Safety to the fore as Swedish car maker

launches new model

Volvo Australia yesterday launched the “safest car it has ever produced” for the Australian market in Adelaide, show casing its latest autonomous technology. The Chinese-owned Swedish car maker shipped in eight of its XCs to mark two years since its involvement with Australia’s first on-road driverless trial.

The trial was conducted on the Southern Expressway in South Australia in November 2015.

The XC60, priced at between $60,000 and $74,000 has more advanced driverless capabilities and safety features than the XC90, which was used in the driverless trial.

Volvo believes the merging of safety features with driverless capability makes the XC60 the safest car on the road.

Volvo has always been confident of its hi-tech safety features, pledging “death-proof” cars by 2020.

As reported in the Advertiser October 2017

The launch event was organised at “The Louise” at Marananga in the Barossa Valley by Volvo’s senior product designer Hans Nilsson

HOLDEN DREAM CRUISE 15 OCTOBER 2017

HOLDEN DREAM CRUISE ATTRACTS 25,000 FANS

There were cheers, beers and tears as thousands of Holden fans converged on Adelaide to celebrate the end of the local car industry. As a precursor to a private ceremony for factory workers and other Holden employees on Friday 20th October when the last Aussie-made car – a Commodore – rolls off the Elizabeth production line, the car maker held the Holden Dream Cruise on Sunday 15th October 2017 its fans to commemorate the occasion. The public event attracted more than 25,000 people to witness a parade of more than 1200 Holden cars through Adelaide’s northern suburbs that culminated in a massive car show where hundreds more flocked to display their beloved machines and rub shoulders with some of Holden's greatest heroes.

REMEMBERING LYN MASON

When Steve convinced me to go to my first ever AAAC car meeting, I had the pleasure to meet Lynne Mason and

Basil Rowe – also James and Kaye Borgas – who’s connection was joining AAAC from the Zephyr club together. I

remember Lynne being a very warm person and someone who would bend over backwards to do anything for

you.

From that very first meeting, Lynne and I discovered we shared the same professional lifestyle and it was good to

be able to have a groan about work with someone that would understand BUT I was quick to learn that Lynne

didn’t groan as much as I did – she just didn’t have that in her.

Another fond memory is Lynne and Basil always being “lucky” in the raffles – with a smile, knowing they had back

themselves with a good purchase of tickets!!!

It was a worry to hear that Lynne was unwell and in hospital, but it was a complete shock to hear that Lynne had

passed away. Lynne’s memory to me will always be of someone who put a smile on my face and happiness. May

you have many more Zephyr car runs without breakdowns and win more raffles Lynne. And the AAA club will

keep an eye on Basil for you.

General Information Ordinary Car Run 22 October 2017

Stating from the top of Tapley's Hill and travelling through Clarendon then

through Bakers Gully and McLaren Flat, to meet up with others at the Lions Park near McLaren Vale, then retracing back along Kangarilla Road to Wickham's Hill road then along Range Road through – The Range – Montara, to arrive at the top of Willunga Hill, on the “old” road – a very interesting and nice drive – which included several very sharp corners, although rain cancelled the great view over the country to the sea..

From the top we went down the hill to Pages Flat Road and along to the

property of Neville and Josie Rogers. Where we had a BBQ of snags and burgers. Very well

conducted by and thank you to Ian assisted by Judith.

Josie had the urn going as well.

We had our lunch in ONE of the sheds among SOME of the tractors

Inspected the large collection of tractors and various other items that included a rare six cylinder Dort which has an interesting history.

Josie's garden was inspected by some and some plants were brought home.

Neville had arranged for us to check out a collection of mid 50s Holden's

owned by Robin just down road. He had mostly FE's and FC's on display, but he has many more.

Many people chose to return home via the coast road taking in the views

toward the sea and other interesting sights..

All in all a very good day, thoroughly enjoyed by all participating.
