Kenneth Cole’s autumn/winter 13 runway presentation was his first appearance at New York Fashion Week for seven years, so it came as no surprise that he was eager to make a triumphant return to the runway, lending an edgy, urban finish to wearable staples. Not only did he reveal a collection which had a contemporary, utilitarian feel he also embraced the hype of social networking platforms and produced a show finale which reflected the digital era.

The show produced an innovative backdrop, with a video playing slogans such as ‘Yield to social networking’ with a surprising finale that saw models armed with their smart phones to capture images of themselves and the stylish audience which were then uploaded onto Instagram. To mark the designer’s first show after an extensive absence he also pledged that for every tweet featuring #KCRUNWAY he would donate $1 to amfAR, a leading organisation dedicated to supporting aids research.

His show incorporated a creative view point on user-generated media and insta-blogging reflecting his manifestation of ideas to develop in the industry. He also represented the idea that the intention and function of fashion week has changed and that people are consuming fashion in a totally different way. We can’t wait to see what the designer follows with for S/S 14.
