Mission Statement
Through our gifts of time, talents, and treasures, we serve our parish as we journey together to the Kingdom of God.
BAKING & OR KITCHEN HELP~ The Social Committee is always getting ready for Monthly Baking, and will soon be
baking Pumpkin Rolls and the famous Bah Humbug event which will be held on December 14, 2019.
It takes lots of helping hands to make all of these events a HUGH SUCCESS. If you have any time and would like to
help for morning baking call Sue Dornisch (834-6550) or Nadine Carr (834-7392), evening baking call Linda Brunner
(335-4083) or for kitchen help, please give Helene Burdick (594-0439) a call. It would be wonderful to see new faces
and hands helping. STUDENTS~ keep in mind that if you need Service Hours,
this is a GREAT way to receive hours and give back to YOUR Church.
A "Difficult Choice" Advocates of abortion often refer to the decision to have an abortion as a "difficult choice."
Why is it a difficult choice? The reason is very simple and obvious. We all know that the unborn
child is a person growing inside the mother's womb. So, of course, it is "difficult". Choosing to
terminate the life of another human being is a "difficult choice". If the unborn child was not a
person, what would be so difficult about choosing to end his or her life? Is killing a cancer growing
inside your body a "difficult choice" . Of course not. Dehumanizing the child is a vital strategy used
by pro-abortionists to disguise the "difficult choice" that is being made. The baby is made to appear
like the invading "blob of tissue"----like a cancerous growth. Why do we allow such deceit and
victimization of the pre-born? Can you find a more innocent or vulnerable human being than a
precious baby boy or girl inside his/her mother's womb? Pro-Life Articles

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE
Everyone has been where the lepers are in today’s
gospel: they meant to thank Jesus for a blessing, but,
excited about being cured they just didn’t get ‘around-to-
it.’ We too get caught up in our own interests and fail to
appreciate what we have or what has been done for us.
This week, take nothing for granted and get around to
thanking those who deserve your thanks.

Christ's encounter with the lepers in today’s gospel
is so powerful partly because leprosy itself was so
terrible. Leprosy was and still is an incurable and deadly
disease. Leprosy is a bacterial infection that causes the
extremities of the body - fingers and toes, hands and
feet, nose, ears, and mouth - to die and slowly rot away,
even while the person remains alive. It was so
contagious that even the lepers' closest relatives did not
dare to come near them.
In ancient times, lepers were required to live in
isolated colonies. If they had to travel, the law required
them to ring a bell wherever they went, shouting out,
"Unclean! Unclean!" This explains why these ten lepers
addressed Christ "from a distance", as St Luke points
out. On top of the isolation, lepers had to live with the
almost unbearable pain and stench of their own
decaying bodies. Leprosy was a long, humiliating, and
dismal agony, the most horrible of ancient diseases.
Jesus frees these ten lepers entirely from their agony,
giving them a brand new life. And yet, only one of them
takes the trouble to thank him for it - and that one
happens to be a Samaritan, the one least likely to
respect a Jewish rabbi.
We are all moral lepers.
The whole human race was infected with mortal
selfishness by original sin, a selfishness that rots our
souls and societies just as leprosy rots the body. Christ
saved us. He opened the floodgates of God's grace
through his incarnation, passion, and resurrection. And
then he gave us constant access to that grace through
the Church, the sacraments, and his many other gifts.
We all recognize what Christ has done for us - that's
why we are here today.
Christ's message today is that he wants our
recognition to go deeper, to become an attitude of
gratitude.
