CRITERIA

• Nominees must have graduated at least ten years prior to the selection date. Individuals may be nominated posthumously.

• Nominations may be submitted by any Perry High School graduate, Perry community member or member of the Selection Committee.

There are three (3) categories of nominees eligible: 1. Athlete – an athlete’s class must have graduated at least ten (10)

years prior to selection. 2. Coach/Administrator – a coach or administrator must have served

on the Perry Schools staff for at least ten (10) years and must have retired or left the school system prior to selection.

3. Honorary – An alumnus or non-alumnus Perry resident may also be chosen for making a significant impact on the Perry Schools athletic program.

Kimberly graduated from Perry High School in 2004 and was a member of the basketball and softball teams, earning seven varsity letters in her career, four in softball and three in basketball. Kim was a shooting guard for the Lady Pirates basketball program and played a prominent role on the defensive side of the floor as well. During her three years on the team, she helped lead the program to three District Championships, including the first in the history of Perry girls basketball, as well as three Chagrin Valley Championships. She was named Player of the Week multiple times in both The Plain Dealer and The News-Herald during her junior and senior years and was a member of the Star Beacon All-Star game her senior year. On the softball team Kimberly played second base all four years while in high school and constantly maintained a batting average over the .300 mark. While Kimberly was on the softball team, they were Chagrin Valley Conference Champions all four years. She was also a member of the Star Beacon All-Star game her senior year. Despite being a student athlete, Kimberly remained focused on her

education at Perry High School and was valedictorian for the class

of 2004. She went to Kent State University where she received a

BA in Accounting in 2008 and MBA in 2009. She is currently a

certified public accountant and has served as the Corporate Audit

Manager at Sherwin Williams since 2016. Prior to this role she

worked at Cleveland Ernst and Young LLP for seven years.

Athletic Contributions Basketball: 2002, 2003, 2004 Softball: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004

During his time at Perry High School, Daniel was a 10-time varsity letter winner in Cross Country (4), Track (4), Basketball (1), and Swimming (1).

In Cross Country he was a four-time 1st team Chagrin Valley Conference winner, twice the CVC Champion (2007 & 2008), a four-time Regional Qualifier, and a two-time State Qualifier (2007 & 2008). In 2007, he was a five-time invitational champion, and runner up in two invitationals. After helping his team to a conference and district title in 2007, he went on to place 14th at the State Cross Country Championships earning All-Ohio status. Upon completion of the 2007 cross country season, he was voted The News-Herald Runner of the Year. In 2008, he again led his team to a conference and district title and helped them to the first ever state championship berth in school history, where they placed 6th.

On the track he was a three-time regional qualifier in the 800m (2007), 1600m (2009), and 4x800m (2009). He was a two-time state qualifier in track for the 800m and 4x800m, and currently holds the school records for those events.

Upon graduating from PHS, Daniel continued his running career at

the University of Akron. During his time at Akron, he was a two-time varsity letter winner in cross country and voted most improved runner upon completion of the 2010 season. Dan graduated from

Akron in 2014 with a degree in bio-medical engineering. He currently works as a contract engineer for a local company while he continues to exercise and coach cross country and track for PHS.

ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME HISTORY

The Perry Pirate Booster Club authorized the formation of a Hall of Fame Committee to honor Perry Athletes by developing a process to create an Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame.

In March of 1992, Perry Local Schools’ Board of Education authorized the concept of the Perry Pirate Booster Club. The Club selected a committee and developed the guidelines for how the Hall of Fame would be established. The policies and procedures were approved by the Booster Club in the spring of 1992.

A committee and public nomination procedure was put into place during the fall of 1992. In January of 1993, 65 individuals qualified to be placed on a ballot for voting by the committee. The first induction class of 21 former Perry athletes, coaches, or community contributors was selected in May of 1993 after receiving sufficient votes for induction. Since its inception, the Hall of Fame committee has inducted a total of 110 athletes, administrators, coaches and two teams.

It is our hope that Perry’s Athletic Hall of Fame not only honors the accomplishments of our inductees, but also serves to inspire future Perry High students to aspire to the accomplishments of those Hall of Famers who have built the fine tradition of Perry Athletics.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI HALL OF FAME HISTORY

In the spring of 2001, the Perry Board of Education established The Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame to honor former students of Perry High School whose lives are exemplary for both their career accomplishments and their contributions to the well being of others. They have been selected because they have distinguished themselves in their field of study, career or community service. In addition, these individuals will serve as an inspiration to the students of Perry Local Schools, encouraging them to live their dreams and to pursue personal excellence in all future endeavors.

The members of the charter committee of the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame began their work early that year. Their task was to establish the policies and procedures that would guide the future selection of all Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame inductees. These members were nominated by the Board of Education and represented a cross-section of school and community members.

After determining the nominating criteria and process, the final task of the Charter Committee was to recommend individuals to serve on the Selection Committee. This committee was also comprised of a diverse cross-section of people including representatives from the Perry Board of Education, the Perry Historical Society, school administration, staff, students, and community.

While competing at Perry High School, Lindsey was a four-year

varsity letter winner for the Perry Swim Program. Lindsey was a

three-year State Championship Meet qualifier, competing in both

relays, and the 100 breaststroke. She was a member of the 400

Freestyle relay that finished 3rd at the OHSAA State Championship

Meet in 2005. Lindsey was also a four-year District Meet

Qualifier in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Individual Medley, and

various relay events. Throughout her time at PHS, Lindsey set

school records in Breaststroke, Individual Medley, and three relay

events. Lindsey was an All-Ohio swimmer for three years, was

named an Academic All-American, selected as The News-Herald

and Plain Dealer Swimmer of the Week, and was Honorable

Mention All-CVC in all her events. She was a finalist at several

large area invitationals including the CSU Viking Invitational and

Canton Invitational, as well as an event winner while setting a

meet record at the Perry Invitational.

Following her time at Perry High School, Lindsey was a four-year

varsity letter winner at the College of Wooster Swim Program. She

was a four-year North Coast Athletic Conference qualifier and a

finalist or semi-finalist in all of her events at the NCAC meet as

well as the Wooster Invitational. She served as the women's team

Co-Captain at Wooster in 2008-2009.

Over his 36 plus year career for the Perry Local Schools, Coach D. served the district in many capacities. He was a teacher, coach and administrator on both the high school and middle school levels from 1975-2011. Over those years he taught health, physical education, computer science and maturation classes for the youth of Perry.

Mr. Dorko coached middle school wrestling, boys track and football. At the high school level, he coached football, boys basketball, and was the first ever girls track coach. John was also the Middle School Athletic Director and ended his career as the District Athletic Director.

While at the middle school, his teams had winning records and won many invitationals. As the high school basketball assistant, he helped guide teams to conference championships, district appearances and regional qualifiers. His girls track team finished third in the conference in the program’s first year.

As the District Athletic Director he oversaw teams that were conference champions in volleyball, football, cross country, boys and girls track, gymnastics, wrestling, boys and girls basketball, as well as district and regional qualifying teams and many individual state qualifiers and All-Ohio athletes.

Mr. Dorko also served as a tournament director for the Ohio High School Athletic Association in swimming, girls basketball, and cross country as well as hosting many football playoff games. He is still well respected among league and N.E. district athletic directors as well as throughout the state of Ohio.

TEACHER, COACH, ADMINISTRATOR

Dr. Jeffery M. Klco is a member of the Perry graduating class of 1994. Dr. Klco received his Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College and his doctoral degree from the Washington University School of Medicine. He currently works at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in their Pathology Department and at their Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. His research interests include genomic and functional characterization of acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes, using experimental approaches to studying signaling pathways in myeloid development, and using genomic information to improve the outcome and risk stratification of children with cancer. He has co-authored several publications regarding the genomic analysis of leukemia. Dr. Klco currently lives in Memphis, TN with his wife Heidi. They have 3 children (Owen-14, Jayna-12 and Teddy-8).

CLASS OF 1994

Mr. David Lyons, a graduate of Cedarville University and Capital Bible Seminary, is a member of the Perry graduating class of 1973. Mr. Lyons is currently International Vice President of The Navigators, an international, interdenominational, Christian ministry that builds mentoring or discipling relationships among Christ’s followers. The group equips members to make an impact on the people around them. At The Navigators, Mr. Lyons coaches leaders, leads change and oversees communications and networking of their 5,000 staff in over 100 countries. Mr. Lyons co-authored, Don’t Waste the Pain with his sister Linda Lyons Richardson (PHS 1968). Their book deals with finding comfort and discovering that God uses our pain in our spiritual formation. He currently lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Renee. They have seven children and eleven grandchildren.

CLASS OF 1973

As a freshman, Grace immediately proved that her swimming career would leave a legacy at Perry High School. In her very first season, she broke, and re-broke, nearly all the standing school records in Freestyle, Butterfly, the Individual Medley, and was the anchor for record breaking relays. With the help of Grace’s talents, Perry was able to take a swim relay to the OHSAA State Championships for the very first time in February 2003, where Grace also qualified individually in the 100 Butterfly event. In her subsequent years as part of the Perry Swim Program, she led the team as Captain for three years, continued to lower her personal best times and break her own school records. She also continued to qualify for the State Championship in Relays and in her individual Butterfly and Freestyle events. Grace anchored the 400 Freestyle relay team that finished third at the State Championships during her junior year. During Grace’s senior year she won first place in the Sectional championship for the 50 Freestyle, narrowly beating out the State Champion from Hawken. All in all, Grace holds five individual and three relay school records, all of which still stand today, thirteen years later. She was named MVP of the team, as well as The News-Herald and Plain Dealer Player of the Week all four years of her career. Grace went on to attend Miami University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2010. She married her middle and high school sweetheart, Kevin and has two beautiful children. Grace has worked for City Year, an education non-profit, since 2011 and has continued her love of fitness as a yoga, cycling, and strength instructor. Recently, she self-published her first children’s book.

Athletic Contributions Swimming: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006

Mark Lomasney was a teacher and a coach of multiple sports at Perry High School from 1977-1998. He was the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach for 20 years under Head Football Coach Bob Ritley, where the program compiled an impressive 150 wins versus only 49 losses during his time on staff. From a position standpoint, Coach Lomasney oversaw linebackers on the defensive side as well as centers and guards on the offensive side. Under his guidance and direction, eight of his players earned All-Ohio honors. Mark was the Head Wrestling Coach at Perry from 1978-1983. He was a two-time Grand River Conference Coach of the Year and in 1980 led the Wrestling program to the school’s first undefeated (11-0) dual meet season. The 1980 team also won six tournament championships that year, including the Orrville Tournament, which was billed at the time, as the Little State Tournament. Under his time as Head Coach, the wrestling program also produced the first three State Tournament Qualifiers in PHS history. Mark is a 1970 graduate of Mentor High School, where he was a

two-year letterman in both football and wrestling. He was later

inducted into the Mentor High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his

contributions to the Mentor Football program. In 1974, he

graduated from Grove City College where he was a three-year

letterman for the Wolverines football program.

Mark Lomasney

COACH

Jake was a three-sport athlete for Perry during 2001-2004. He excelled in all 3 sports, but his passion was baseball. In his first start as a Freshman pitcher, Jake threw a two-hit shutout against Kirtland. In his senior season Jake had a batting average of .491 with 10 home runs and helped the team advance to the Final Four. He was named The News-Herald Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Ohio selection in 2004, all while thriving in the classroom as an honor student at PHS.

Jake went on to attend St. Bonaventure University on a baseball scholarship where he was one of very few Freshman to ever have a batting average of .300 for the program. After that season he transferred to Tennessee Tech University (TTU) to continue his academic and athletic career. At TTU, Jake earned two All-Conference athletic selections and was a team captain for two years. Despite only playing three years at TTU, he finished 3rd in all-time hits for the program. He was also in the top 10 in numerous other offensive categories. Jake was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 36th round after his senior season and played in their minor league system. Jake earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing from TTU.

Jake currently lives in Nashville with his wife Amy, daughter, Lily

Kate and their dog, Brody. Jake works as an Analytics Consultant

for ServiceSource, a renewals specialist company. He does back

end database work, reporting, and analysis for fortune 500

companies around the globe.

Ray Phelps (1983) was an outstanding two-sport athlete at Perry

High School from 1979-1983. Ray was a three-year letterman and

a team Captain for the Perry Football program his senior year. That

same senior season Ray led the Pirate defense with 78 tackles and

an amazing 21 sacks to help propel the team to a 9-1 record and a

Grand River Conference Championship, the first ever conference

championship in the Bob Ritley era. Ray was named 1st Team All-

State for his performance at defensive end that year, was named

the Grand River Conference Most Valuable Player, and was

nominated for the Lake County Touchdown Club Award.

Ray excelled on the hardwood as well where he lettered for two

years as a Center and led the team in rebounding. Ray went on to

attend Slippery Rock University where he played football.

Kevin Siegel was a three-time letterman in Football and Basketball . He was also a three-sport team MVP his senior year in football, basketball, and baseball. In football he was the Chagrin Valley Conference MVP his senior year for a team that went 9-1 and won the CVC title, and qualified for the OHSAA playoffs. He was also the CVC MVP for basketball his senior year. The Pirates went undefeated in the conference and made it to the Regional Semifinals, which ties for the furthest the basketball team has gone in Perry history. The team also set the record for the most wins in a single season at Perry at 22. In both football and basketball Kevin was 1st Team All News-Herald, 1st Team All Lake County, 1st Team Plain Dealer, and All-State Honorable Mention. After high school Kevin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development in Family Studies. He continues to serve as an educator in Special Education. He is a counselor at Camp Sue Osborn which is a camp for children with special needs. He also works as an employee of Forever Green Nursery located in Perry.
