them to be open toGod’s movement in their lives. 4. “God bless Max. Bewith him during his math test”. John traces a cross on theforehead of each of his children before bed, with ablessing for an upcoming event. There are so manydifferent ways we help our children to remember theirfaith, not only when they are in church or ReligiousFormation, but in the school year, in their sporting eventsor even on a play date. If there is something you do withyour children and would like to share it with otherparents, please feel free to email me and I would behappy to do additional suggestions of ways to “Live ourFaith” from our own parish family. Whatever you choose todo with your family, is a wonderful witness to your children, especially during this Jubilee Year of Mercy.Enjoy your week! Lisa
