At least 54 beer cases to the totalamount of R8370 were disposed of.This should send a clear message andwarning to all illegal shebeen ownerswho fail to comply with the Liquor Actagainst operating or selling liquor wit-hout a licence ‘Sizothatha sichithe.’This is to prove how committed the po-lice are to clamp down on liquor-relatedcrime which contributes to causes ofcrime, said Constable Makhale. The po-lice not only destroy the liquor but theyfurther go on to issue fines to owners.Patrons are also are warned not to walkon the streets with liquor in their hands.

GROENPUNT. - Groenpunt Correcti-onal Service hosted an Alcohol andDrug Awareness Day at the JuvenileCorrectional Centre on Thursday. Theday was a great success involving thepolice force, the community and thefamilies of offenders. Speaking du-ring the event was Acting Area Com-missioner Poppy Mofokeng, wholambasted the inmates of correctionalservice, which was supposed to recti-fy their old ways. “Rehabilitation wascreated to turn convicts into better pe-ople.

Take all the programmes laid befo-re you and make use of them so thatyou can become a better person afterserving your sentence,” said Mof-okeng during the awareness event.

Mofokeng was very clear that num-bers had never benefited anyone inprison. The keys are education and thewisdom to learn from those who havebeen there before. Reverend LefaPhetho was one of the guest speakers, others included former Orlando Pira-tes Football Club stalwart Edward‘Magents’ Motale. Phetho asked theinmates to allow themselves to be bre-akable in order to accept their wrongdeeds. “You are there regretting whatyou have done, allow rehabilitation to

do its work so you are a better personwhen you come out,” says Phetho.Motale says some inmates got arresteddue to alcohol and drugs. He asked allthose assembled whether they hadever met a drug dealer that uses drugsand it was clear that peddlers didn’t

use them because they know the con-sequences. Inmates were also givena chance to educate and illustrate theirunderstanding of drugs and alcohol. They composed songs and some per-formed dramas and danced against al-cohol and drug abuse.

Now that we are getting closer and closerto next year’s national elections it is noa surprise to see political parties mushroo-ming left, right and centre. It is a known

fact that most of these parties will be non-existent as soon as the elections are over. What I am asking myself, and what Iwould like to think many of you out thereare asking yourselves is: why bother to in-

clude yourself in matters that you know youhave no clue about (politics)?

I become amused when I see members ofcertain political parties ditching their ‘homes’

trying to reach the limelight or the riches withpolitical parties that entice them at theslightest opportunity. I am amused as I wouldlike to believe that even blind mice know howto make their mark or who to make it for, thatis, if they have been inhaling the political at-mosphere of this region and of the countryat large. It is not at this time of the year thatparties should be mushrooming and claiming

to bring change - it is at this time of theyear that parties should be concentratingon giving the public the most essential

thing they need, which is good, qualityservice.

I believe that the time to ‘convince’me is long past and that the time remai-ning now is for action to be taken. It doesnot matter who I vote for but I am defini-tely making the right choice. I am notgoing to go with the noise that presentlyfills the political atmosphere, but I’m ra-ther going to make a wise choice, a choi-ce that will ensure that in the next fouryears I do not look back and say ‘Ishould have put my mark ‘elsewhere’.Now whether you listen to those thatwould like to have your vote in the co-ming months or not, please do so wiselybecause, THIS IS YOUR VOTE.

EVATON. - Heritage is best celebratedby the older generation. This was recently evident in Evaton

when Leratong, Utlwelang Bohloko,Kopano ke Matla, Samkelo and Resi-densia old age clubs came together incelebration of Heritage Day under thetheme ‘Bakae basadi’? (‘Where are thewomen?’).According to one guest speaker Thel-

maMakhemele the theme was a relevantone. “A nation without its heritage is alost nation.“Along the way we got lost and forgot

where we came from, which is why weneed to go back to our roots where weused the Bible to find the way.”The women of today must ask for di-

rection from the older women as theyare the ones that know it best.” Makhe-mele added that parents needed to buildup their kids as opposed to saying nega-tive things to them and breaking theirspirit, adding that this was the reasonwhy today’s kids were criminals anddrug addicts.Allinah Matipidi says, “Our country

is very rich in culture and heritage, which is why we have all come togetherin celebration. Today we stand togetherin celebration of our differences, whichdivided us in the past.”Traditional food from all different

cultures was prepared, there was danceand music everywhere.

A great sense of pride was displayedby everyone in attendance and peoplewore their different cultural attires there-by showing off the diversity in South Af-rica today.

VEREENIGNG. - The Vereeniging SAPScluster celebrated Heritage Day on Fridayin style as the men and women in blue werebriefly excused from their daily duties infighting crime. The celebration was held at the Vaal

Show Grounds, where these crime-stop-pers were given words of wisdom and cou-rage to continue to do good. Lieutenant Co-lonel Thembi Nhlapo said, “It would bewi-se as police officers to know who we are,and where the force comes from and whereit’s heading. The history and heritage of the men and

women in blue needs to be created, told andsecured by the very same people. Generati-ons will come and go, our children will le-arn about the force and its basic objective,”says Nhlapo as she lectured the assembly.Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Fun-

da says it was very insightful for them toattend such an event. After the lecture and words of wisdom

officers in their different attire had a chanceto celebrate their culture and past ways ofliving.Representatives of all 11 cultures - from

Zulu, Venda, Sotho and others. They danced and cherished each others’

cultures, giving each other will and support,

BOPHELONG. - The agricultural industry hasgrown and proven to be one of the industriesthat can help sustain the economy. The Thusa-nang Community Project has committed itselfto fight poverty using agriculture. This is ac-cording to project founder Shadrack Achusewho states that the lack of good employmentopportunities forced him to think out of thebox. This led him to start an agricultural projectwhich would create employment and supplythe big markets with fresh produce. “Bophe-long is one of the most poverty-stricken areasin this region; this project helps the communityby selling them food at a very reasonable price. We also supply schools that have feeding sche-mes with veggies,” says Achuse. The projecthas garnered two awards from theGautengDe-partment of Agriculture for Processing, Best

Shooting From The Hip has nothingagainst Danny Jordaan as some of his ‘si-dekicks’ suggest, but what Jordaan saidafter being elected Safa President duringthe elective congress over the weekend isexactlywhat his predecessor –KirstenNe-matandani - said about the developmentof football in this country four years ago.The speech was just a cut-and-paste, to

say the least, because Nematandani alsospoke highlyabout the need fordevelopment foot-ball when he beca-me Safa Presidentfour year ago; butthis turned out tobe just another ca-se of lip service.Shooting From

The Hip hopesthat Danny Jor-daan’s speech wasnot yet another example of lip service justlike Nematandani’s.Shooting From The Hip will always re-

mind anyone who cares to listen that notevery Tom, Dick and Harry qualifies totalk about football development in thiscountry. In fact those who claim to know every-

thing when it comes to the developmentof football in this country – are the oneswho know nothing. Shooting From TheHip believes that those Danny Jordaancampaigners are now happy because theman they were prepare to die for has final-ly become Safa President. The only thing Shooting From The Hip

pleads for from everyone involved in foot-

ball is to rally behindDanny Jordaan. Let’sgive him the support he needs to take ourfootball to the next level, taking into consi-deration his speech over the weekend. He seems to be a man on a mission to

transform South African football, but onlytime will tell if he is the right man for theposition. What’s done has been done has been do-

ne, and those who were anti-Jordaan mustmake peace withthe fact that he isnow theman res-ponsible for ourfootball.Shooting

From The Hipunderstands the-re are those whostill believe thatDanny Jordaanis not the rightman, but we ne-

ver know who is the right man is - untilwe find him! In this case, Danny Jordaanis the right man.Shooting From The Hip also under-

stands that some people are still hurtingbecause of what happened prior to theelection, but this should now be water un-der the bridge.Having said that, those Jordaan “side-

kicks” must go back and apologise to thepeople they upset during the election cam-paign.Look, football is bigger than individu-

als. Even Jordaan knows that and we mustnot make the same mistake as his predec-cessor. He must not allow power to go tohis head.

Nomore lip serviceMr Jordaan!

SEBOKENG. - The Emfuleni Local FootballAssociation’s StreamB - second placed Venta-ge FC - will be the first team this season toface the League Disciplinary Committee (DC)if the referee’s match report is anything to goby. Sedibeng Ster Sports has learned that thematch official (known to this newspaper) clai-med that the club’s players assaulted him afterthe game recently. This was after Vintage FCplayed to a 2-2 draw against EYA FC at theZone 3 Stadium.

According to the match official in question,Vintage’s players came to him immediately af-ter he blew the final whistle. He says some ofthe players’ spat in his face while others slap-ped him. He said this incident was witnessedby some football officials who had come towatch the game and rescued him.

The referee says hell broke loose when hegave one of the Vintage FC players a red cardafter he deliberately ‘kicked-off’ an oppositi-on’s player. Sedibeng Ster is in the possessionof the report to the league.

This incident was confirmed to Sedibeng

Ster Sports by Emfuleni Local Football Asso-ciation chairman Philip Ndlovu. He says thathe received the report from the match officialand has since referred it to the Safa SedibengDisciplinary Committee. To make mattersworse, Vintage FC’s owner is one of the ELFAadditional members.

Ndlovu says this is not good for football andhe warns other teams that the league is goingto deal with teams that assault match officials.

“It is true that I received a report from thematch official claiming that he was assaultedbyVintage players. I’m very disappointedwiththe club’s behaviour because they bring the lea-gue into disrepute and we have to make anexample of them,” he concludes.

Meanwhile, Ndlovu says the teams mustplay during the week and the weekend to com-plete their league programme.Stream A Fixtures:SaturdayLiverpool vsBedworth Park (GeorgeThabe,
