This is both a command and a good idea! We live in a fast-paced world that doesn’t value rest. We have many recreational activities, but that’s much different than rest. We need to relearn the spiritual commands of rest and renewal. Over the first three weeks of August we will look at rest, solitude and Sabbath. We will especially focus on the biblical idea of Sabbath and how we can apply it to today’s world. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday. And I hope you can get some rest! FUMC Canyon Welcomes New

Members

“Sharing God’s Story for 125 Years”

In 1912, C.N. Harrison and his Booster Sunday school Class of about 30 boys helped build two classrooms onto the white frame church at 9th Street and 5th Avenue. A number of Methodist men helped, assisted by several

Presbyterians and one Baptist.

In 1947, the Men’s Fellowship Class accepted sponsorship of a Boy Scout Troop. To date, Boy Scout Troop 31 has produced 123 Eagle Scouts. Check out the names of these scouts printed on the scout trailer parked in the east parking

lot.

ALL CHURCH PICNIC COMING UP! - SUNDAY, AUGUST 24TH

We will combine our two services that day at 10:45am. Sunday Schools will NOT MEET or they must meet early (9:30am-10:30am), so that we can eat and fellowship together. Each family bring a main dish enough

for your family and a little more. *If your last name starts with A-L,please bring a side dish along with your main dish. *If your last namestarts with M-Z, please bring a dessert along with your main dish. Bring all food to the kitchen by 10:45 a.m. on that Sunday.

We invite all students to bring their backpack to church for a blessing of the backpacks which will take place

during our children’s time.

AUGUST 15 – 16 UMW Garage Sale

The United Methodist Women will help our church clean out, recycle and repurpose our many blessings on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th of August. Please donate your items – especially those that might help us raise big bucks for missions. We can offer you a receipt for your donations for tax purposes and it all goes to making this world a better place. The UMW will accept early drop offs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the sale at the Paul Blake Building just across from the library and community center between 4 and 7 pm. Volunteers, donations and shoppers are needed. Please email [email protected] with questions or give any UMW friend a call. Please help us have a great event by adding this to

your prayer list.
