Meditation

God says: I will take a sprig from the lofty top of a cedar; I will set it out. I will break off a tender one from the topmost of its young twigs;

I myself will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.

On the mountain height of Israel I will plant it, in order that it may produce boughs and bear fruit,

and become a noble cedar. Under it every kind of bird will live; in the shade of its branches will nest winged creatures of every kind.

Ezekiel 17: 22-23

Welcome The Bell is Rung Prelude Trumpet March by Jean-Baptiste Lully James Cesare, Trumpet *Call to Worship

A drop of water ripples into infinity All is changed - by a single drop of water. Now into the pool of our spirit the water ripples And, we, are changed again. Come, let us worship in this new and changed spirit we share!

Unison Prayer Here in this place, there are no foreigners,

for all are welcome in God’s house. Here in this worship, there is only acceptance,

for love is the language of faith. Here in our lives, there are no divisions,

for God dwells in each of us. We pray to remember this always,

And when we forget, we ask you, Creator God, Remind us through the touch of one another.

Assurance of God’s Love * Passing of the Peace First Reading: Psalm 20

God answer you on the day you crash, The name God-of-Jacob put you out of harm’s reach, Send reinforcements from Holy Hill, Dispatch from Zion fresh supplies, Exclaim over your offerings, Celebrate your sacrifices, Give you what your heart desires, Accomplish your plans. When you win, we plan to raise the roof and lead the parade with our banners. May all your wishes come true! That clinches it—help’s coming, an answer’s on the way, everything’s going to work out. See those people polishing their chariots, and those others grooming their horses? But we’re making garlands for God our God. The chariots will rust, those horses pull up lame— and we’ll be on our feet, standing tall. Make our leaders winners, God; the day we call, give us your answer.

Musical Praise Overcome by the Power of Love by James Ahrend

Gospel Reading: Mark 4:26-34

Jesus also said, “This is what the kin-dom of God is like. Someone scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether they sleep or get up, the seed sprouts and grows, though they do not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, the sickle is put to it, because the harvest has come.” Again Jesus said, “What shall we say the kin-dom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.” With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

Provocation Everyone Has a Mother Mary Ray Bagnuolo *Hymn NCH #256 We Live by Faith and Not by Sight Prayer for Others and Ourselves

Now, we invite you to enter into a time of prayer and, if you wish, to share your joys and concerns as I come to you with the microphone. We also invite you to write your joys and concerns on one of the prayer cards you will find the pew and placing it in the collection basket during the offertory. May we hear your joys and concerns?

Let us pray the prayer Jesus taught the disciples to pray. Musical Praise Let It Be by Lennon/McCartney, arr. James Higgins
