WHAT A JOURNEY... by Darla Klaas, Manager, Waukesha County Senior Lunches—Brookfield

I have reached that time of my life when I have decided to retire. My last day will be Wednesday, November 27, 2013. The meal site’s legacy will continue on and someone else will be your support as always.

When I was hired by the ADRC of Waukesha County for the job of managing the meal site in Brookfield 15 years ago, I had no idea what a journey I would be traveling. As a senior myself now, I often ask, “where did the time go?”. I have had the opportunity to meet so many people, have learned many things about life from all of you and have stored many fond memories in my heart. I considered it a privilege to work in the community of seniors to try and make just a tiny bit of differ-ence.

We all have seen the meal site grow in both the dining room and the meals-on-wheels program which, certainly, have proven to be greatly needed and well accepted in our community. Of course, the success of a well-run Senior Dining Program is dependent on the dedication and hard work of volunteers. Know that each one of you is appreci-ated and so I send out a big heartfelt thank you to all of you! Also, you should know that you are certainly instrumental in making a difference at the meal site and in the senior community.

Together, we have shared fun, food, and fellow-ship, which is what the meal site actually stands for. All of this is bittersweet for me, but I plan on enjoying my family and continue being an active senior in our community. I will miss the meal site and seeing all of you, but I am looking forward to the next phase of my life………where did the time go? Stay healthy and keep smiling!!

Sincerely grateful,

Darla

You are invited to say farewell to Darla and wish her well in her retirement. Please join us during and immediately following lunch on Tuesday November 26th in the Senior Center Dining Room. Lunch reservations are required if you plan to dine with us that day.
