From the Pastor’s Desk...

SOUP-ER SUNDAY – Today please place your non-perishable food donations in or around the bins on the front porch of the white house next to chapel.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING – This Saturday (Feb. 8) will be the annual World Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking. February 8th is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in

Sudan and Italy. She learned from Canossian nuns that she was created in the image of God and possessed human dignity. Once she asserted herself and refused to be enslaved, Josephine became a Canossian sister and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. Our parish library has a DVD on her life.

NATIONAL MARRIAGE WEEK – The observance of National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) is an opportunity to focus on a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting

marriage and the family.

RENEWAL OF VOWS - during this Saturday’s (Feb. 8) 4:30 PM Vigil Mass we will invite couples to renew their marriage vows.

BLOOD DRIVE - American Red Cross Blood Drive Saturday February 8, 2020 | 09:00 AM - 02:00 PM

St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church Hall 500 Main Street

Phoenixville, PA 19460Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit www.redcrossblood.org for

availability. Walk-ins welcome. Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. There is a critical need for blood. Please donate.

“FORTY” – In scripture the number 40 rings a number of bells, eg.: the days the rain fell in the time of Noah and the ark; the years Israel spent in the desert; the days Jesus fasted in the desert; the days from the Resurrection to the Ascension of Jesus; etc. Today (February 2nd), on this 40th day since Christmas, our Tradition celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, an event so significant that it displaces the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time. For more see “Of Groundhogs and Grace” at the Pastor’s Portion of our website. https://churchofsaintann.org/

The World Day of Consecrated Life is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord when we hear of Simeon and Anna in the Temple. Today we acknowledge and thank Sister Marie Rose Gibson, R.S.M. and Fr. Kail Ellis, O.S.A. for their witness and ministry in our parish.

CANDLE MASS DAY – Today it is not only Punxsautawney Phil who is paying attention to the interplay between shadow and light. On this day when candles are blessed, these words from the prayer journal of a 20 year old Flannery O’Connor come to mind: “Dear God, I cannot love Thee the way I want to. You are the slim crescent of a moon that I see and my self is the earth’s shadow that keeps me from seeing all the moon. The crescent is very beautiful and perhaps that is all one like I am should or could see; but what I am afraid of, dear God, is that my self shadow will grow so large that it blocks the whole moon, and that I will judge myself by the shadow that is nothing….I do not know you God because I am in the way. Please help me to push myself aside.”

BLESSING – The blessing of throats for St. Blaise Day will be offered tomorrow in Chapel after the 8:00 AM Mass.

Food Pantry News: The St. Ann food pantry for February will be held on the fourth Sunday, Feb. 23. We will return to our usual third Sunday in March. Thank you to all who have generously donated to help our parishioners and friends

in need. A very special thanks to the O’Neill family, who requested memorial donations for Josie O’Neill to be directed to the food pantry in lieu of flowers. These wonderful donations have helped us restock badly needed items. However, we continue to seek these top items: laundry detergent, paper towels, cooking oil, juice, bagged (dry) black beans, white rice, pancake mix & syrup, snacks, diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, toilet paper. Donations can be left anytime on the front porch of the parish office. We thank you!
