LAKESIDE LUTHERAN NEWS

“Changes at Lakeside” We are pleased to announce that Kayla Chastik will be heading up our Sunday School program this year at Lakeside. Kayla is one of our own as she attended Sunday School and was confirmed at Lakeside. Kayla was also active in the KFC (Kids for Christ) program and she participated in several mission trips over the years. After graduating high school from Spooner, Kayla attended college at U.W. Superior where she earned a degree in music and education. We are very excited to have Kayla back in the area and willing to head up the Sunday School program. We remain hopeful that we will be able to have in- person Sunday School beginning in September.

I would like to thank Laurie Lundeen for her many years of dedication to the youth program at Lakeside. Laurie poured her heart and soul into the youth program for many years and I give God thanks for her passion towards loving the kids of Lakeside. I do not believe there is anyone more excited to have Kayla on board than Laurie. Both Laurie and I are tickled pink that the youth ministry program has come full circle. Before we closed down the church building due to the pandemic, I was aware that we would need to find a person to coordinate the shepherding program when we reopened. I would like to thank Diane Roberts for her time served as the shepherding coordinator. Unfortunately, Diane’s health no longer allows her to continue as the shepherding coordinator. I thought long and hard as to who might have the skills to be the lead person of the shepherding team and the name that kept coming to my mind was Mick Peterson. Mick knows just about everyone at church and there are not many church activities that Mick has not participated in at one time or another. One of Mick’s main responsibilities will be helping new members find a shepherding month that is in the greatest need of help. I fully understand that most of our shepherding months could use more help, but some are in dire need of more people. As conveners, if you are unable to fill all of the slots for your month please talk to Mick and he will assist you in finding people to fill those slots. Thanks to Mick for his willingness to accept this important role in the ministry of Lakeside. God’s Peace, Pastor Bill

“Time to Celebrate!”

Please mark September 18th on your calendar as a day to celebrate the ordination of Scott Burns. Scott Burns has been called to serve the congregation of Ridgeland Lutheran. Scott will be ordained as a deacon by the bishop of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, Bishop Laurie Skow Anderson. The ordination service will begin at 2:00 pm and a time of fellowship will follow the service. The change of careers for Scott has been a long road but I give thanks for uniting Scott’s gifts together with the ministry of Ridgeland Lutheran. I would also like to give thanks to God for Patti as she has supported and walked this journey with Scott. It is going to be an awesome day! Since the bishop is coming to Lakeside I guess I better dig out my robe and red stole from the closet.

Shepherding Facilitator I have volunteered to be the Shepherding Facilitator for Lakeside. My job is to oversee Shepherding, working with the Conveners as needed. I am asking that if any Shepherding month needs additional volunteers to please go through me, Mick Peterson. I will help coordinate your needs. In the meantime, Brenda Wheeler, Vicki Wier, and Rhonda Schroeder have volunteered to update our 2020 Shepherding book. With your help and cooperation, let us continue to make shepherding a Hallmark Signature of the Mission of Lakeside. Yours in Christ, Mick Peterson

BAKELESS BAKE SALE! WELCA is conducting a Bakeless Bake Sale through September 27. THANK YOU to all who have donated so far! Although the Lakeside Women of the ELCA kept very busy with mission Activities during the pandemic, we were unable to have any fundraisers. Among other uses for our funds, we support a missionary in South Africa, ELCA world hunger, Christmas for Kids, and our quilting ministry. In other years we have also supported Restorative Justice, Faith’s Lodge, Inter Faith Care Givers of Burnett County, Regional Hospice (Spooner), ADRC of WI, and other local charities. WELCA also purchases all the Equal Exchange coffee used for Sunday fellowship and other social events at Lakeside. Proceeds enable local growers in third world countries to have a better way of life. Names of those donating will be put into a drawing for a beautiful quilt! Drawing will take place at the Retreat, September 27, at Luther Park Bible Camp (Danbury)

Lakeside Youth Ministry News

Lakeside Youth Ministry News Hello everyone! My name is Kayla and my sister, Natasha, and I will be teaching Sunday School this year. We started attending Lakeside in 2008 when our family moved to the area and have very fond memo-ries of Sunday School, youth group, pancake break-fasts, mission trips, and much more! We both taught Sunday School here when we were in high school.

Once we graduated, we moved away for college, but now we are both back in the area and ready to help the new children of the church create amazing memories just like we did! Natasha is currently studying Health and Wellness Management through UW-River Falls and had a son named Benjamin Robert on June 14th. Her boyfriend, Logan, just finished up schooling to become a diesel mechanic through CAT. He recently started working at CAT in Superior. I graduated from UW-Superior with a BA in Music and a minor in education. Now I am pursuing my Master’s in education through UW-Superior. I also had a son, Finnegan David, and he was born on May 21. My boyfriend, Brock, is cur-rently attending UW-Superior and will earn a BA in Music and a minor in Psychology. Brock will be helping with music for Sunday School as well. Benjamin and Finnegan were baptized on August 15th and we are looking forward to them growing up at Lakeside. Sunday School will begin on Sunday, September 12. We are excited to bring new ideas to the program and help the students in their spiritual journeys. Registration forms are available at the bulletin board in the hallway. There was an email sent out to the guardians of students who at-tended last year. If you have a student to register, would like to receive more information, or have any questions, please email Kayla at [email protected]. We are looking forward to an awesome school year!

God’s Work. Our Hands. On Sunday, Sept. 12, congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will join together for “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday.
