ST. JOHN NEUMANN
This coming week, our young people enrolled in local public schools will be gathered for our annual Summer Religious Education Program. Instead of meeting for an evening during the school year, when they were often tired from a long day at school already; we gather them for a week during the summer to dive deeper into the mysteries of our faith and help them experience some of the beauty of what it means to be Catholic in our world today. Please pray for them and for their teachers!
As I have mentioned several times in this space, the religious formation of our young people is one of the greatest tasks set before us as a Catholic parish; and it involves more than just the parents and the catechists. It is a task of the whole parish!
Thinking back on my own childhood, I can see how the involvement of the whole parish helped bring about a growth of faith in me. Growing up in a small town, the faith was something tangible and real. We marked the whole day by the tolling of the bells at the Catholic Church. Going to Mass, we so often saw my grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins; we realized that we were on this journey as a group.
One of my favorite memories is seeing my grandparents praying the Rosary prior to daily Mass when my brother and I would come in to serve before going to school. They would smile and wave at us as we went charging on past. Thinking now, their witness of attending Daily Mass was a great inspiration.
Anyway, back to today. Our young people face so many challenges to their attention, all of which seek to draw them away from the faith into the trappings of the secular world; trappings which will never suffice. The witness of joy in the family, the witness of parishioners praying the Mass, the embrace of the Cross in order to be more closely united to Jesus; all contribute to the handing down of the faith to the rising generation.
But in all things, the Spirit is the one who brings faith to life. As it is Pentecost, it is a good day to pray for an ever new outpouring of the Spirit upon our young people during this week of formation. The parish and the pastoral region always needs the outpouring of the Spirit as well. He is the lifeblood and inspiration of the Christian and we all need more of the Spirit in our lives in order to be the leaven of society, as Jesus calls us to be.
With Pentecost, we transition away from the glory of the Easter Season and move back into Ordinary Time, a time to grow, a time to allow the mysteries celebrated to draw deeper into our lives, a time to let the Spirit penetrate all that we are and do.
God Bless,Fr. Kyle Schnippel

Prayer for Pentecost Sunday – Abundance of the Holy SpiritFather of all nations, You gather Your people so that we may know the power of the Holy Spirit, alive in the driving wind and the tongues of fire. May we be filled abundantly with Your Spirit, so that we can proclaim your holy name to every man, woman, and child throughout the earth. May all the world know the mighty deeds of our
God. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.© 2019 Liturgy Training Publications. 800-933-1800.

Behold the Lamb of God!
To foster Eucharistic Devotion, we would like to extend the hours for Thursday evening Adoration to 6:00-9:00 p.m. To do so, we need parishioners to come be with our Lord. Please consider taking this opportunity to rest with our Lord in prayer.
“Faith is not a light which scatters all our darkness, but a lamp which guides our steps in the night and suffices for the journey. To those who suffer, God does not provide arguments which explain everything; rather, His response is that of an accompanying presence, a history of goodness which touches every story of suffering and opens up a ray of light.”
~ Pope Francis

Lector Formation and Training in JuneFor those of you who are interested in becoming a Lector for St. John Neumann, there will be a formation and training session on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. We will meet in the church Nave. The training will take approximately two hours

Please take one of the Missalettes at church and choose a reading from either the Old or New Testament that you wish to proclaim. Practice the reading at home and come prepared to proclaim as you would at one of our liturgies. If you have any questions about the June session, please feel free to call Pat Bergen at 907-1335.
Youth Ministry News On June 22, eight of our high school students will be joined by two chaperones to attend the seven-day mission trip with Young Neighbors in Action in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They are an international religious community of missionary priests and Brothers serving in 80 countries building chapels, celebrating sacraments, and spreading Word of God.
Over 6,000 missionaries travel the world building hospitals, educating the poor, teaching the hungry to farm, and providing life’s necessities. They help people neglected and forgotten by society, building a better future and foster vibrant Catholic communities. This Mission Appeal is part of the Mission Co-op Program of our Diocese. Please be generous in the second collection on June 15-16 to help support the missionary work of the Divine Word Missionaries. Envelopes are on the tables in the Gathering Space for your donation. Please bring your envelope back next weekend. Thank you for your generosity.

Parents: We continue to look for opportunities and materials that will serve to support you in forming your children’s faith lives. We welcome your feedback to Dottie at [email protected] or 742-0953, ext. 13. These activities come from a program called “The Meal Box.” The intent is to provide mealtime conversation starters that will engage your children and tips for the parents to apply the general theme to the family’s faith life.
Table Discussion: When you consider our amazing and complex earth, in what particular aspect of it do you find it easiest to “see” God?Parents: Recall learning to hit a baseball – for many of us, there was an inclination to close our eyes when the ball got close. So, how do we learn to keep our “eye on the ball” and see things that may scare us?Activity: Discuss where your children “see” God in our world. Then discuss things or situations that may be hard for us to “see” God. How can we learn to “see” God even in the bad or scary things? 18
