THE SOURCES OF PRAYER

Sometimes we ask ourselves where, how, and when to pray; especially where we can take elements for meditation and prayer. * First, we have the Bible. The Psalms could be used, which are a great source of personal prayer and offer words that can express a great deal of feelings towards God: praise, gratitude, petition, plea, fear, anguish and pain, joy, complaint… To pray with the Bible is to use the words and events of the Bible for our own prayers. * We also have the prayer of the Church, In the public worship of the Church (the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours) prayers are recited that come from Scripture or from the tradition of the Church. This helps to unite the person with entire ecclesial community. There are various characteristic of Christian prayer that are present in all forms of prayer: the attitude of faith, hope, and charity; also perseverance and union with God. In prayer, the person surrenders completely to the trust and hope in God. * You can also pray in he daily routine. Throughout the course of the day, you can find God at work, in the decisions you take in each moment, in every encounter with the people who accompany is or need us. The more we live our lives this way, the better we will understand the world around us and we are joined to all of God’s creatures. We also wonder if our prayers are heard. We trust that the love of God wants what is best for us, although sometimes the answer to our prayers is not what we expected. But, if we trust in the Spirit within us, the answer to our prayers will be evident in our own lives, with our attention to love, our attention, and our desire for justice. * Saints are also a good source of prayer, since they give us examples of friendship with God and of prayer, and they show us the way of virtues and encounter with God. They are a school of prayer. * We can pray in any place and at any time: in our jobs, on the street, even in parties. But we can also take special time in sacred places, such as before the Blessed Sacrament and in churches, to worship God, receive his grace and friendship, and renew our strength.

LAS FUENTES DE LA ORACIÓN

A veces nos podemos preguntar dónde, cómo y cuándo orar. Sobre todo, de dónde podemos tomar elementos para la meditación y la oración. * En primer lugar, tenemos la Biblia. Se pueden usar los Salmos, que son una gran fuente de oración personal y que ofrecen palabras que pueden expresar una gran cantidad de sentimientos hacia Dios: alabanza, gratitud, petición, súplica, temor, angustia y dolor, alegría, queja…. Orar con la Biblia es usar las palabras y acontecimientos de la Biblia para nuestra propia oración. * También contamos con la oración de la Iglesia. En el culto público de la Iglesia (La misa y la Liturgia de las Horas) se recitan oraciones que viene de la Sagrada Escritura o de la tradición de la Iglesia. Esto ayuda a unir a la persona con toda la comunidad eclesial. Hay varias características de la oración cristiana que están presentes en toda forma de oración: es la actitud de fe, esperanza y caridad; y también la perseverancia y unión con la voluntad de Dios. En la oración, la persona se entrega totalmente a la confianza y la esperanza en Dios. * También se puede orar en la rutina diaria. En el curso del día, se puede encontrar a Dios en el trabajo, en las decisiones que se van tomando en cada momento, en cada encuentro con las personas que nos acompañan o que nos necesitan. Cuanto más vivimos así nuestra vida, mejor entendemos el mundo que nos rodea y nos unimos a todas las criaturas de Dios. También nos preguntamos si nuestras oraciones son escuchadas. Confiamos en que el amor de Dios siempre quiere lo mejor para nosotros, aunque a veces la respuesta a nuestra oración no sea la que esperábamos. Pero, si confiamos en El Espíritu en nosotros, la respuesta a nuestras oraciones será evidente en nuestras propias vidas, con nuestras atenciones de amor, nuestra atención, nuestro deseo de justicia. * Los santos son también una buena fuente de oración, ya que nos dan ejemplo de amistad con Dios y de oración y nos muestran el camino de las virtudes y del encuentro con Dios. Son escuela de oración. * Podemos orar en cualquier lugar y en cualquier momento: en nuestro trabajo, en la calle, e incluso en fiestas. Pero también podemos tomar tiempos especiales en lugares sagrados, ante el Santísimo, en las iglesias, para adorar a Dios, recibir su gracia y su amistad y renovar nuestras fuerzas.

Para la reflexión ¿Dónde y en qué momentos me encuentro orando con más devoción? ¿En qué momentos de la vida me ha ayudado más la oración? ¿Cómo utilizo la Sagrada Escritura en mi oración? ¿Es la misa y el momento de culto publico verdaderamente un momento de oración para mi?
