Daily attendance Attending Summer Session classes is mandatory and is crucial for student success. Students are expected to arrive on time every day, and be prepared to work and participate fully in class.

Given the rapid and condensed pace of Summer Session, extended absences for any reason are not accommodated. These include, but are not limited to, work, vacations, sporting events, games/practices, or family commitments.

IMPORTANT: Final report cards must be presented to the teacher on the first day of academic classes.

Learning SupportIf your child has an IEP and/or a Fraser Health Care Plan or Consultation Report, and is currently receiving additional learning support from an Education Assistant at school, we encourage you to register online by May 11 to ensure adequate support is available. First priority of students requiring additional learning support will be given to Burnaby School District regular session students.

Course Locations & CancellationsCourses and their locations cannot be guaranteed. Course offerings are subject to sufficient enrolment and may be moved or cancelled prior to the course start date.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR GRADE 12 BURNABY SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS

AND NON-BURNABY SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS

A pre-approval form must be filled out at burnabyschools.ca/summersession to be able to select courses online starting April 26 (confirmation is necessary). Upon approval, you will receive notification about your eligibility to register for Summer Session courses with the Burnaby School District. Please ensure you have the following documents, scanned or uploaded, for the online registration process.

Be sure to have the following documents ready during the online registration process:

Proof of student’s birthdate (birth certificate or passport)

Proof of guardianship (parents’ or guardians’ as shown on birth certificate or other appropriate legal documentation such as landed immigrant paper or guardianship order granted by the courts)

Proof of citizenship for both the parent and the student (Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card, passport, landed immigrant document, permanent resident card)

Proof of residency of the parent or guardian and student - 2 required, with at least 1 from Category A Category A: proof of ownership of dwelling or long-term lease or rental of dwelling; legal documents indicating BC residence; parent or guardian filing income tax returns as a BC resident Category B: BC hydro bill, BC cable bill, Provincial driver’s licence, provincial registration of automobile, Canadian bank accounts or credit cards Copy of student’s most recent school marks (report card or transcript of academic record) BC Personal Education Number (PEN)

A refundable $100 text book deposit is required at the time of registration. This includes all grade 8-12 academic courses (regular, preview and advance credit) will require the $100 text book deposit.

Secondary students who meet the following criteria are eligible to take two tuition-free courses:

• you are under 19 years (born after June 30, 1999) • you are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or

convention refugee • you attended a BC school in the 2017-2018 school year • you and your parent/guardian currently reside in BC• you have a BC Personal Education Number (PEN) • you have completed the prerequisite course or

obtained a Permission to Attend form from your school

Transfers & Refunds must be made by July 6.

Students missing 3 days will be withdrawn.

3D ANIMATIONDreaming of a career with PIXAR? Ever wonder how those awesome 3D animated movies like Shrek, Toy Story and Frozen are made? Spend the week learning how by modeling, animating and telling your own stories in 3D. Final projects are usually group projects with each student contributing a character and a scene.

$220 for all students

2D VIDEO GAME DESIGNLearn how to build an HTML5 game from the ground up using awesome free tools. This is a coding camp, so be prepared to challenge yourself and learn some new skills. The final project is a game you can take home on a USB stick or proudly share with friends online. No previous experience is required however Byte Camp’s Introduction to Coding is recommended.

$260 for all students

July 30 - August 3 9am-3pm Burnaby North Course #8500

BUILD AN APPLearn how to design, code, test and deploy your very own app! Use the GPS, accelerometer or anything else you can think of to build your own app from scratch. This is a coding camp, so be prepared to challenge yourself and learn some new skills. Use your own mobile devices to develop and test on, or use ours. No previous experience is required, however Byte Camp’s 2D Video Game Design is recommended.

Are you on your way to secondary school in September?Grade 7/8 Transition is designed to help students navigate the transition between elementary and secondary school. This course will touch on personal responsibility, skill building and relationships. Some objectives include building confidence, enhancing a positive attitude toward learning and engaging in the new curriculum’s Core Competencies.
