design - promoting healthy living

When it comes to pleasing customers, we tip our hats to an amazing group ofpeople who make up the largest part of the Guildford Town Centre team – our retailers.Ryan Hank, manager for Jersey City Canada at the centre said, “Everyone works together, from maintenance helping out on little tasks, to retailers helping each other out. The mall is very community-oriented, and you can see it as you walk the halls. It’s great to be part of it.”Trish Petrie has been manager of Black Bond Books Guildford for seven years, and said the changes in recent months at the centre have been amazing.“At the moment, I like to think of the mall as an adolescent, awkward, and unfi nished and not looking its best. But soon, all the changes will make sense and Guildford Town Centre will be revealed in a new, more mature and lovely form. It’s going to be great.”Adrien Cormier, manager of Sears for the last three years, loves the camaraderie at the centre.“Guildford Town Centre has made me feel like part of the team, from a simple hello, to helping me solve many issues that may come along in a simple, effi cient and timely manner. A big Sears WOW! to the team.”Stop by and say hello. From kiosks to large department stores, our retailers are open by 10am daily to welcome you.

message from the Guildford teamconstruction update

As part of our redevelopment, Guildford Town Centre is working towards LEED certifi cation in the new expansion phase.

Q: What does LEED mean?

A: It stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It’s a rating system for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

Q: Why is this important to Guildford Town Centre?

A: As a responsible corporate citizen doing business in Surrey, we strive to do everything possible to maintain a green and healthy community, for now and the future.

Q: What type of recycling does the centre do?

A: We already recycle everything from plastic bags, batteries and fl uorescent lamps to printer cartridges, scrap metal and drywall. Next year, we will add organics from the Food Court.

Q: What does the future of green hold for us?

A: With an eye on the future, we will be installing electric vehicle charging stations and more than 100 bike spaces.

Q: Do you recycle construction debris?

A: Yes! Ledcor works with all the trades to recycle or salvage at least 50 percent, and as much as 75 percent of the construction demolition and land clearing waste.

Diane Frew has been at McNaughton and Ward since 1981, and she has seen plenty of changes at GuildfordTown Centre, as well as within her industry. Remember thedays of the annual one-day insurance renewal? “Going back years ago, the insurance industry used to have one common expiry date, and we had people lined up right out the door,” Diane recalled.“We used to have a booth set up at the other end of the mall and security with us too,” she said, adding that clients used to walk in with cash, and staff would have to manage as much as a quarter million of that cash on the epic day.“In our offi ce, we would come in and John Ward, theprevious owner, would have us work 9am to 9pm. He’dbring in sandwiches and dinner, and we would just stay until it was done. It was pretty hectic.”Over the last 46 years, stores have come and gone, new additions have been added, and relocations have occurred – McNaughton and Ward used to have a real estate offi ce in the centre as well!

Frew said this is the most signifi cant redevelopment thecentre has ever seen. She believes customers are in for a wonderful surprise, and the potential of attracting newpeople to the centre has never been greater. “I love it. It’s so exciting!

Incorporating the organic feelof British Columbia’s naturalelements and celebrating healthy living is key to the overall design of the new Guildford Town Centre.

On the upper deck of our new parkade (located near Walmart Supercentre) we’reincorporating a nature walk that’s quickly taking shape.

Our no smoking policy isnow in effect on the property, and we’re complementing that with the planting of more than 900 oxygen-rich trees.

We have come a long way! It’s hard to believe the progress that has taken place since January 2012.This year has fl own by, and by mid-November:

the parkade, with the opening of two new permanent entrances.

As the resurfacing of our parking lot continues, directional signage is in place to help you fi nd the most convenient parking for your visit. This is the perfect time to start parking on the upper level of our new parkade, which offers amazing parking choices and its own convenient entrance off of 150th Street and 102A Avenue.

Each day brings us closer to completion, and we hope you’re as excited as we are to see our new look coming together.

We also thank you for your patience, and especially your patronage, while we grow into one of the fi nest super regional shopping centres in Canada.

Guildford Town Centre is proud to be a sponsor of the Surrey Eagles Junior “A”Hockey Club. If you are a hockey fan and would like to go to a game, visit

design - promoting healthy living

Any time a large shopping centre takes on a renovation of this magnitude, there’s naturally a readjustment period. We’re confi dent you will love the changes.

We know there are areas in and around the shopping centre that will be unfamiliar to you, however, we still have plenty of familiar faces and a diverse mix of retailers for all your shopping needs.

We can’t wait until our fi nishing touches are revealed.Still to come, an exterior plaza featuring a dramaticbasalt waterfall that will cascade from the upper tolower plaza, and a nature walk to promote healthy community living.Stop by and see Guildford Town Centre’s exciting transformation.
