A Message From Our Pastor Father’s Formed.org Suggestion of the Week
READ – Youth – FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS Awakening by Claudia Cangilla McAdam
Today Jesus enters Jerusalem to the praise of the people singing, “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the high-est” (Matthew 21:9). He has prepared himself for this mo-ment, and now enters the city in such a way as to fulfill the prophesy of Zechariah 9:9, “Exult greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! Behold: your king is coming to you, a just savior is he, Humble, and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” The saving king will come in a most meek and humble way humbly riding on a beast of burden. The people were happily receiving, “…the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee” (Matthew 21:11). The people greeted Jesus’ coming with the acclamation: “Hosanna.” This greeting had become a jubilant welcome. However, taking an etymological look at the word, we find that its true mean-ing is an exhortation: “O Lord, grant salvation.” This is an interesting greeting to give Jesus, because he is coming to grant salvation for all. The Lord is answering their prayer without them realizing it. For the Mass of Palm Sunday, we too celebrate Jesus’ entrance into the city of Jerusalem for our salvation. How-ever, with our understanding of the events to come, let us not be unaware that the Lord seeks entrance into our hearts to bring the reality of salvation to each one of our lives. He knocks at the door of our heart, and humbly waits for us to invite him in. The Lenten journey of fasting and sacrifice can pay plentiful dividends. The emptying of ourselves can now be filled with the grace of redemption. Come to celebrate the fullness of Christ’s redemptive work with the Easter Triduum—Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord’s Supper; Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion; and Holy Saturday of the Resurrection—and Easter Sunday.

Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times. (Luke 22:61)
Questions for Discussion:
Adult: When have you felt that you betrayed the confi-dence of another, as Peter did when he denied Jesus? Child: When have you let someone down who trusted you? How did you feel?

How To Celebrate Holy Week… During the weeks of Lent, we have prepared for this final week by fasting, pray-ing, and almsgiving, all with the purpose of opening ourselves more fully to God’s presence in our lives. During Holy Week, we walk with Jesus, we suffer with him, we die with him, and finally, we rise again: new creatures, brought deeply into the joy of redemption and new life now, and we pray, forever. On these days, we are offered a gift: Bib-lical symbols and liturgical gestures that help us to enter into the salvific events of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We don’t just watch, but we participate in each of them as strive to follow Christ more closely.
We would like to thank the following families and individuals

Pro-Life Corner...Would you be “Pro-Choice” if choice meant someone had a right to choose to kill you? It’s actually pretty easy to be “pro-choice” as long as you’re not the one being chosen to die. Babies have no choice and have no voice in this matter. We must be their voice - speak out in defense of life.
FIRST READING - Acts 10:34a, 37-43 Peter proceeded to speak and said: "You know what has hap-pened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name."
SECOND READING - Colossians 3:1-4 Brothers and sisters: If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.
GOSPEL - John 20:1-9 On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet under-stand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.

Holy Thursday Collection for the Education of Our
Diocesan Seminarians...
On April 18, at the celebration of the Evening Mass of The Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, a collection will be offered for the education of our future priests. With your continuous generosity, and a bequest received several years ago, the dio-cese should be able to fund the cost of educating our seminari-ans without adding an additional amount to our Diocesan Ser-vices Appeal campaign. Please assist your parish and our dio-cese in helping to educate our future priests. These men, we pray, will one day be ordained and will be serving us in our parishes. Let us all do our part in assisting in their education and formation. Thank you for supporting our Holy Thursday
Collection for the Education of Our Diocesan Seminarians.
The Pontifical Good Friday Collection…
Pope Francis asks parishes to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the Church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. Please be generous.

Living the Liturgical Year… Easter Vigil The high point of the liturgical year, the Easter Vigil, im-merses us in the mystery of death and resurrection, and en-gages all of our senses. We move from darkness to light, from a single voice chanting the Exultet to the triumphant sym-phony of instruments and voices proclaiming Glory to God and Alleluia! We watch as the catechumens are immersed in the waters of baptism, anointed with Sacred Chrism, and wel-
comed to the Eucharistic banquet. We share a sign of peace and embrace with those who have joined our church commu-nity.
Catechism Connection… "Beginning with the Easter Triduum as its source of light, the new age of the Resurrection fills the whole liturgical year with its brilliance.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1168).
