G I F TOF FEAR OF THE LORD
Not taking an extra cookie
Silence
Being silent when you are tempted to say something mean
“I will only take one cookie even if I want more than one.”
St. Kateri Tekakwitha
St. Kateri Tekakwitha was a Mohawk Indian who became a Christian when Jesuit missionaries visited her tribe’s village in what is now New York. She loved the Christians so much that she went back with them to their mission in Canada. There she lived simply and worked hard to provide for herself and those with whom she lived.

G I F TOF FEAR OF THE LORD

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for all the desires You have given me, because they remind me of the desire in my heart that only You can fill! Help me to control my tongue
when I am supposed to be silent; my hands when I am supposed to keep them to myself; my eyes when I am supposed to be focused on a particular person
or thing; and my ears to listen to only those things I am supposed to hear.

G I F TOF FEAR OF THE LORD
Telling the truth even when it is hard
“I am sorry.”
Admitting you did something wrong
“This is what really happened …” “I told the truth.”
St. Bridget of Sweden
God asked St. Bridget to deliver His truth to many people in positions of importance. As lady-in-waiting to the queen of Sweden, she helped the people of the court (including the king and queen) to live holier lives. She later went to Avignon and encouraged the pope to move back to Rome and serve as the Vicar of Christ. St. Bridget did not allow fear to keep her from speaking the truth to those who needed to hear it.

Dear Jesus,
You said, “I am the Truth” (John 14:6). You have made me for Truth, because You have made me for Yourself! Help me be honest in all that I say and do, that I might know true
happiness in You.

Dressing in an appropriate manner
“I will wear this skirt because it isn’t too short or too tight.”
Silence
Not bragging about talents, achievements etc.
St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas Aquinas’s wealthy family wanted him to become a powerful abbot, but Thomas wanted only to be a humble Dominican friar. He had a brilliant mind but was so wary of showing off that some of his fellow students thought he was unintelligent.
St. Thomas became the Church’s greatest theologian. Still, at the end of his life, he said that everything he had written was “only straw” compared to God’s greatness.

Dear Jesus,
Give me a pure heart like that of Your holy Mother! Through baptism I have the gift of the Spirit living inside of me. Please increase in me the gift of the fear of the Lord, so that I may
never sadden You by the way I dress, act, or speak.
