Transformation and DataSource

A Transformation is used to consolidate, cleanse, and integrate data. The fields of the source are converted into the fields of the target

Fields of the data source Fields of the data target Fields that are delivered from the source system

A Data Source is defined to specify which kind of data is to be uploaded from the source system

SAP BW data extraction process• Data Transfer into SAP BW• Flat file Extraction• DB Connect extraction• CO-PA data extraction• LIS and LO data extraction• Generic extractor• How to enhance standard business content

Exercise

1. Creation of Data Source

2.Loading through Info Package to PSA

12

Page 13: Sap Business Intelligence Training

Data Transfer Process and InfoPackage

InfoPackages are used to upload data from the source systems into PSA (that is assigned to the DataSource); once a DTP is in place, all other processing options are not available (grayed out)

Data transfer processes are used to transfer the data further; in this case from the PSA table (that is assigned to the data source) to the InfoCube

Unit 12 - Process Chains 2 Hours

A process chain is a sequence of processes that wait in the background for an event. Some of these processes trigger a separate event that can start other processes in turn.

A process in the context of BW process chains is a procedure inside of or external to an SAP system with a defined beginning and end. A distinction is made between a start process, an application process and a collection process.
