Dear Saint Bridget Parishioners:
I am pleased to announce that weekday Masses will resume, in part, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday beginning on the
Feast of the Holy Cross, September 14th. The delay was tied to COVID cleaning and I am glad that we are able to partly resume weekday Masses. These may become intentioned Masses. Masses on Thursday and Friday will have to wait for the time being. Sign-up for weekday Masses will take place upon entry at the door. Folks should enter from the parking lot entrance near the front walkway. Please do not enter by the handicapped ramp or by the Wheeler Avenue entry. Please do not ascend or descend the lavatory stairs, though the lavatory is open for use. These restrictions are tied to “clean areas” being maintained. One entrance and one exit is the norm. School will be beginning soon. Please exercise caution when using the parking lot. Keep our faculty, staff, students & families in your thoughts and prayers as we begin a new academic year. The challenges we face in the church building are likewise being played out in classrooms and corridors. Pray to God that we will pass this hardship soon! Religious education this year will be virtual. The school building must be kept “clean” until the students return on Monday morning. Please enroll your son or daughter as soon as you can. Religious education classes resume in October. Even with virtual religious education, a teacher and an assistant are required. Please think of volunteering for this rewarding program. If you are interested please contact Jenn Ryan or Heather Griffin. Classes for “Protecting God’s Children/VIRTUS” may now be taken remotely or virtually. This is wonderful. If you need to take the program, or wish to renew it, please follow the instructions in the bulletin. All volunteers need to submit CORI Forms. These are available on-line from our website and they may be verified by me after Mass, or at the rectory by appointment. The form & shape of our September ministry fair, Called to Serve, will be different. More details on how to serve will be made known shortly. Under the current conditions and restrictions, this may be a moot point, at least for a while, but taking VIRTUS and completing a CORI form are a great beginning. Thank you again for the support you have given Saint Bridget Parish since this past March. God bless you, Fr. Mark

The percep on of a cross changed drama cally a er Jesus’ crucifixion. Before that event, death on a cross was not only horrible, it was degrading. It was a penalty reserved only for the most wretched of criminals. The word “glory” would not have found its way into the same sentence containing the word “cross.” But all that changed with Jesus. Over me, believers began to venerate and honor the cross. They painted, sculpted, and carved images of it. Many lost their own lives for their associa on with it. Today our reverence for and rela onship with the cross recalls li le of the contempt originally associated with it. As it has been through the ages, it is our percep on of the cross that determines how we follow Jesus. T ’ R
First Reading — The name of the LORD has become like fire burning in Jeremiah’s heart (Jeremiah 20:7-9). Psalm — My soul is thirs ng for you, O Lord my God (Psalm 63). Second Reading — Be transformed; renew your mind; discern what is good (Romans 12:1-2). Gospel — Those who lose their lives for Jesus’ sake will find them (Ma hew 16:21-27).
