Parish Priest’s Email Address: [email protected] Twenty-Sixth Sunday In Ordinary Time 28th / 29th September 2019 Toward a New Parish Unity – Stanley River and Caboolture Parishes On 18 th and 19 th September there was held respectively both a Steering Committee, and Dual Finance Committeesmeeting of our parishes. Important for the Steering Committee meeting were the issues raised by the community consultations held across our parishes in August and September, particularly in regard to the proposed mass schedules, the naming of the new parish, and issues of what needs to further occur, leading up to a January start date for the new parish. The Steering Committee spent a significant amount of time on developing a Weekend Mass Schedule. However, there are still a number of outstanding issues to be dealt with before this schedule can be published for our parishes. Hopefully, resolution will be forthcoming in the next few weeks. Further, the Committee chose a number of names for the new parish from the proposals offered by parishioners. These are: Caboolture Parish (Historical reasons going back 125 years; recognising this does not mention places other than Caboolture) St Mary MacKillop Parish (Heritage of the Sisters of St Joseph, and as the first Australian saint) Living Waters Parish (Refers geographically to the fresh waters of the Stanley and Caboolture rivers as well as the salt waters surrounding Bribie Is. The name also calls forth a hope that the amalgamation brings a renewed and vibrant blessing in the faith of all parishioners) Heart of Jesus Parish (it is suggested that along with Living Watersabove, this name draws upon John 7:38 [Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: Rivers of living water will flow from within him.]), which has connections in both OT (Ex 17:6; Nm20:11; Ez 47:1; and NT Jn 3:5). You can have your further say as to your preference from the above names. Please see the lists offered at the entrance to the Church. These preferences will be collated and presented to Archbishop Mark for his approval. The Dual Finance Committeesmeeting was brought up to date with the progress of the Steering Committee, also given an overview of the processes of parish unification from Liz Sherratt, Archdiocesan Development Fund Relationship Manager for both our parishes, and further considered the next steps necessary for the financial unity of the new parish. This group will meet again on 29 th October to consider a fuller view of the financial situation of the new parish. There are certainly challenges in the our becoming a new parish. However, we might take direction from Pope Francis. There is a temptation for parishes, when facing challenges to withdraw into safe strongholds. What the Pope calls for is something quite different. The vision of a parish from Francis places before us has nothing to do with timidity, but everything to do with holiness. He writes, The parish is the presence of the Church in a given territory, an environment for hearing Gods word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration. In all its activities the parish encourages and trains its members to be evangelizers.Let us ask the Lord to bless all our parishes with this missionary spirit and particularly the formation of our own! Twenty-Sixth Sunday In Ordinary Time

28th / 29th September 2019

Toward a New Parish Unity – Stanley River and Caboolture Parishes

On 18th and 19th September there was held respectively both a Steering Committee, and Dual Finance Committees’ meeting of our parishes. These are:

Caboolture Parish (Historical reasons going back 125 years; recognising this does not mention places other than Caboolture)

St Mary MacKillop Parish (Heritage of the Sisters of St Joseph, and as the first Australian saint)

Living Waters Parish (Refers geographically to the fresh waters of the Stanley and Caboolture rivers as well as the salt waters surrounding Bribie Is. The name also calls forth a hope that the amalgamation brings a renewed and vibrant blessing in the faith of all parishioners)

Heart of Jesus Parish (it is suggested that along with “Living Waters” above, this name draws upon John 7:38 [Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: ‘Rivers of living water will flow from within him.]), which has connections in both OT (Ex 17:6; Nm20:11; Ez 47:1; and NT Jn 3:5). You can have your further say as to your preference from the above names. Please see the lists offered at the entrance to the Church. These preferences will be collated and presented to Archbishop Mark for his approval.

The Dual Finance Committees’ meeting was brought up to date with the progress of the Steering Committee, also given an overview of the processes of parish unification from Liz Sherratt, Archdiocesan Development Fund Relationship Manager for both our parishes, and further considered the next steps necessary for the financial unity of the new parish. This group will meet again on 29th October to consider a fuller view of the financial situation of the new parish. There are certainly challenges in the our becoming a new parish. However, we might take direction from Pope Francis. There is a temptation for parishes, when facing challenges to withdraw into safe strongholds. What the Pope calls for is something quite different. A Special Mass will be celebrated at 9.15am on Tuesday 1st October at Little Flower (there will be

no evening Mass) Our Hospitality Ladies will serve morning tea afterwards. Please join us.

This weekend, we celebrate the dedication and sacrifice of members of the Police Force, particularly those who have given their lives in the line of duty. May they rest in peace.

Please note there will be no masses this coming Friday

across the Parish as both our Priests will be attending the

Brisbane Assembly. As staff along with members of the

Pastoral Council are joining them the Office will be closed

on this day.

Names For Our Parish

As Fr David mentioned on the front of the newsletter, we now have four possible names for our new Parish. We now invite you to choose the

“Take This All Of You And Drink From It”

The practice of Intinction is not adopted across our Parish

but rather we encourage you to ‘receive’ from the cup

in unity with your fellow Parishioners.

Yes, God maybe calling you—but probably not on your mobile! Please remember to switch your phone off or onto silent

before Mass begins; it can be very distracting to those around you.
