Description This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to enter and work in confined spaces in accordance with the WHS Regulations, Codes of Practice and Australian Standard 2865-2009. Who is this course for? This course is suitable for those persons required to perform work in confined spaces as well as covering the basic requirements for stand-by personnel and those authorising work permits. Units of Competency • RIIWHS202D Enter and work in confined

Course Duration 8 hours (initial); 6 hours (refresher*) Student Numbers Min 6; Max 12 Course Content • Australian Standards and relevant

legislation • Identifying confined spaces • Hazards, risks and control measures for

confined spaces • Confined space entry permits • Air contaminants and toxic gases • Atmospheric monitoring and gas

detection • Respiratory protection • Confined space safety equipment • Worksite policy and procedures • Simulated practice scenarios

Award Issued Upon successful completion of the assessment requirements of this course, students will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment and wallet card. Recertification Refreshers recommended every two years.

Pre-requisites Nil Pre-entry Requirements Students must be physically capable of participating in the practical activities and demonstrate a basic level of language, literacy and numeracy. Delivery Methods The course content will be delivered in a classroom environment using PowerPoint presentations, videos, group discussions and a number of demonstration and skill building activities. Assessment Methods Students will be assessed in a simulated practical scenario involving confined space entry. Underpinning knowledge will be assessed with a theory assessment (containing multiple-choice questions). Notes All of our courses are tailored to site policies and procedures. Appropriate clothing is to be worn when attending training including long pants, long shirts and enclosed footwear. PPE specified by the workplace is also to be worn. *Refresher training is only available to those people who have proof of undertaking the same unit of competency previously.
